I seem to have problems with buyers with high feedback. The last one had 1300 positive feedback.

It's not that low feedback instantly makes someone a crook, it's just about risk. Low feedback simply means there's more risk. To help mitigate that risk, I start up communication, asking them more-than-boilerplate questions, asking if they need help since they are obviously new, etc.

I feel it is justified to be leary of a low feedback score. When buying a car or a house, the first thing they look at is your credit score. If it isn't good enough, they will usually not give you a loan or charge you an insane amount of interest. We all started at 0 feedback and I'm sure most of us are trustworthy; it is just the way things are. You have to protect yourself.

But there is a big difference between low feedback because you are a newbie and low feedback because of negative scores. I would trust someone with low feedback but I wouldn't trust someone who have quite a few negatives. We all have to start somewhere.

Also true, but some people live with cash only buys. They believe that if you can't afford to pay cash you can't afford to own it. I agree having no credit at all in this day and age can be a bad thing.

As they say, respect is earned. I've just bid and bought a Toy Story minifig from a 1 feedback seller, realising the need to give new participants a chance and at the same time knowing it won't be a big deal if something goes wrong. But I would never buy a more expensive item from such a seller, buyer protection or not.

So yes we all have to start somewhere, buyers and sellers, but it is natural that you start small and gradually gain trust, rather than jump into big auctions straight away and expect a warm welcome.

You can get very good buys from newbies. It is a chance that i am willing to take.
I dont look at feedback score anymore it is getting pointless. People complain over silly things.
I do look at feedback left for others.

uhhh.....I answered a Craiglist ad and ended up with a #10188 (in the shipping box so it's in perfect condition), 2x#10232 (Palace Cinema) and a 10228 (Haunted House) for $575. When asked, the guy said he loaned some money to a friend to start a toy store but it never got off the ground so the friend gave him 20+ Lego sets in lieu of his investment.

^^ Are you in the US? I don't think ITDs in the US are able to order direct to consumer sets, so unless the friend was starting up a TRU, those sets weren't procured in the manner he said.

Yes, I’m in the USA. The only additional detail I’ve got was that the seller said the actual store (physical retail space) never occurred. I have no reason to not believe the story he told but it does make you wonder about the rest of the details. Like: ever heard of an on-line store vice Brick and Mortar? You would be surprised at the amount of people that are quick to spend the money on such endeavors with no planning or research. (My dad once loaned $10,000 to a friend to build wind farms in Guam). By the fact that the #10188 was in a shipping box that you commonly see at TRU, I suspect that he ordered his "stock" at full retail price.

Just Friday found a 10188 in the box priced at $240US. And a 31313 for $210.

My best find ever was in 2009; a #10196 Creator Carousel, #10189 Taj Mahal, and #7784 The Batmobile UCE. I paid $370 for all three. Sold Taj Mahal for $500 a few weeks later to repay wife who had purchased lot on her credit card. Sold Batmobile a few years ago for nice profit. Haven't assembled or even opened box yet but never parting with carousel...lol.

Got a call from my buddy that works at Wal-Mart. He said they were getting ready for the clearance and opened up the trailer with all of the LEGO in it and apparently the trailer wasn't water tight. Needless to say a bunch of the sets got wet and he asked if I would be interested. When I checked it out there was a bunch of big sets. Ended up getting several Dino HQ , Vampire Castles, Helms Deep, and TLR constitution sets. The boxes are roached but everything minus the instructions are good.

Got a #21103 Delorean Time Machine today off eBay for free! Did a random scroll through on eBay newly listed and saw one posted for $15 free shipping (someone clearing out their one random LEGO set). Purchased it immediately and then used a $20 gift card given to me by eBay Toys R Us for recently shopping with them. So I ended up with a free #21103 and $5 left on my gift card.

Trolling around Ebay looking for the right and left light bluish grey doors for a #10190 Market Street that I found on Ebay for $25 incomplete. I stumbled upon an auction with 3 pairs of the doors and won it for $34 with free shipping. The cheapest combo for the pair on BL in the U.S. is $38 plus shipping.

Picked up 6 used Friends sets off Craigslist today to give to my daughter for $80 (5 are retired). They appear to be complete, but I'll need to tear them down and inventory them to be sure. #3061 City Park Cafe, #3184 Adventure Camper, #3187 Butterfly Beauty Shop, #3188 Heartlake Vet, #41002 Emma's Karate Class, and #41008 Heartlake City Pool. I know she's going to be excited every time I pull one these out for her to build. She has been really disappointed that she missed the Vet when it was out, so that one was the kicker for me to pick the lot up.

Came away with £75 worth of LEGO for £18. Best deal I've had in years, even if it's not for a set I was particularly anxious to get!

For $30. I could not believe it! All I could think was that it had to be some sort of mistake, as I built the set, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it in any way.

Answered a Craigslist ad for a Cafe Corner. In the pictures, I could see the edges of GG and FB so I asked if he was interested in selling those as well. He responded that he also had a GE. Missing a few of the minifigs and the boxes but had all the instructions. Paid $1350.00 for all 4! Also grab a used 10188 for 300 on the same trip.

Bought a sealed UCS AT-ST via a german Lego-blog for 120€ shipped! The box has some shelfware but otherwise i´m more than happy,this set brought me out of my dark ages and i sold it when dark ages creeped in again, from the moment i´ve sold it i regreted it, and now i have it back :)

the General Greivous starfighter was probably my favorite find. The best thing is, I got them all for free! thank goodness for having a brother that couldnt really care much about lego. Original boxes and all!
Was also digging around the attic and I found a tin filed with instructions from the old Mars Missions, Exo Force and castle sets. very excited to find the rest!

also word on the street is, my friend down the street has set #10179 (Ultimate Collectors Millennium Falcon) unopened and MISB wish me luck as I try to convince him to give it to me (he doesnt even like legos )

I was crewing an ambulance at a local village hall's 100th anniversary today, but had a few chances to wander around and see all of the exhibitions and market stalls. I didn't win anything on the raffle (typical!), but I did notice a big bag of Duplo on the end of one of the stalls. I asked how much they wanted for the whole bag, and the ambulance ended up with some extra baggage to take home.

4.5kg of Duplo and a couple of baseplates for £1!

Yes, this was a Craigslist find. I was nervous that it was a scam or something would go wrong, but that was not the case. Just some young guy unloading old toys that must not be aware of the collector market. That eBay auction is crazy.
