Friend of mine traveled to Mass. and scored 2 large PaB Cups of 1x4 Pepto Pink Bricks for me! Woo-hoo! Haven't seen this on any walls down in NY. Thanks @jwsmart
The Elizabeth Lego store at Jersey Gardens has 1x4 Pink Bricks

^ Indianapolis store had them too. Purple plates should be coming to a PaB wall near you as well (if not there already).

Managed to be able to get hold of brand new Alien Invasion sets 7065 and 7050 for NZ$50 (GBP24); quite pleased - although it has to go away for Christmas as my Wife found out :(

@BoiseState, picked up BOTh HP Hogwarts at Wal Mart yesterday for $30.00 each - can't figure out why the little one was the same price as the big one?

    Both? Wow..

Pet Shop $100 and Diagon Alley for $100. Probably were cheaper at some point, but the price per piece count makes me happy... Already had Diagon at full retail, but had to do it.

^^^ Big Hogwarts at $30? Jealous! And I even own that one already for free (was a gift!). Actually I'm even jealous of the small one at $30... £46 is the cheapest I've seen here but all my money is CAN... so basically, it's way overpriced for me... sigh.

Got Attack on Weathertop and NRG Cole at Fred Meyer yesterday for only $42.82 ($36.71 and $6.11 respectively). I combined the "20% off $20 worth of toys" coupon, the almost weekly "10% off Home Goods" coupon, and my family's employee discount card (15% off) to get NRG Cole free and Weathertop for practically 40% off. Helms Deep was there as well but because m I am, however content with the outcome. I saved $27.16, and as a plus, Weathertop is bigger than I imagined. A good day.

    Last best deals:
Target - $19.01 for Temple of Doom in January (didn't ring up at counter, cashier made up price)
K-Mart - $15 last week for both Weasely House + Hero factory Meltdown (they rang up two meltdowns mistakenly and didn't notice until I left)
I'm not sure I would be bragging about cheating a store...
If the store sold the set to him at that prices be it, but the other ones would have to scratch my head. If the store cheated us by overcharging or not putting an item in a bag we would immediately have returned and complained. Why is it any different if you got a"steal" of a deal and failed to return to the store and point it out?

...I have done this countless times. Some of my clients have given me the wrong amount of money and i tell them immediately. Just the other day my client gave me a $50 because she thought it was a $5

^ I think if either partly realise something's amiss then it's cheating if they don't come clean.

Just picked up some used sets. $700 for IF, QAR, kings castle (2010), maersk train, EN, cargo train, passenger train, HP train, toy story train, train station and crossing set. Supposedly only 5 or 6 minor pieces missing. Will take me a bit to go through it all.

Craigslist ad said $600 (USD) in Lego for $20.00. I figured it was either a scam or a typo but here's what we got for $20 from a college student who was of trying to find room for it; Pharaoh's Quest sets 7305 Scarab Attack, 7306 Golden Staff Guard, 7307 Flying Mummy Attack, 7325 Cursed Cobra Statue, 7326 Rise of the Sphinx, and 7327 Scorpion Pyramid. Lord of the Rings sets; 9469 Gandolf Arrives, 9471 Uruk Hai Army, 9472 Attack on Weathertop, 9473 Mines of Moria and 9474 Battle of Helms Deep. Super Heroes set 6869 Quinjet Aerial Attack and Star Wars sets 7956 Ewok Attack, 9489 Endor Rebel Trouper & Imperial Trooper Battle Packs, 9492 Tie Fighter and 9495 Gold Leaders Y Wing.

Turns out it cost us about $.003 per piece.

yeah, really makes no sense at all. he had those what, like a few weeks at most? either it's daddy's money, and he don't care, or the stuff wasn't his maybe?
  • AFFOL_Shellz_BellzAFFOL_Shellz_Bellz Member Posts: 1,263
I'd suggest it was daddy's money as he's a student at a university that costs about 50K a year. They are still mostly built.

Pardon my double post, but as it turns out the young man is a foreign student getting ready to return home for the summer. So it was a matter of not paying the cost to ship them.

Quick question for fellow UK'ers - Do we have something along the lines of Craigslist? I know there is Gumtree but to be quite honest it's absolute poopy for finding LEGO. I go green with jealousy (the harmless kind) everytime I see you US guys picking up incredible finds.

Secondly, where are all the Gall darned discounts?! All I see from the US guys is "30% off this, 25% off that" but I've never seen any of these kind of discounts in the UK. At least, not on the good stuff (plenty of 10% off crap sets at Markups R Us, etc).

