^^ Oh dear. Is that Google translate at work again? Because it is absolute gibberish!!
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
    It is :-)

Well, at least the rubbishness of Google translate keeps me and my friends in a job :)

WRT the difference in RRP / [email protected] price I discuss here: http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/1944/price-differences-on-sh-be-vs-de-vs-fr

Perhaps the Bargain Watch tool could be improved if we could select the [email protected] to compare with, because while these prices are a big deal to the French, they're less so for Germans, Belgians,... if the one example I posted above is anything to go by.

Of course, then you'd also need to be able to select a preferred preferred currency. ;-)

I wouldn't go as far as to include shipping prices depending on what country you're in, since that would make things a lot more complicated. For instance: a small set on Amazon.co.uk/Amazon.de would lose most/all of its price reduction when you add shipping costs, whereas I would simply combine that set with another small set or a larger one so the price would be above €25 which would make shipping free.

Although I wouldn't mind if you'd include VAT rates: when I ordered from Amazon.de, each of the items got slightly more expensive because Germany has 20% VAT and Belgium has 21% VAT, and Amazon applies the VAT for the country you're sending it to.
  • MrBerreMrBerre Member Posts: 246
Ooh, forgot another feature WRT the Bargain Watch: an "is this the cheapest?" button which would compare the price of the item on the other Amazon sites (or only on those a user wants to see, e.g. I don't care about Amazon US). Or perhaps make it part of the page?

@Atkinsar, yeah i was referring to the Brickset mobile site, not the RSS feed. It seems like every news post shows up there even though I have selected which ones not to view in my profile.

It's not a huge deal, just makes for a little bit more scrolling, but would be nice to have fixed.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
MrBerre, watch this space. In a few days that facility will be available.

Re, Brickset mobile, I do need to make a few changes to that to get the news to behave like it does on the main site now, and I'll do so soon.

^^^ Some of this stuff has been rolled out. LMKWYT...
  • atkinsaratkinsar Member Posts: 4,258
I'm certain this has been requested before, but it would be really useful to look at a person's wanted list and be able to see which ones you own/want.

From a news comment I posted:

One thing I find myself doing now is going to the UK Amazon bargain watch page and then filtering to show only those on my wanted list. Then I want to see which EU Amazon site may have the set cheaper than the UK, to do so currently I have to click on the image, then 'more details', then the buy tab. It would be nice to provide a quicker way to get to this information from the bargain watch page.

I've noticed this problem since I started using Brickset, quite a few years back, and never really was in a position to report it. But, you've given us this 'official' outlet now, so I'm going to report it. It happens when you click on any of the images on the site that then zoom in to see a bigger view. Know what I mean? I can only ever get 1 'zoom' successfully, then it'll just not work. If you check out the .png I attached to see what I'm on about. Anyone else have this issue?

@Huw - changes looking good! Thank you for continuous improvements!

@atkinsar - ^^^ that is one of the changes that took place - can be found on a users profile page now (if that's what your asking about).

^ really, I'm not seeing it. So I can see someone's wanted list, but it doesn't tell me 'I Own' any of those sets so I can quickly see what I've got that they may want.

Oh, and blimey do you want a lot of sets!
  • LegogeekLegogeek Member Posts: 714
    ^ I see what you're asking for now - sort of a comparrison column (you/own vs them/want).

Yeah, I may never get many of them, but I like to at least have them listed for my own reference.... just in case. ;oD

@atkinsar, I noted your comment and that is something that I plan to do, and soon.

@Eric, never seen that or had it reported before. What OS/browser are you using?

@atkinsar, comparing wanted/owned lists. I don't think it'll be easy to do in the current wanted lists as there's some tricky jiggery-pokery going on, but I can probably rustle up a 'show me sets I own that xxx wants' or something like that. Let me have a think...
  • crzypaintercrzypainter Member Posts: 8
@Huw, it seems my news viewing preferences are now reflected at the mobile site, thank you! Every update just makes the best Lego site better.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
    Yes, just got that sorted...
  • EricEric Member Posts: 376
^^ Okay, It's been doing it for years, and I always had to refresh the page every time I wanted to see the next photo. That got tiresome after the third refresh. I'm currently using Win7/Chrome, and if I remember correctly it did it on my Vista/Chrome machine as well. And I think maybe Vista/Firefox, but I can't be sure.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
Win7/Chrome working perfectly here, I'm afraid. It uses the highslide JS library, which is well established and pretty robust so I'd be surprised if there were problems with it in Chrome.
  • bluemoosebluemoose Member Posts: 1,716
^^ I currently use W7/chrome on my main machine and have never seen this behaviour ... also never seen it with any other combination of OS & browser (and I must have used pretty much every possible combination & permutation over the last few years!), so I suspect it's a local issue?
  • EricEric Member Posts: 376
I'm thinking it probably is as well, though it's done it on various machines, which makes me think it's probably a network issue, but I wouldn't have any clue as to where to start looking, so I'll just put up with it. :/

