LEGO 2014 Catalogs with 10% Coupon?

I was just wondering if anyone new if Lego has stopped doing this. I know there were coupon and non-coupon variations. I used to get a coupon one regularly, even got one from the Lego store one time. Has anyone gotten a coupon with the newest 2014 catalog? It's looking like all my saved up VIP points will have to go towards a full priced item :(

I've gotten that coupon exactly one time in my years of receiving their catalog. That was in 2012. I promptly used it on a modular building.

^^ I'm not quite sure what item you were saving up for and hoping to use the coupon on. While there are a few exceptions, most items $100+ are listed as exclusives, and are no longer subject to the 10% coupons.

My last catalog did not have the coupon for the first time ever for me. Granted it seems that it would not be of much use any more.

After the no discounts on exclusives policy I know my local store had a TON of disappointed and upset customers who were told the coupon couldn't be used on the items they wanted. And we aren't talking AFOLs here, just average kids and their parents. People absolutely hate that kind of thing

I suspect that the coupons were discontinued due to that negative fallout

I only got a 10% coupon one time and I believe that was last year, which was promptly used on Tower of Orthanc. The coupon didn't have any restrictions on exclusive sets and the coupon worked fine. I haven't seen one since.

I haven't seen one on my last two or three catalogs and I used to receive them just about every time.

Never seen it, and I've been receiving the catalog for about two years now.

Yeah...I think the 10% off coupons are gone for the immediate future.

I used to receive them all the time and used them all the time at The Lego Store. Don't get them anymore. Don't go to the Lego Store anymore.

^ I've picked up on some adversarial vibes from the Lego Store employees recently. It's almost as if they see a grown man buying Lego and think "RESELLER". Interesting because almost half the store shelf space is devoted to large, expensive sets that attract AFOL. I also see a lot more beat up boxes that in the past they would discount. For example they have a crushed, half-opened Sydney Opera House sitting right next to the display model. Not the best way to sell a $320 set.

I thought it was typical for the expensive sets to have a beat up box on display. I've seen it a lot with the DS.

I do not believe that they can discount exclusive battered boxes anymore, that is how pervasive the ban is on discounts. So if there is a beaten up box that is an exclusive they have to sell it for regular price.

Recently I noticed that the #10221 Super Star Destroyer box on the shelf was just an empty plastic shell. You had to ask an employee to get you the actual set at the time of purchase, thus mostly insuring a box in good condition. Did not notice any other large set getting this treatment though.

^ The other is #10188 at my local store.

I think they have started doing this with other large sets as well. Makes sense!
