Titling of Marketplace threads

MatthewMatthew Administrator Posts: 3,714
edited May 2016 in Marketplace
In order to make the marketplace easier to browse, going forward please ensure that any threads posted to the marketplace include in the title the country where you are located and ideally, the countries which you will ship to in the message body.

The staff reserve the right to delete any marketplace discussions that do not include your country in the title.

Thank you for your co-operation.

@Matthew‌ - For some clarification, if I live in the US and want to ship worldwide, is it (US)(WW)? Or something else?
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
What if you will ship internationally but only to some countries? Would that be (UK)(Ger, Fra, Neth, Bel, US, Can, Aus) or shall we put international and then disappoint those from other countries when they waste a click?

There's no set layout that you need to follow, just as long as you indicate where you are based and then ideally ideally where you will ship to.

^^ That would be fine, or (US - shipping worldwide) or any other variation.

^ Either list the countries or something like (UK - postage to selected countries). That isn't really a new problem, there isn't currently an easy way of communicating that.

The main issue is threads that have no mention at all of country in the title (or sometimes in the body of the post).

I agree the info should be somewhere, but titles may get a little long if we need to list all countries we will ship to, if not completely worldwide.

I assume we will get a chance to amend rather than just deleted if a mistake is made, as sometimes marketplace posts can take a while to write.

This isn't designed to penalise regular sellers who have just made a mistake in listing the countries they ship to.

As I said, the main concern is not posting your location in the title, I've changed the wording to reflect this.

Threads won't be removed for not including where you will ship to. If a thread is missing the country in the title it will be hidden from view, but can be retrieved by sending a PM to a staff member.

Can I suggest the user's home country, (logged in their profile) be automatically added to the title when creating a new Marketplace thread? If the user moves about, it wouldn't take them long to modify their profile details. Just an idea.

Can it be set up so a username has a flag of their home nation displayed next to their name? Might be an automatic solution.

^That would work... if it fits in the Vanilla Forums format :/

Lots of people (including you @Legoboy :oD) don't have their country listed on their forum profile.
  • LegoboyLegoboy Member Posts: 8,825
In which case they wouldn't be able to create a Marketplace thread until it was added. ;o)

Strange that mine isn't there though. It definitely has been in the past and I don't recall removing it.

Probably confusing it for @flump‌'s profile page, you two always seemed pretty close. I'm still waiting for the merger.

When does this start to be implemented? There is already one new thread breaking the rule.

I can actually two threads that need amending or removing ...

when does the thread of shame start for those who fail to fill out their profiles/market place /brag or the like threads ? or even better link it to facebook and post it to the world pointing out they have been very naughty boys ..or girls ?

or how about ( controversial) members send a pm to the poster who has committed the heinous offence and kindly ask them to edit the opening title ? nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition

There is no point informing them when they cannot edit it anyway.

^ Other than the next time they create a thread they're more likely to conform to the required format.

For marketplace threads, that would be a good idea but not for more general threads. They probably cannot allow just some threads to be user modified.
  • jon_kjon_k Member Posts: 237
well as the latest instruction is for market place .. so let the user edit the whole of their post .. easy peasy lemon squeezy
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
I may be wrong, but I think there is one setting for the whole board. So if you can edit marketplace threads, then you can edit everything.

This has nothing to do with the topic really but it has been several days now since @CCC's icon changed from the green and brown face to this blue and yellow one and I still get confused by it. Now back to your regularly scheduled programing.

Oh yeah, never noticed @CCC changed the face. It looks kind of evil...

I changed my email address and they gave me a new avatar.
