New movie Turtles sets

theLEGOmantheLEGOman Member Posts: 1,524
These were out instore today, the turtles look abit weird they have half the shell on their back and half behind their head.

The pictures at the top which I gather are how they will appear in the movie look a little more teenage steroid abusing ninja turtles.

Really not to my taste either.

I much prefer the previous sets they've done. But then again as an AFOL who loved the original TV series I guess I would for their original cartoon rooting. But as with all Lego, these are aimed at kids and so if they're in line with a new movie or series then that's the way it will go. Odd in a way though as it now means they have two separate Turtles lines which aren't really that conducive to intermixing?

Ah well at least it means I can save some money as I wont have to add them to my existing Turtles collection. I just hope the DB has two separate entries for them (not checked to see if it does already).

@Mojoest‌ think of the different lines of turtles like the Star Wars lines. Clone wars, vs. Original Trilogy. both are listed as Star wars, with sub categories available to isolate the ones your after. that is what I would expect to see with these.

Yes, these are in my local Walmart, creeping into the Star Wars section!

I've never been a TMNT fan, but the character designs don't honestly bother me as much as other people. Colors are nice, and I like some of the design considerations like the studs on the shells and the visor support on the heads. The sets themselves aren't bad either — the lair feels very much like a repurposed sewer. The only set I find underwhelming is #79116, which is a bit boring-looking compared to the other sets, which are more whimsical in nature.

Though I'm an old-school turtles fan, and not particularly fond of the new designs, these sets actually look more fun to me than the Nick versions. How funny is that? Is there anyplace to get more information on these? I don't suppose we know who designed them, do we?

I think those LEGO designer videos have spoiled me, ha ha.

Saw these in Sheffield Lego store on Saturday morning in the UK. I actually really like the sets, the turtle lair looks so much better. I think they're far more awesome than the other turtles sets - they're just so much more detailed.

So much this. I think the designs of the turtle figures in these sets are atrocious, but I like the sets a lot more than the Nick sets, but I LOVE the Nick figures. So confused.

The movie sets were at LEGOLAND California at the end of June. I agree that they look better than the Nick versions, but didn't give them a close look. They are listed in the database here.

The turtles sets themselves seem to get great parts and good colours, (more dark grey in the movie sets).

Its the turtles with the weird shells that go above the head, that and they are all different colour bodies as well, really weird.
