I think LIT meant it is highly unlikely they won't have thought of it.  They obviously have chosen not to produce a toy shop up to now - they have every other type of shop in fact (well nearly), and have made them in non-modular size.  It's a nice enough building but I like my ideas set to be different (not just a new version of something like a modular), although new ideas are thin on the ground generally and don't get many votes because they don't have a licence with a cult of followers.

Your model is nice,  but I really doubt it has any chance of getting made.  I consider it highly unlikely that Lego would ever make an Ideas Modular in the first place and secondly that the concept of doing a toy shop would not have occurred to them. Good luck with it nonetheless.
Thank you! I was actually HOPING it would be a concept that Lego had not thought of yet. I built a Modular Bank and uploaded it, just to find out that Lego was producing one next year.
The bank was announced before you even uploaded yours. I also cannot see them doing a modular through ideas. Lego knows how to design them, and what to produce. They don't need telling.
  • Hey, I'll check it out and give you some feedback.  I have a project on there, too:

    It's a Ford F-150, larger scale model.

Here is my project of a new set of Fokker Dr.I, one of the most famous German fighter aiplane of the WWI.

As you can see, I have proposed a color scheme similar to the official set #10024, but also a new color scheme to have a totally different plane (see updates).

Both are shown with a pedestal, a bit like UCS sets.

Here is the link to the project: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/118389

To go with the official Sopwith Camel set #10226 and with my own project of Fokker Dr.I (see above), here is my project for a Royal Aircraft Factory SE.5a, one of the most famous British fighter airplane of the WW1:

It is shown on a UCS-like pedestal.

When I started my  project, I wanted to have Coulson car Lola able to convert to flight mode. In a larger scale model, the task wouldn't be too difficult, but a Microfighter scale vehicle means that a lot of parts that could help to achieve this are too large or impractical for the task. I did come up with a possible option some time ago in Lego Digital Designer, but not having the parts in real life, I didn't want to commit to using these parts until I could perform a physical test of the design. A few days ago I noticed that we got the last require parts in a set we recently bought, so I quickly assembled the parts. I can finally announce that Lola has been redesigned & now has flight mode.

If you want honest feedback it looks like something a 7 year old would build. Very basic and rather uninspiring design of the towers with a slide.

How on earth did this get the announcement tag on the forum?

Yours is nice, although probably too similar to Atlantis and deep sea explorers to go anywhere.

I didn't think it was mine based on the slide and tower comment, but I was still confused, I didn't see anything matching that description.  I know most of mine probably won't make it but I like doing it anyway.

I have recently designed a new style of Lego modular castle. It used small 4x8 and 8x8 modules that connect in all 3 dimensions so that you can quickly and easily build a tower, wall, keep or Disney still castle.

If you want to see a video demonstration of the system go to this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6M6T5OBxByM

^^I might be missing something but isn't lego already a modular castle?  Having bigger modules is just making it possible for less combinations.

There is quite a bit of hubbub about this idea and it's quickly gaining support: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/121896 Apologies if I'm late to the party but I see no reason why Lego shouldn't make disabled characters.

There is no reason not to make disabled characters, but I see a good reason not to make that set. It's crap. Minifig heavy with a poly bag build. The wheel chairs aren't even realistic.  I also doubt they'd make Santa disabled.

I only ever vote for something I would buy.  It would be a struggle to bring myself to purchase this even though I avidly collect ideas sets.  It's exactly what I hate about the concept, little to no originality, little to no building skill and it's scoring loads more votes than some fantastic ideas.
However, if it were to make it to 10,000 and secured a cmf leg piece that was actually a decent wheelchair, well that would be pretty awesome.

Disability pride / positive affirmation / politically correct votes. Projects like this often score well (even if rubbish) as they get many votes from people supporting a cause.

I`d never buy such a set. I don`t need a toy to bring me down. I have plenty in my life for that.
I buy/build lego for the exact opposite reason. That idea is crap.
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,679
I wonder what is that cause, I mean how a lego set is meaningful to their cause.
  • rdflegordflego Member Posts: 324
The idea is an odd construction and Minifigs.me certainly have a nicer builds, but the concept behind it does makes sense. I understand that a similar public pressure for 'disability pride' happened with Playmobil and they will now produce appropriate sets. Thought it might be interesting.
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
@rdflego, the problem is the set is not well designed at all & technically breaks the rules for Lego Ideas, its effectively a Minifigures set. If it gets 10,000 supporters, even though it breaks the rules, TLG will potentially have to give it a green light in review to avoid negative publicity on 'discriminating against people with disabilities.' The problem then becomes an Ideas set that won't sell big numbers. It's the typical social justice thing, demand a company produce said product to prove they don't have issue with said group, but most of those demanding won't actually buy the product, creating a glut of said item that no-one really wanted, just so some social justice keyboard warriors can have warm & fuzzy feelings. After the buzz dies down, TLG reviews the Lego Ideas program & adds another black mark against its name, one strike closer to seeing it shut down.

^true, but lego could green light it then completely redesign. Get rid of Christmas theme and pants and awkward looking wheelchairs and we end up with a mini hospital scene or something. Which I'm not complaining about. But then it would be annoying to see the person paid to be honest.

Yes, but the original submission at least demonstrated widespread interest, effectively providing market research etc etc. Getting word out about a Lego Ideas project is a very different skill from making a great project in the first place--as we know, sadly, from all the great submissions that never make it to 1K votes.

I think TLG has a very clear idea of what they're doing with Ideas, and given it's currently somewhat backed-up I doubt they're going to rush any set they choose to green-light into a premature release. Nor do I think they're going to back off the program, given three of the "winners" have now turned into multi-set themes or mini-themes.

