A secondhand toy shop just down the road from me had several 2004 sets for sale, Bought an almost complete #4886 and managed to build the house with what was in there. Looks really good

Last night I was doing some work for @joel4motion‌ when I got a bit bored of looking for lego in the Aberdeen area. I looked near me and found 2 lots at a tiny price. One was a boxed vintage pirates set with 3-4 smaller sets for £10 and the other was 3-4 vintage castle lego sets also for £10. The seller was happy to sell to me and was going to hold the lego til I passed her. Then I get an email this morning saying she had sold to somebody else...
I could have made a profit of around £150 on those sets... This is the problem with Gumtree, if you cant pick up the day the seller says so, you lose out.

^ you posted in the wrong section. Stuff you are given for free by a family member is not really something to brag about.... It should be about buying something cheap.

Stuff you didn't even buy? :oD

Not really a "find", but... I work for Tesco and this week we got 20% staff discount instead of the normal 10%. Stacked nicely with the 1000 extra clubcard points...
Combined with some products on sale, I worked out I got 46% off RRP across my multiple orders. :)

Not a massive find but picked up a 70804 - Ice Cream Machine for £15 at the weekend, was pretty pleased when I saw one on a stall at LFCC at that price...got a few other bits from the same guy but that was the gem of the purchase for me.

Ah, they don't do much like that up north.
  • ShibShib Member Posts: 5,478
^You'd be surprised when you look into it - I can think of at least four based in the north (Manchester and upwards at least) without googling for them and a couple more in the midlands.
I often forget that the UK comic conventions are generally less known that the US ones when typing abbreviations.

They had one in Leeds at the Armouries I believe, but that's the only one nearby, they don't quite get the big names like SDCC etc do though.

    No cool LEGO exclusives either.

I got two Ninjago Ninjacopters for $20 each. If we were talking about my GREATEST find, I'd say...
I got a 6211 Star Destroyer, a 6205 V-Wing Starfighter, a 6250 Clone Scout Walker and several battle packs for only $20 collectively. Ahh, how I love thrift stores. At the same store several months later, I also bought a 2010 8095 General Grievous' Starfighter (Which had just come out at the time and was usually priced at 49.99) for the low low price of...
    $3.00.
Haha, how's THAT for some bragging? X)

Same goes for the London ones. The amount of Lego resellers at LFCC this weekend though shows that TLG really should consider it, there was definitely good money in it for them!

^Thought bubble is the really big one in Leeds, never been but I believe thats quite an artsy one, more on the graphic design elements etc than the pop culture.

Showmaster (who run London Film and Comic Con) run a convention in Sheffield in August - which I mention because that's closer to Leeds than I am to any of the London conventions.

That's the one, they have events over a week or so with films and stuff, free art classes etc.

Then they have the Comic Con part over 2 days.

Got my first CL lot in several months today. Woman originally posted a vague ad with no pictures, I emailed saying that I would be interested in seeing pictures once she got them. Email from her this morning saying she has added pictures to the ad and is selling the "bags" for $3 and bags of minifigs for $5. I find the ad and she's bagged up the entire collection in ziplocs, but I notice some boat hulls and say I'll take the lot.

While I'm waiting to hear back I spot the yellow chassis piece from #10133 Burlington Northern Locomotive...

Pick up the entire lot, it's got about 100 SW, HP, and Indiana Jones minifigs, with maybe another 100 various minifigs, as well as:

    #4768 Durmstrang ship
    #7018 Vikings vs. Midguard Serpent
    #6210 Jabba's Sail Barge

As well as several other larger SW sets. Heck, there was even a LBG door for the Cafe Corner I bricklinked (I bought a black door because there was no way I was paying THAT much!) I believe it was from the Krusty Krab.

But the coolest part was when I broke into some baggies of blue and white pieces. Finally I found a blue brick with a ripped up "Boeing" sticker remaining on it. So it looks like there is most of a #10177 Boeing Dreamliner in there!

All in all about 35 pounds, costing $215 and about an hour drive. Not bad for a Monday morning!

Scored a bunch of NISB sets for 50% off retail from a reseller:

    Imperial Hotel
    Trevi Fountain
    Leaning Tower of Pisa
    AT-AP
    Sopwith Camel

Total local RRP value: $540 AUD
    Paid: $270 AUD

And this wasn't someone just trying to shift some sets they found in the attic 2 hours before the moving van showed up, this was an actual reseller who I'd bought stuff off (also for around 40-50% off) two years ago. Honestly I'd really love to know her source. Just seems impossible to sell NISB lego at 50% off retail and still squeeze a margin without robbing a lego store.
  • DadsAFOLDadsAFOL Member Posts: 617
They either sold them at a loss (maybe due to cash flow needs) or they are grey market products. There is no legitimate source at that price.
  • ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
I answered an ad for a #10210 (Imperial Flagship). While in negotiations, the guy said that he had a few other set if I was interested. Those sets turned out to be #3451 (Sopwith Camel), #4504 (MF), #7194 (Yoda), #10018 (Darth Maul), #10019 (Blockade Runner), #10024 (Red Baron), #10175 (Vaders TIE), annnnnnd #10179! The funny thing was that while arranging for pick-up, I gave the guy my phone number and he discovered that he already had it from a Lego deal we did over a year ago.

