@smillatt Definitely a bargain. I collect 80's castle too, but I never had that one. I'm very surprised some sets from 80's space and castle are going at roughly the same prices they were 10 years ago when I was last collecting.

Not to worry smillatt, I've put castle collecting on hold while I collect the Chima theme :) Plus I have the majority of castle stuff I want as I have x4 6080's and a ton of 80s castle figures and accessories (and quite a few sets including an unopened Legend Guarded Inn).

The best bargains I got since I started collecting:
    x2 Unopened 6195 Neptune Discovery Labs for £50, £47 (both within 24hrs!)
6958 Android Base, boxed for £7.20
    6927 All-Terrain Vehicle, boxed for £11.28 +combined postage (+£4)

Well I finished putting together the Knights castle...what a fun build. I was very surprised that it was only missing acouple of pieces....All three plumes for the Knights helmets...one of the big axes that goes on the tower ...Thats it. I'm going to start on the Woodmens base and The Dragon transport wagon on Monday. I'm not sure if i'm going to end up keeping them or selling them. I'm mainly into collecting for the city me and my kids are building and the Knights stuff is awsome but doesnt really fit the theme that i'm focusing on.

I just came back from picking up this collection off of Craigslist. I was not prepared for how big the collection was. There was alot more items not shown in the pictures. I got very lucky that the person I bought it off of kept all of the intructions and paper work that came with the sets. So far here is a list of the complete sets that I have found.... #7140 ..still has box... #6597 ..you canonly see the yellow helicopter in the pic but the whole set is there... #6348 ..#6598 ... #1845 ... #1786 ... #6079 ... #6090 ... #6056 ... #6278 ... #6066 ... Blown away with all of the old castle sets... #4011 ... #6897 .. All of those sets were seperated into seperat shoe boxes. There are several boxes of assorted sets that he said he cant confirm that all the pieces are there. As an added bonus there are 23 road plates some still wrapped in plastic and almost 20 more blue water and assorted size plates aswell. Also there is a still in its box Technic #8480 . I am not 100% sure its all there. I am looking forward to building all of the sets . Not bad for $75...I will post pics soon

$75?! Sounds like the deal of a lifetime to me.

I actually ended up giving him $80. I only had $20's and after seeing the amount of stuff I wasnt going to ask for change. He had all of these lego's at his mothers house and she wanted them gone. He said that he knew I was getting a good deal but that he didnt have time to deal with selling them. I used to make a pretty good amount of side money buying and selling comic book collections. When I would go check them out everyone knew how valuable some comics were and thought that their collection was worth a million bucks. Lego's on the other hand can still be found really cheap on places like Craigslist and flea markets and such...but those days of people not knowing the true value maybe coming to an end.

@T_Lars That's an outstanding bargain. I've had bargains before, but that's at least twice as good as the best bargain I ever got on ebay. Paying $75 for the Dark Forest Fortress alone is worth it! I love your avatar pic btw :) I also like the Forestmen sets and I have a ton (50+) of those Stag shields.

Wow! Best brag yet I'd say. RRP?
  • ShpadoinkleShpadoinkle Member Posts: 420
Yes. The kid in me wants to tear it open right now and build it, but the adult in me knows that there are bills that need paying so I may have to sell it. So I won't be yelling from the rooftops what I paid. ;-)

Wow... I can imagine how I would be. I get excited at reading this so...
  • LegoboyLegoboy Member Posts: 8,827
Absolutely amazing. If I were you, I'd feel compelled to ask of how it came to be on the shelf - I'd love to know the story behind it.

But more importantly, could this really be hope for those without that a Falcon might appear at any time on any shelf in the future? You just never know! ;-)

...next to the price scanner. I couldn't believe it, either. I'm still shaking from the adrenalin!

Box is the definition of "shelf wear" but all the seals are intact. Looks like it's been sitting in the back room for, oh, four years!

    What the? I don't even...

Beats my Imperial Flagship find at WM.

@Shpadoinkle Wow, I thought you were kidding! Hope you enjoy the set if you decide to crack it open.

I believe you, there is a WM in my area that has had many online only items like Unimog, SSD, etc show up throughout the year. They're often by the price scanner at this location too. Makes sense since it doesn't belong on the regular aisle planogram with no place to fit, price tag and everyone is probably scanning it to find the price. I just picked up a SSD at the above location for $199.00, inline with the other 50% off clearance two weeks ago. I'm sure yours was probably half off too. Don't feel bad you got a deal, everyone has a lucky find. I remember paying $20 for Cloud City at Tuesday Morning and it totally made my year!

On another note, I've got a TRU that has three IS and four SSD's just waiting for a bogo to pick them up.

Bought about 40 lbs of bulk on Sunday and another 22 lbs yesterday, in total paid just over $2.80 per pound. Missed out on a 30 gallon tote full to over flowing for $130., but I don't feel too bad as what we got was a great buy.

@just2good - you must have posted everywhere because I didn't find ANY of those sets. :-( I've been holding off on the Quinjet until I can find a better deal. I just can't spend $70 on it just to get Black Widow.

I did pick up #5609 Duplo Deluxe Train for $50. The box was beat up but everything seems to be there. That's $70 off retail. The boy will love it.

Over the past few years, I have obtained all CMFs in Series 1-8, as well as duplicates of most of the more popular ones (e.g. six Hazmat Suits). I also got several old Star Wars sets for great deals on eBay a few months ago.

Never had any Exo-Force kits, but just saw #7700 and #7701 in one of my local charity shops for £3.49 each; both in unopened boxes too! I went in to look at the children's books for my kids and class at school, as usual, never expecting to see any Lego. But then I spied the red square logo from across the shop!

Before I could grab them, a young lad and his dad who were right next to the shelf also spotted them and picked one up. Dad was clueless - kept saying it was a Ben 10 Transformer - and had to ask his wide for advice. She decided to buy one (7701) while I lurked as close as I could. Thankfully they left the other for me.

My local Walmart has a 10188 Death Star on the shelves this morning. At RRP so there it remains. They can't all be gold!

Though I must say I enjoyed the seconds leading up to when the price rang up on the scanner, sort of a mini rush at least!

Didn't get 'em, though. The Pet Shop was $105, but the box was beaten up and a bit open.

I posted this find on euro bricks a year back right after I secured it. So I apologize for the double post.

I placed a LEGO wanted add on Craigslist asking to buy used blocks for $5 a pound (about %80 of our collection was acquired this way). Shorty after posting the wanted add I received an email from an older lady saying she has some LEGO that her kids no longer want and she will leave it on her front step for me to pick up. And best of all for free! She left no phone number, just here address. So I immediately left work to go pick it up. I did not expect much, but it was free so I figured it was worth the 15 minuet drive.

And this is what I found sitting in the driveway.
    image

I have had a few other good finds, but nothing will ever come close to matching that.

Just found a #8943 Axalara T9 in the return basket at a WM up in the city. Never collected Bionicle, and the online prices were discouraging, but I couldn't put it back when it rang up at $25.00.

Now the real question: build, sell, or part out?

I have a really good find. Yesterday i found 2 copies of magikus marked for $1 each at BAM, minus my 10% discount for being a member, i paid .90(plus tax) for each!

Went to my local Toys R Us and asked if they had any extra Elrond minifigures from the game sale figuring i'd get a no. Guy reached under the counter and handed me one. Awesome.

I have just bought a tub of lego from charity shop full of vintage space lego (£4). No instructions though so it will take me a while to figure out what's there. Yesterday I bought large box of very dirty vintage train lego, masses of track, 3 battery boxes and motors and tons of bricks in very poor condition.(£10).