If they thought there was a market for disabled / wheelchair minifigures, and there was significant redesign, they'd just put them in regular sets. Of course, that need not be a hospital, as disabled people do exist outside of hospitals.

After travelling with someone in a wheelchair on a train a couple of weeks ago, maybe they should put one in the next train set, to highlight the difficulty in travelling if disabled. That said, even able bodied minifigs have difficulty travelling on narrow Lego trains :-)

It's definitely an interesting product concept, but I would much prefer a non-fantasy set with disabled characters (we've already had disabled characters in fantasy/sci-fi themes, like Cyrus Borg from LEGO Ninjago). The Christmas theme also limits its potential by locking it into a particular release schedule. The inclusion of Santa Claus, a snowman, and a Christmas tree also potentially puts it in competition with the LEGO City Advent Calendar, since those are fairly typical contents for that set every year.

Other than the wheelchairs, this set has very little unique going for it, and I can't help but think there might have been a much better way to create a disability-positive set for LEGO Ideas. This one is not flawless (I think the main wheelchair is too big for my liking), but I think it's better than the project above in that it includes several types of wheelchairs in a realistic context.
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,679
who cares about disability-positive sets? the point of lego is to play not to spread politically correct messages.

Why do we play, though? We play because it makes us happy. And many kids who are physically disabled will be VERY happy if they feel like they can play out their own lives and their own adventures, instead of feeling like their disability has no place in a LEGO play scenario.

Would you feel good if EVERY minifigure were in a wheelchair? Then how do think disabled people feel about NO minifigures being in wheelchairs? Nobody wants to feel like the toys they play with reflect a world that has no place for people like them.

Sometimes the reason something is "politically correct" is because it's actually correct in general. Disabled representation is one of those things.

Plus, one of the main purposes of LEGO Ideas is to generate product ideas that are different than the normal LEGO product offerings, and a wheelchair is most definitely something LEGO has never done before outside of Duplo. So a project that attempts to fill that void is a perfectly reasonable use of the LEGO Ideas platform.

^Yeah, sometimes things are just 'realistic,' not 'politically correct.' The latter expression gets used (generally as part of a complaint) when something is seen to be included solely to appease some group or another. But people with physical disabilities are just as real as anyone else, and it shouldn't be a stretch for minifigures to reflect that.

I'm not disabled, though I guess it depends on the mentality of the person, if I were a disabled kid, I doubt I would have more desire for a disabled minifigs than a ninja or alien.

Now, I don't think lego has to make a set to raise awareness about disability, but there is already a city theme with an under exploited hospital theme, there it would fit. A lego ideas set specifically about disability seems pushing it a bit much

I guess the lesson here is that the easiest way to get the required votes for a project is to tap into none-Lego subject  or cause to get outsiders involved. Golden girls, BBT, etc. The actual build isn't nearly as important as the theme. I need to put the finishing touches on my Captain Planet set. It should garner 10K votes lickity-split from the enviro crowd!
  • VorpalRyuVorpalRyu Member Posts: 2,318
@ecmo47, wish it were true, but having a project connected to an IP, isn't a guaranteed win, even with a well designed set. In just over six months my project has 301 supporters, twitter has been next to useless, FB has done almost nothing, my IP's fan sites have practically ignored all attempts by me to contact them about it & Lego related sites have been even worse, some even saying they don't give press to Lego Ideas projects (when there is clear evidence to the contrary). Even offering people a chance to vote for which ones will be vehicles number five & six in the set hasn't done much of anything. But good luck with your project, maybe you'll get Ellen or Oprah's attention & get the 10,000 in under a month.

@VorpalRyu - I think there's a difference between IPs that LEGO already has and those it doesn't/never has had... Your Marvel Microfighters are great, but it won't rally non-FOL Marvel fans, because there is already a lot of Marvel LEGO out there...something like BBT or Golden Girl gets the attention of fans of the shows who might not have much of an interest in LEGO normally because there isn't anything like that on the market already.
I wonder if you might also have trouble with the Mighty Micros coming out...in my opinion they don't look anywhere near as good as the micro fighters but it seems LEGO logic to say 'conflicts with existing product'
  • xiahnaxiahna Member Posts: 156

@Shib I can see where you're coming from, however I can also see (and understand) @VorpalRyu s frustration. It seems like there is no magic formula to follow or any garenteed way to get to 10,000. And established line in Lego seems to have just as much luck (Or as much trouble) in getting to 10,000 as anything else. For example... Knight Rider- seen a few sets, have voted for them when I've seen them. Have any of those gotten into the review? Also there is a Monkey Island set that has 9 days to go, and they got a number of 411.
Then look at LOTR, there have been a few (massive) ones that have reached review. Ghost Busters is another one.
(Also Just putting my opinion on the Marvel thing, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is different to Marvel Superheroes. and the micro fighter format makes it different again.)

Not that I am cleaver enough by 1/2 to actually get a set onto Ideas, but the amount of effort it takes trying to get noticed by people, and getting people in general to take notice of HOW ideas works, is a major put off. Major Kudos to everyone that has had a go at it though!!!

Don't get me wrong, I agree there isn't an easy answer, it's often down to a lot of hard work and canvassing by creators, but those that do that with new IPs generally will get more traction than existing/past IPs for the reasons I mentioned above.

E.g. Golden Girls gets shared by people involved with the show on social media - non fold sign up to vote for a unique bit of march
Vorpalryu's micro fighters get shared by people involved with the show - Marvel fans look at all the other Marvel LEGO already out there and decide that there's no point signing up to vote as there are a lot of  other options.

Which is probably just as well. If there was a guaranteed way of getting 10000 votes, then it would be pointless as every project would be getting 10000 votes.

It's probably because Knight Rider is not that big a deal these days. Neither is Monkey Island. Sure, there are still fans of both, but not enough of them that overlap with / want to join the lego community.