    Fine for me too.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
Someone else reported that problem, but it's fine for me. Matthew, have you disabled loads of news categories in your preferences?
  • atkinsaratkinsar Member Posts: 4,258
@Huw, thanks for implementing the link to other amazon prices from the bargain watch page so quickly, it's very useful.
  • MatthewMatthew Administrator Posts: 3,714
^^ None - I'm seeing it all (or not seeing it) on that machine (running XP). On my Laptop running 7 where I've disabled some it's fine....
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
    ^^ NP :-)
  • georgebjonesgeorgebjones Member Posts: 224
I have had the problem with the image thing, where you get to zoom on it, then you don't get to zoom again. Refreshing the page works. I use primarily Chrome. I have noticed this at work, and at home, and on my laptop. I have never understood it, but just wanted to back up @eric that it is happening with me, too.
  • georgebjonesgeorgebjones Member Posts: 224
Also, would it be possible to add a field for Target's DPCI number. I know this may be a little specialized, but the link that @sidersdd provided http://sites.target.com/site/en/spot/mobile_fiats.jsp?title=fiats&asin=&dpci=204-00-0073 has been getting a ton of usage from me! Maybe a facility to add it like the barcode, or on the same screen. I know we can't really scan the DPCI, but type it in? Just a thought. I realize that this will ultimately make it easier for everyone else, therefore more difficult for me to find those bargains, but the needs of the many, right?
  • MrBerreMrBerre Member Posts: 246
Is there a way to search by amount of bricks? That would make it easier to identify sets that are basically a collection of bricks. I saw an older set with (I think) 750 bricks today (might have been 705), but I cannot find it here (I didn't write down the set number).
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
^ bricks specifically, or just parts in general?

Regardless, you can't do either :-(
  • MrBerreMrBerre Member Posts: 246
^ Parts in general. But I noticed I can do such searches at peeron.com, so nevermind.
  • georgebjonesgeorgebjones Member Posts: 224
@Huw, a little more info on the image issue. I think it definitely is a Chrome issue. I (shudder) opened brickset in IE, and was able to zoom in out and click on as many images as I wanted without any issue, but opened the site in Chrome, and I click on an image, it will zoom once, but then not zoom again, just zooms out and displays the set number and a more details link. Hope this helps. I know more info is always better.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
http://www.highslide.com/ claims it 'works' in Chrome and I've not come across any issues personally, so I'm at a loss still :(
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
@MrBerre, I've made some tweaks to the display of prices. On the set details Buy tab and Amazon bargain watch pop-up window it now shows the equivalent price in your local currency, so you can see how much you're being ripped off, or not if you're in the USA...
  • atkinsaratkinsar Member Posts: 4,258
@Huw, have you got rid of the RSS feed for news comments?
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
    edited November 2011
No, still there, but possibly not in the sidebar list which I tidied up recently, although it still needs some work...

    http://www.brickset.com/rss/comments/

IE9 and Outlook don't seems to display it properly, despite me making sure the titles are unique for each article.
  • stagusstagus Member Posts: 256
Don't think I have seen it on here but how about an Android app? You could carry your collection everywhere!
  • MrBerreMrBerre Member Posts: 246
@Huw Yes, just noticed it. And the cute little country flags. ;-)

Astonishing to see that a set like http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=3843-1 is 30% above RRP in the US and still cheaper than the lowest the set has ever been on Amazon UK/DE/FR/IT/ES...
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
I'm not convinced that the US RRP is correct for that set, looks like its final selling price at LEGOshop.com. I'll look into it...
  • georgebjonesgeorgebjones Member Posts: 224
^The RRP for that set was $29.99, recently Target started selling it for $9.99, and now it looks like that is the price at shop.lego.com
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
@stagus, there are iOS apps available and several people have API keys for creating Android apps but I haven't seen evidence of any yet.
  • MrBerreMrBerre Member Posts: 246
Looking at graphs like this: http://www.brickset.com/ajax/amazonGraph.aspx?Country=DE&ASIN=B003A2JBPA&aid=hs I wonder if it wouldn't be better to remove the entries where the price was zero (I'm guessing this is when the item wasn't available?). Because now it is kind of ruining the "scale" of the graph -- I suspect that when the zero entries are removed the graph only shows the prices between the lowest it's ever been and the highest.
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,087
^ Good point, I noticed that issue myself yesterday. That has occured where there's been a failure during import and it will be easy to resolve it, so I'll get it sorted.
  • princedravenprincedraven Member Posts: 3,764
Huw, can I ask what the point is in having: Right now on eBay.co.uk on the front page??

I really am not sure what benefit this is to anyone, having 4 ebay auctions, from, what, 140,000 currently Lego auctions. Is it just to add some eye candy or something? If so I think a link to your 'Pick of the Week' style reviews would be a better use of the space.

You probably won't appreciate the answer but at least you'll know :-)

At this time of year the eBay Partner Network run a promotion to encourage affiliates to drive more traffic to them and offer a bonus if you increase it by a certain level compared to August.

Currently around 10% of the total revenue from eBay is being generated by that area so it's not performing particularly well but it's not a total waste of space, from my POV, anyway.

There are a few tweaks I intend to make in an attempt to improve what's shown there, but I'm afraid it will stay there until Christmas.

I intend to rework the home page, maybe using tabs in certain areas to maximise what's available from it, although I won't be making any significant changes until the new year because traffic levels have starting soaring and stability and availability are desirable. When I do it almost certainly won't be where it is now.
