I consider this fairly brag-worthy. In the past few days I've picked up the following 4 flagship sets:

World Racers: 8864 Desert of Destruction (Wal-Mart toy clearance)
Toy Story: 7597 Western Train Chase (Wal-Mart toy clearance)
Space Police 3: 5974 Galactic Enforcer (TRU $25 off coupon)
Pirates of the Caribbean: 4195 Queen Anne's Revenge (discounted)

I put this ship together this evening - it's my first ship, and it's beautiful. Can't wait for The Pearl!

I think my all time best find was 30 lbs (13.6 kg) of Samsonite era bricks for $90. It's very strange lot of miscellaneous and random stuff.

My most recent great find was nearly complete 905 Doll Set with box, instructions and enough extra part for other nearly complete Doll Set and 605 Wheel Toy for $22. The box is in very good shape and the instructions are perfect. The real kicker is that many for the CA bricks are like new and with little to no warping. I would have paid a lot more for this and I feel a bit bad for the seller because it should have gone for more.

Picked up SW Turbo Tank today at Wal-Mart for $30! Also bought Minotaurus for less than $5, The Burrow for $15 and a Seabed Stride from Target for $3.30. Not a bad haul for 1 day of hunting.

Recently picked up PoP Battle of Alamut for $13.48 or so from Target. Thanks to a flickr post from Rob of PENNLUG I was alerted of sales at Kmart and picked up several Power Miners Claw Catchers for $3 as well as the SP3 Undercover Police Cruiser for $3!

I go all around over town and through yard sales so I am always coming across ridiculous deals. You've got to create your own luck I guess.

Just got this sweet auction yesterday. Paid a dollar a fig in the end. Nice addition to my Pirates and Castle addictions:

Stumbled into a Sears/Kmart store yesterday and wasn't even aware they were going out of business. They had a relatively small remaining toy section and on first glance I saw no Lego. But hiding on the bottom for some reason were 5x Prison Tower Rescue (7947 - MSRP $50). Toys were marked 75% off! Walked out with those five boxes for just under $70 after tax.

That's the only Lego they had. Was odd.

Couldn't resist sharing this one. I don't have a LegoFanTexas-sized budget ("What?? Emerald Night is being retired?? *buys 17x*) lol, so my acquisition of sets occurs at a very slow pace. When one of those purchases is a knockout, I get really pumped about it.

I placed a nominal bid on a sealed 8417 the other day on eBay, and no one cared to bid higher. $11.50 for 315 pieces of new Technic from 1998. And I didn't know it at the time, but the set was just large enough to feature one of those awesome fliptop box lids. I just love being able to get a preview of the pieces inside the box. It was an obvious cost-saving measure by Lego to move away from that but I really do miss those boxes.

The box condition is far from perfect, but who can complain at that cost?

A recent find I'm proud of is 10191 - Star Justice Factory set I picked up on eBay for $12.50. No box, but complete w/instructions.

I found a brand new in box 4643 Power Boat Transporter this weekend at a thrift shop for $12. I never planned on buying that set but couldn't pass it up at that price. I'm in the process of modifying it into an ADU transport truck for Alien Conquest.

I teach 4th grade and I have little Lego minifigs on my desk so my students know I love Lego.
Well, just yesterday one of my students brought me all his minifigs and Lego sets his mom was going to give away. The sets are all mixed together, BUT he told me Avatar and Batman sets are in it (and yes I found the minifigs to those sets in the pile already).

Super excited because I missed out on a lot of the Batman stuff and always put off buying the Avatar stuff until it was too late and too expensive!
Now I just have the fun of sorting the sets out!
  • Rollo_TomassiRollo_Tomassi Member Posts: 113
That's kinda sad that kid's mom is making him get rid of his Legos. What's her problem?
  • LambringoLambringo Member Posts: 104
^^ vote for worst mother of the year. Sure they may have gone to a charity, but a kids entire LEGO collection!!!
  • MattPetersenMattPetersen Member Posts: 282
He told me he never played with them.
He would rather have more video games and those stupid Bakugan things.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
He doesn't now, he will in 10 years... He'll wish he had kept that collection. But then in the 80s I had the entire Star Wars plastic toy line, including the Falcon, loved that dumb thing, sold it in a garage sale because it never occurred to either me or my mother that we should keep it.

