I've quite a few sets and not enough room so a few sets need to go. Due to time constraints collection only, pick up from Liverpool or Sheffield.

And this is why I don't like to make offers (and I didn't make any in this case anyway).

You wanted offers, people offered. Not really fair to then call those offers crazy just because they were below what you would like.

I know that a lot of Lego is worth a fair bit; I never like to make offers because despite the fact that we do collect it in our house, we still have money restrictions and we have agreed that we only buy sets at either the RRP if it's something we are absolutely drooling to have or otherwise, under the RRP.

We do not buy for resale, it's only for ourselves, and maybe one day we will be well off enough to buy whatever we want, independent of the price tag.

At the moment though, if there is a set that we missed when was on sale and we still want it then we still stick to our rule:

absolutely want to have? look for it at RRP max;
it's nice and would like it, but if doesn't happen, doesn't happen? Then somewhat below RRP.

We are fine with not being able to buy it in the end, because as I say, we do like to collect Lego, to do displays, etc, but we do have financial restrictions, so I will only pay what the Lego is worth for us. I don't intend to make a buck out of any set so it doesn't matter to me if the set is worth $$$ or $$$$$$. We get it because we like the look of it and not because is worth X.

I already didn't like making offers because I don't want to offend anyone, so prefer to see the prices and see, but your comment has put me off of EVER making any offer to anyone.

I think promo polys would be one of the few exceptions.

Attention, I don't criticize anyone for paying well over the RRP. If you can afford it and really want it, then by all means go for it.

In our case, there are 3 of us in the house who like to collect Lego. Only two of us work though :p So there had to be some boundaries put in place. We all agree that we won't ever sell any of the Lego that we get for us (sometimes we get a couple extra when on sale in store for trading but that's that); and we all agreed in keeping it under the RRP, with the odd exception or other that we are really keen in getting it and can only find it at RRP.

We are all aware that some sets we won't ever get, but hey. Such is life. My kid has had a long term interest on the Taj Mahal. For years (he's 10 now, he fell in love with it about 5 years ago) he has asked us to take him there and he wants any toys, magazines, books, postcards, anything, featuring the Taj Mahal. Loving Lego as he does, of course he would like to have the Lego Taj Mahal! But he's aware that won't happen. At least not now. Maybe when he grows up and gets a job. But he does accept the rule that, we didn't buy it when it was on sale (bad luck had it that we had some issues by then preventing any Lego purchase) we will unlikely get it now. Such is life!