Hello, I'm a new member. Joined because I was searching for instructions to go with a recent find:

A friend of mine rescued a load of 1970s lego from a skip and gave them to me for my 4 year old son...

Littl'un is very excited about the train, sadly it will only move forwards. The battery tender doesn't output any Voltage with the switch lever in the reverse position.

Has anyone been successful in dismantling one of these tenders to fix the switch contacts inside?

@Melchet If there aren't any replies here, you might have some luck on the Eurobricks Train Tech forum where I've seen several discussions on the 4.5v battery box tenders...

@Melchet Look at the bottom of the car on the inside, there are contacts down there that could be bent causing the problem. Very nice find by the way.

@melchet: The battery box is part #x488c01. You can buy one off Bricklink for about $35.00. Here's the link to those for sale. Lego also produced this in blue and red.

#76005-1 from Walmart - Last one in the store and it did not scan any price because it had been purged from inventory. Clerk shrugged and sold it to me for $5.41 with tax.

Thats a great find! I really wish I had a second one of those to close off the back...and maybe extend the pavement (sidewalk) further off the front of the building.

On my way back home from town there is a small street that has about five or six charity shops in it. Now and again I bother to have a look in them and last week I did just that. They mostly have the same old stuff in their toy sections, you know, jigsaw puzzles and (possibly) incomplete board games. Well, while I was looking at said board games what should I spot but a Lego Toy Story box. I didn't even notice it at first, thinking it was itself a board game. Well, I pulled it off the shelf and discovered it was a #7592 - Construct-a-Buzz. Not only that, it was still sealed, with a price tag of £2. Well obviously I snapped it up, but feeling a little guilty I had to put another couple of quid in the money box on the counter. It seemed unfair for it to cost less than a Mixel. Still, a great find.
I actually put it up on the marketplace forum because we have no other Toy Story sets, but I didn't hide it very well and on Sunday my 9 year old spotted it in my bedroom and now Buzz is proudly displayed on her shelf.
Ah well, easy come, easy go.

Just hit up my local walmart, just checking to see if they had the summer star wars stuff yet (they did not) but found 75020 Jabba's Sail Barge was on clearance 50% off so instead of the $120 they normally price for, i walked out with it at $60 (plus taxes of course) they also have rancor pit at 30, Headhunter at 17, and Republic gunship at 60. Lord of the rings had the pirates ship at 50. and several more sets i didn't take a mental note of but some were DC and some were City theme.

Not that it will matter but where are you located? I've been keeping an eye out for the pirate ship for $50. There is one store in my area that still has stock but at $74.

Thanks. Were they still with the other Lego sets or were they relegated to the clearance aisle? I ask because the local Walmart had five or six of them at $74 and then suddenly they all went poof from the Walmart mobile website. I thought maybe they moved them to the clearance aisle and removed them from the system (and perhaps discounted them more). I'd drive over to check it out, but this particular Walmart is out of the way.
  • GallardoLUGallardoLU Member Posts: 644
they were no longer in the usual Lego spots. but still in the same aisle, just has a small section at the end (past the knock off junk) our store is a smaller one so the layout might not match yours.

I trolled a WM this morning in a new town and found a lonely A-wing which scanned for $5.00!

This has been a little while back, but I figured it was still worth sharing. I stopped at my local Goodwill, and while looking in board game section, came across a 3840-1 Pirate's Code box. It was marked at $3.99, but when they scanned it at the register, I ended up getting it for under $3 out-the-door. I checked when I got home, and every piece was accounted for!

That's the only LEGO Goodwill find I've ever had up to this point.

wow, lego sets rarely get 50% off here in holland... (at least what I know of) but so far I think I've been quite succesfull on the second hand market, here are some of my findings: (you'll notice I am a classic space fan)

got the futuron monorail for 80 eu,

the aero module, orion II and space patroller combined for 15 euro,

and my most weird mashed up find, also 15 euro, and all pieces were incomplete,
but the crater plate with building from #928, most of the classic space ATV and the fork lifting car (with the >10 euro all grey forklift piece) from 924.

Still on the lookout for more!

also, as i can use public transport for free, there's no risk and no transportation costs!