    Oh well...
  • Rollo_TomassiRollo_Tomassi Member Posts: 113
Thankfully, ive held onto most of my childhood toys. My dad's mother gave all his vintage 45 records and baseball cards away when he was in the army, so he's never had a problem with me holding onto my stuff. He knows whats its like to regret. We're all borderline hoarders in my family.
  • pcironepcirone Member Posts: 346
I am forever trying to make up for that grave error I committed at 17 or so when I gave away my Technic collection (948,952,954,956,960,961,8858,8860,etc,etc) because I thought "what will I ever need these for again?"...
  • AScaryOctopusAScaryOctopus Member Posts: 57
Well there is this medium sized hobby store that had some really old LEGO in it. Some gems I've found are:

Most of the old Batman line

    The Avatar stuff

    Power Miners

    All the minifig series

There is also a little collectors shop that has a counter with a glass window above it, and there are minifigs in it. I have seen Santa Yoda, Voodoo Jack, Chrome 3P0, and White Boba in there.

I lucked into 10040-1: Black Seas Barracuda at my son's school charity event. Brand new and sealed for $60.

10182 Cafe Corner- All SEALED LEGO bags plus original manuals for $406+$15 shipping. I know it's not the greatest deal, but $421 for a new Cafe Corner (without) box) is good for me.
  • oldtodd33oldtodd33 Member Posts: 2,728
^ Now I know why you asked how many bags are in 10182. Sounds like a good deal on the price. Happy building.

Scored a at least 80% complete have rocket and stickers. (still building) 7690 Mars Mission with box and instructions for $20 bucks on craigslist.

Well, having had to endure your scores for several months, I guess my turn had to come sooner or later! Thanks to a tip-off from @princedraven, I managed to score this lot a couple of hours ago - £110.

    One day Rodney....

Thanks. Just wondering what the bloody hell I'm supposed to do with it all now? They're neither UCS or modular!?

^ I'm sure, should you wish to offload some of them, there would be some takers on here ... ;-)
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
Yeah... real good price if the pieces and manuals are in good condition!
  • devilheaddevilhead Member Posts: 286
Just scored 4999 Vestas Wind Turbine on Ebay for $300 plus $20 shipping. Surprised I was the only bidder for a sealed in mint condition set.

Just picked up a MISB 10181 from eBay for $650 delivered...

Very minor creasing on the box, but nothing you can see from a few feet away. I could be wrong, but that strikes me as a good price.
  • brickupdatebrickupdate Member Posts: 1,020
@LegoFanTexas that is indeed a good price for a sealed box set. Though... I never liked the look of the set itself. I know that shouldn't affect it's investment value, but still.

The post office just delivered 10143... Wow, nice condition for the price... I'll let you guess what I paid for it. :)

This picture also shows the 10181 I just received in the mail the other day, along with the 10196 and 10189.

My better half said I could keep 2 of those 4, so long as I sell the other 2.

The question becomes, which 2 do I sell, and which two do I keep? :)
  • hleonffuhleonffu Member Posts: 247
I would try to keep these 3 - 10196 (have it), 10181 and 10189. Don't have the last 2. I am sure you already have 10143.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
The boss said 2, I'll stick with 2. :) Besides, at some point we'll just run out of room, and I do have to pay for all this silliness. :)

I'm pretty sure I want to keep 10181, it is tall and impressive and will look great anywhere.

I'm leaning towards 10196 because it is colorful and moves, but the reviews on Brickset say it is fragile and doesn't work well.

10143 is nice because it would look good sitting next to 10188. Speaking of which, why doesn't 10188 have a display stand like the other UCS series and 10143 for that matter?

10189 is probably getting sold, it has never been out of that box, it is as mint as it gets. Besides, the reviews say it is really just a 6,000 brick 4x build, so it is four 1,500 piece sets, is it not?
  • MatthewMatthew Administrator Posts: 3,714
^ Nah, you really don't want 10196, just send it my way, I'll store it for free, with no threat of divorce :o)
