About a year ago I also got #5766 Log Cabin for 15 EUR , #7065 Alien Mothership for 30 EUR, #3368 Space centre for 29 EUR and #7930 Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship for I think it was 19 EUR but may have been a little more. These all came from Tesco.

I also picked up the #8071 Bucket truck off Amazon for 22GPB (worked out at about 28-29 EUR) that I spotted here on brickset and which I ordered over 2 weeks ago and it only just arrived 2 days ago.

Maybe not the greatest find, but I just picked up 3368 from Wally World for $39. Had a weird sale sticker on it, but it scanned for that amount so I picked it up for my son.

Did anyone on the forums make it to the garage sale in Oceanside, CA that advertised "A Lot of Lego"? I saw the ad on craigslist, and wanted to check it out but it was only from 7am to noon and was closed by time we made it down from Anaheim.

    A little insomnia and some early morning drive led to this $80 score of early Star Wars sets: 7203 7104x2 7113 7134 7127 7106 7209 4476 7103 7110 7124 7111 7204 7201 7128 7126 7121 7180

    About half are still sealed

    8019- Republic attack shuttle
    7748- Corporate alliance tank droid
    7778- Millennium falcon (midi-scale)
    7669- Anakins Jedi Starfighter
    7671- AT-AP walker
    8016- Hyena droid bomber
    7667- Imperial dropship
    6205- V-wing fighter
    7654- Droids battle pack
    8018- Armoured assault tank

All for £25, at a car boot sale, the old dear obviously didn't realise the value of what she had (the grandkids had "grown" out of it!) so, I knocked her down from £30!
Now being cleaned! Only a couple of figs missing, all instructions present.

My Bricklink orders arrived & the aforementioned Power Miners/Rock Raiders sets are made! Too bad I didnt get into these themes earlier, they're really neat! & I got the "Dad dont ever take this apart!" vote on the Rock Raiders HQ!

Also, seems to be parts of 6614 Launch Evac 1 in the garage sale haul!
  • Penkid11Penkid11 Member Posts: 787
After reading gelkster's comment, It really had me wish that Lego produced a UCS sized LMS Explorer from Rock Raiders. It still could be done today, but it would probably have to include a small backstory.

Found a sealed nearly mint box, 1670 Trial Size LEGO system. A whopping 26 pieces! It was at a Goodwill for 89 cents.

Found Queen Anne's Revenge for $79 at Target. It was hidden behind a couple of Helm's Deep.

Hi I have not posted before, but felt compelled to respond to pricey73's comment and stand up for the 'old dear' who was taken advantage of by a greedy carbooter, who then went online to brag about knocking her asking price down. Perhaps every time you look at these pieces of your collection you will be filled with pride.
  • theayeshaveittheayeshaveit Member Posts: 48
To be fair this is actually the brag thread...

Yes but not against an old lady, much better against the big rich stores! I can't see this is something to brag about.

Eh ? They agreed a price and he paid that price. Don't 99% of people successfully barter at carboots ? I always do

Can somebody please define to a Canadian what a Car Boot sale is?

I can't say these types of comments/characterjabs are really welcome here. I can understand where you are coming from, but that last sentence is a little un-called for.. It is the person's fault if they don't research and take the time to find out what their items are worth, not pricey73s. :-)

The most mind boggling thing I ever witnessed at a boot sale was when I overheard a bloke asking this lady how much she wanted for a five pound coin she had amongst the items on her table. She said £3, and I was like, "What?!" He paid her £3 and wandered off with a knowing grin on his face.

Public sale of second hand goods, normally in big places like fields/school playgrounds/airfields etc. Sellers take their goods in a car boot/trunk and sell from a table top.

Sellers pay a fee (£5-£10) to organiser, browsers often free

  • greekmickgreekmick UKMember Posts: 710
I used to love the old boot sales selling pirate dvds and louis vuitton bags. Now seems to be just dog biscuits and baby clothes
  • CupIsHalfEmptyCupIsHalfEmpty CanadaMember Posts: 547
That makes sense. The free online dictionary gave the definition that items were sold from the boot/trunk. Funny, in Canada we call a boot sale a Flee Market. Which in all honesty is a worse, more confusing name.
  • CupIsHalfEmptyCupIsHalfEmpty CanadaMember Posts: 547
Sorry to go slightly off topic...

Do you have Garage or Yard sales in the UK? Where you sell a bunch of old stuff in front of your house for one weekend?

You guys sure know how to roll out the welcome mat.

Did pricey73 score a great deal or what? Absolutely! That's a fantastic buy. Was he condescending in his description of the seller? Absolutely. Calling a stranger an 'old dear', even if their age warrants it, is less than endearing.

For what it's worth, welcome to the Brickset forum @ewinn!

@theclonetrooper - I didn't get an unbelievable $200-for-the-whole-lot deal, but I paid approx. 50% of the current used market value based on my estimates.... Not bad in my book.

Most are going to be parted out and sold, but I'm currently building the Eiffel tower. Unbelievable build.

    Good couple of days.

The past couple of days trawling around my local Tesco store has resulted in some good finds, although the shelf edge labels all showed the original prices so it was a bit hard to find the bargains.

Those that were reduced seemed to be rounded down to the nearest pound, then divided by 4. E.g. the #6862-2 Superman Vs Power Armor Lex was reduced from £19.99 to £4.75 and #3865 City Alarm was reduced from £14.99 to £3.50. I found a few other reduced sets each time I went back.

Net result was £524 of Lego in pristine boxes for only £124 :)

got a 7903 Rescue Helicopter for $10 from a garage sales, miss about 7 parts. but the best part is somehow, a spiderman Mini figure is in that bag

also got a 6211 for 25, but miss all mini figures and miss about 40 pieces. still trying to get the inventory of the parts. So I can rebuild and then hi jack by Loki and Joker!

I keep mine sealed (closed)....not for resell, but for "I can." I've always had some kind of hobby to entertain myself, but collecting Lego sets has outlasted them all. The day will come when the simple things in life will outweigh my joy of collecting personal things/items. Until that day comes, I'll be collecting sealed Lego sets.

Valid point, but if you collect sealed boxes, then is there really a dilemma as to if you open it or not?

No dilemma what so ever. The last Lego item I opened and built was the Hazmat Guy. Yesterday my wife bought me the Haunted House for my birthday. I really love the Monster set line. I've been contemplating buying three sets to create a larger house....of course, with other items to complement the design.