    Raaaaawr!

Gumtree is sometimes good I got an absolute bargain a while back. £100 for the white model team truck, plus the black and yellow train set, plus a vintage yellow train set with massive transformer, 2 classic castles plus loads of little sets and something else which i can't remeber what it was. I sold alot of it and made more money back.

In the south west we also have Trade it whic is OK on occassion. Again got a great bargain a while back £40 for 2 creator large sets a load of racer stuff and 4 city sets, recycle truck police truck and something else.

That's about it unless you class car boots and the occassinal find on fackbook.

I got a City Corner and Farm for £20 about this time last year, but yes, mostly they seem to charge out the roof on gumtree.

Even our local charity shop puts signs on items saying what a similar one sold for on ebay - and then accompany it with a similar high price.
  • meyerc13meyerc13 Member Posts: 227
^ That would actually be a nice change - someone selling the item at the going rate. Usually what I see is people asking for the highest price they've found in some seller's Amazon or ebay store - never mind that it isn't selling at that price.

Locally some guy has been listing a bunch of Bionicle for several hundred dollars (no idea how he came up with that price). Since that's been posted I've found larger lots for 1/10 that price both on Craigslist and at a local thrift shop. Yet he keeps posting it again and again at the same insanely high price. Must not be in a hurry to sell.
  • jamiewjamiew Member Posts: 165
Picked up 50 lbs of Lego pieces, 8 lbs of bionicles and 5 lbs of Lego soccer for 175. Included tons of instructions and lots of partial and complete sets. Nothing high dollar but mostly late 90's--star wars, city, lots of car sets. Found about 40 minifigs and tons of accessories. This was off a Craigslist ad. I'd been on a terrible run lately there- seems like I'm lucky to even get a reply most days so I'm happy about this one

Is anyone on here in the Lansing, MI area, or willing to drive there? On the 10th someone posted they have between $5-10 thousand worth, estimated over 100 lbs and they are taking offers. I thought about having my sister get it for me but she's not an afol and would not know what to offer. The person is getting ready to move and doesn't want to move the Lego again! Someone might get a good deal!!

Dunno if this is legit, but someone near St. Louis may be able to get a new 6285 Black Seas Barracuda for $60:

^^ Yeah, I called already. Lady said she had several calls at $60 and if I would go $75 she'd sell it to me. I told her I'd take it and pick it up tomorrow. She called back 10 minutes later and said she had 23 more calls/text offering upwards of $200. Said she was going to take it off and "do more research". I told her that if she was reneging on her price to not call me back. Another craigslist flake!
  • BoiseStateBoiseState Member Posts: 804
I hate people that do that.. If you list a price, that's it. If she wants a bidding war put it on EBay.
  • graphitegraphite USMember Posts: 3,240

Wow, that's a really decent find, especially for Gumtree! You must have caught it really soon after being listed! Anything decent that does pop up seems to disappear in a heartbeat. I also see a lot of people selling MISB sets at the top end of the price bracket. I guess prople are always looking for a decent alternative to feeBay.
Even our local charity shop puts signs on items saying what a similar one sold for on ebay - and then accompany it with a similar high price.
Yeah, it's so daft. If people are going to pay (sometimes inaccurate!) eBay prices for something they are more than likely togo and get it on eBay where they have the choice of a competetive market. It just totally messes with the business format of the charity shop: Free stock - dirt cheap prices - huge volume of sales - lots of money for charity!

They really piss tick me off sometimes!

I work in South Kensington and often check the charity shops for lego (never found any). One shop wanted £35 for used Ralph polo shirt and £3 for a £4.99 used hardback kids book. I don't get it?

Yes, unfortunately LEGO is rare as hell in charity shops. I don't even bother looking anymore, I just walk up to them and ask. I usually get a pretty uniform response of "we had a HUGE box earlier but it sold 10 minutes after it went in the window".

    Bugger.

I do know someone that missed out on a complete and boxed UCS ISD last week by about 3 minutes and £2.50 from a charity shop!!!

I don't think he's jumped yet, but I would imagine he's lost a considerable amount of weight over the past few days.

I got the same exact run-a-round. I'm just wondering if it was 6243 Brickbeard's Bounty instead since her description was vague and she said she had bought it as a gift. I kind of doubt someone with no knowledge of Lego would keep a NIB set, that was to be a gift, in storage for over twenty years. But who knows.
