Duplo castle wall pieces

These come in a left and right side (door + window) which hinge together to form 8 x 8 corners.
I have questions:
1. I get 8 x 9 multiples when I make rooms . How do you put floors in this odd size?
2. I get lengths of 15 when I make straight walls (the hinge is a shared hole). How do you arrange floors to suit?
3. My castles have too many doors. Is there a window which will fit the door opening ?
4. How do you hide the hinge at the end of a wall piece
5. Has anyone thought about getting the most useable volume for the least wall pieces (I have 10)
6. How do you attach spires to castles and keep a realistic look
7. Is is desirable to have floors the same colour as walls (dark bluish grey) or a contrasting colour (brown, blue, red) ?
8. Are horizontal builds more pleasing than vertical builds ?
9. Can you mix turrets and square walls in a uniform architectural style ?

Hopefully this displays OK; else follow the link for a couple of examples one = bigger footprint; the other (with one terribly out of focus) is an upward creation.

For the quantity you have, you can't go too far up; however everything really depends on the volume of blocks you have. Use other greys and blacks to flesh out the volume ...

Basically I bought the entire range of Duplo Castles including 1x the rare set #4785. , as well as 4 further sets of #4777 when on clearance special.

    Cheers and good luck.

    1. I get 8 x 9 multiples when I make rooms . How do you put floors in this odd size?

You should only use one pair of walls, then 3x 2x2x2 bricks for the far corner support. This means little hands can get inside to play.

    2. I get lengths of 15 when I make straight walls (the hinge is a shared hole). How do you arrange floors to suit?

You can use 3x 2x1x2 bricks at the side to fill the gap, although this then goes round the corner a little.

    3. My castles have too many doors. Is there a window which will fit the door opening ?

We use either balconies to make the door have some sense, or use the cage / cell front.

    4. How do you hide the hinge at the end of a wall piece

Don't need to, use them in pairs.

    5. Has anyone thought about getting the most useable volume for the least wall pieces (I have 10)

One pair per floor, plus 3x 2x2x2 bricks on the corner as above.

    6. How do you attach spires to castles and keep a realistic look

Use a round turret on the top floor.

    7. Is is desirable to have floors the same colour as walls (dark bluish grey) or a contrasting colour (brown, blue, red) ?

My kids don't care too much. Although most of ours are black, grey or brown. Especially the trap door pieces. Blue ones get used as water under the lower trap door.

    8. Are horizontal builds more pleasing than vertical builds ?

    No. Both are good.

    9. Can you mix turrets and square walls in a uniform architectural style ?

Yes. We normally have a trap door on the top of the walls, then a turret and then the spire.
