I dare to dream... Does anyone think the Mini mini poly could be given away with purchase of the larger MINI Cooper MK VII #10242? You know, like the balloon poly was for early VIP purchase of the Fairground mixer? Especially with the timing of the release of the instructions?
  • GoldJonoGoldJono Member Posts: 217
^i hope so. Although, I'm sure I'll have built several in different colours before then.

Yah. Didn't they do the same thing with the Sopwith Camel, as well?

^^ I think there could be a mini Mini Cooper building race, first to build it in the most colours but perhaps it's already over? ; )

My previous post was prior to looking at the PDF of the instructions, I just assumed I would need a part I don't have. I only have two of the windscreen piece so I may have to go out and buy a monster truck (#60055) or 4 for my Italian Job.

Oooh, just put those two ideas together, monster truck show with mini coopers all lined up to be jumped over or crushed!

I don't want to be a negative ninny but it doesn't in any way look like a mini. It's entirely possible that it can't be done better at that size but then I question if it should be done at all. Compared to the camper van, well it doesn't compare. I doubt anyone would be able to tell you what it was meant to be if they didn't already know.

I've posted it before but here's mine.

I must say that I like my Mini Cooper's body work over Lego's design; however the windows and roof are better on Lego's model.

Yeah I am not really feeling it either. Also this one does not appear to have any Mini stickers like the little VW Van did which diminishes the appeal of it being branded. I do like free promos though so I will probably end up with one.

The only think I don't like about it is the curved roof. To me they should have used 2 of 2x4 white tile instead. That would have looked better.

Oh and Adz, I almost hate to say this, but your mini cooper design looks even less like the real thing than the Lego version.

^ I am not sure how saying "meh, not for me" at a particular set is either embarrassing or helping Lego on its way to the bank.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
I think it's entirely appropriate in this thread for people to critique the design. And it's entirely appropriate for you to make counterpoints or choose to ignore the comments

Your Complaining about others completely appropriate commentary on the design is however rather nauseating, but not unexpected of course

I think "(yet another) small car" fits better than mini.

Jeez. It's a free promo. Some of you guys are embarrassing to the hobby with your complaining. No wonder Lego doesn't want to give us any more discounts on exclusives. They laugh at you all the way to the bank.

Well, I doubt your statement is any less embarrassing than the complaining....

Shame this doesn't fit a fig, but it's still awesome. I like the use of studded plates where the real thing has those cylinder shapes alongside the hood/bonnet. It subtly suggests a differently-shaped surface without exaggerating it.

Why are the mudguards black? Dark green would have been an awesome new color.

Probably not a big enough budget to introduce a recolored element solely for this set. Keep in mind that introducing a new element, even a recolor, often means having to take another element out of production.

Ok, I get it now, Mathew made a statement that was removed. I had no idea what the hell you guys were talking about for a bit there.

Yes, it is embarrassing considering that it's going to be a FREE polybag with the new mini. Is it as nice as the VW poly? Not from what I can see. But it's FREE! With purchase of course. You'll probably be able to flip it for $20 if you don't want it.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
I can't see that going for $20. Without mini branding it is nothing.
  • bobabricksbobabricks Member Posts: 1,842
@Aanchir I think if you modified it a bit you could fit a fig in there.

I cannot wait for the full size Mini (that sounds strange) to come out in the US, but ofc we have to wait until August :/

This might be my first build-in-a-bag :)

I think I ran over one of those with my truck on the way to work the other day. Either that or an empty beer can with wheels.

that it is 'free' makes no difference to the fact it does not bear even the slightest resemblance to the real life car (though the full size version isn't much better)

i paid over the odds on ebay to get the camper van polybag because i thought it would look superb displayed next to the full size version - i may buy the large mini because it looks an interesting build but certainly won't worry about whether i get this polybag as well

and to my mind there is only one embarrassing contributor to this thread

Man calm down. The larger model definitely does look like the classic Mini.

No the top really doesn't, at least from the photos. The bottom half though is an excellent representation.

Yes, they may have been able to do the Mini Traveller better

  • scrumperscrumper Member Posts: 317
They may have been able to do it better but I don't think it's as iconic and everyone would be saying 'Why didn't they do the mini cooper?'.
  • DadDad Member Posts: 816
Agree with you totally! Was there only me saying why didn't they do the Cooper S ??

I predicted they'd do this ever since word broke that Lego was making a Mini Cooper.

It looks more like a Land Rover than a Mini. I agree with everyone else, this doesn't represent the full-size model like the mine VW bus did.

Then remove the roof. It's Lego.

To be honest, although the model is far from perfect, I am happy just to be getting a free polybag of any sort.

I will inevitably display it beside the larger scale model (which I think looks brilliant) and so it will be clear what it is supposed to be, despite the fact that this might not be clear if one were to display the model independent of the larger set.
