And I don't need an army of Melt-face Harry chasing down the rebels, telling me how 'top top' everything is.
Awful trooper design.
For picture, see:
Harry Redknapp, the inspiration for the new Stormtrooper
On the whole these OT sets look to have taken a huge step closer toward movie accurate colour schemes, a step i didn't even imagine possible. Those Snowtroopers look amazingly movie-accurate (a bit of a shame they make my older ones look so dated, but that's to be expected - although, already having the last AT-AT, i'll be passing this one anyway. Just too much other stuff to save for, Sea Cow, Orthanc, etc.
I also really like the 'hammerhead' mold. I'll definitely hope for a film-version fig, or will try to pick him up separately to add to the cantina.
It's a shame the dewback looks to be a solid piece with no articulation points, but it does certainly convey a nice sense of 'heft' to it's shape, which is nice.
I'm going to make Han shoot first. Every. Day.
At least it is a set that looks like an exclusive but hopefully will not be (judging by the box art, it is not).
That Heartlake shopping center, if it stays at 110 is not bad at all. I think for 110 bucks it looks pretty robust.
I'm not totally sold on the new dewback, though. I can fully appreciate that specialized parts are needed for a lot of LEGO creatures to make them appropriately lifelike. And I love the more realistic scale of the recent Dino theme compared to the 2001 Dinosaurs theme. But I miss the old dinosaur/creature parts that could be reused for a diverse range of creatures, rather than needing separate molds for each new animal at that scale. The dewback and elephant were great examples of those parts' versatility.
I frankly love the Cantina set, and will probably buy it asap. I like the Dewback, the size of the set is pretty large, and the minifigs are top notch. I wish they could have added more to the Cantina itself and another minifig or two and ditched the Landspeeder, but it's understandable why they put it in there(to give the kids some swoosh factor). It definitely does need more denizens. If they did a "Cantina Battlepack" with Dr. Evazan, Ponda Baba, Momaw Nadon, and another, and an add-on section, you know this would fly off the shelves, and boost sales of the Cantina as well. Ahh wishful thinking...(daydreams)
Sure, you get Luke, Obi-Wan, Han, and Greedo (and the band members). but I would have liked to see a couple of the aliens as well but that is just me
I guess it is a bit of a shame they aren't included since there isn't really any other scene that could include them without making this one redundant. But I don't think it's really a big enough set to warrant more than eight minifigures.
I guess this could have maybe been expanded and divided into two sets. One could include Han, Greedo, the band, and some of the missing patrons. The other could include the landspeeder, the moisture vaporator, the dewback, Luke, Obi-Wan, the Sandtrooper, and maybe even the droids. But you'd still be really pushing it with the minifigure counts in that case. There's not a whole lot of expansion you can do for the cantina without it becoming repetitive, and likewise there's only so much scenery you could add to the exterior scene to justify three to five figs and a non-brick-built creature. Beyond that, you'd be effectively cutting Luke and Obi-Wan out of a pretty important scene for them, which might reduce the cantina set's appeal as a stand-alone purchase (Han and maybe Chewie would be the only main characters in the set).
Unlike the vast majority of the OT figs, which seem to be super-detailed for extra film accuracy (check out those star destroyer figs, printed stormy legs, officer caps, etc), Greedo appears more 'old school' in his design and is therefore quite basic by comparison. The printing, where it appears, is finely detailed (leg holster, jacket), but no arm printing, and the blue of his jacket/legs seems quite vibrant, rather than washed-out.
I don't have the original, so this will be my only Greedo, but the colour palette of the original seems more precise, and I would like to have seen the arms printed again.
I don't know who said it, but yeah, the Bar having no barman is an odd gap... looks like I might need to buy that TMNT mutation chamber (he'd work as a barman).
For me, drop Luke & Ben & speeder (give 'em their own set if needs be, preferably featuring SandPeople and Banthas), and let's include the rancor keepers, barkeepers and ponda babas of the universe. :o)
What is the point of the set if it doesn't have two of the main characters from the scene in it? It is then no longer stand alone. I'm sure if you speak to most kids that have seen SW, or their parents or grandparents that are buying the set, they remember Luke and Ben going in, some rude aliens at the bar, the band, Han Solo shooting some other alien. They might remember what Greedo looks like. The other aliens? Mainly human-like bodies with funny heads.
They don't want to have to buy another set to enable their kid to play with a large one missing the key characters.
I think it's an argument no one can win, because on one hand you have the multi-set buyers ending up with a thousand clones at the expense of a lack of some other important characters (I'd call a barman a rather important character in a bar personally) to the scene and on the other hand you have the single-set buyers ending up without the key characters.
Or Lego could just stop being stingy and throw the barman in because let's face it the impact of another minifigure in such a set on profits would probably be pretty negligible in the grand scheme of things.
