Back in the saddle!

Hello one and all. I'm an AFOL...really a bit of a toy collector in general- toys from the early 80's mostly. Transformers, GI Joe, Muscles, Go-bots, video games...I tend to go on streaks of getting into one specific toy line from my childhood for a few years and then proceed to spend entirely too much time and money on it.

LEGO was one of my first favorites. I got the alpha 1 rocket base as an X-mas present when i was about 5, which is really my first memory of a Christmas present. I fondly remember nightly pouring over the Legoland 6000 idea book in which Bill and Mary appear to be entirely unconcerned about their house burning down and proceed to go on an adventure. I suppose by mist standards on this forum, i'm a light collector when it comes to LEGO, but i have my favorites and have saved a number of figs and parts over the years.

I have a 6 year old now (and another on the way) that has finally been getting into LEGO for the past half year, so i am coming out of my latest Dark Age with a vengeance. We saw the movie opening weekend, which we both loved and I've already bought too many sets.

For me there is something hauntingly serene about Lego figures and lego landscapes, videos and animations. It harkens back to those idea books, like Bill and Mary...Lego figs with their unwavering smiles in their worlds of bright color pallets. I cant put my finger on the feeling i get when i see them, its borderline unsettling, but in a good way.

Anyway, we are breaking ground construction on our lego city right now. We don't have a huge space for it, probably about a 5x5 platform that is a cutout in our basement playroom. We are working on a name for our town and when we get it going i hope to post some pictures.

Love this site and all the ideas and inspiration I get from lurking here!

Good story, and welcome. Also, I hope you typed/sang the title of your post in a Steven Tyler voice

If you're an obsessive collector, by joining Brickset you're in both the wrong and the right place at the same time. Welcome to the hobby, and keep a close watch on your wallet...

I just finished going through my old GI Joe stuff while cleaning out the crawl space, great memories there. Still have all my old Kenner SW figures too...add in all the Lego, and it's a good thing I have an extra-large basement!
