Anyone know when these might be available in store?

I love the Lego Movie spaceship. It looks a bit like one of the early Classic Space ships. There's a big pirate ship as well apparently.

Liking the skycrane heli from the artic theme a possible purchase there but thats it for city other than the train station. I am disappointed with the cargo train the yellow current one is far superior especially with regard to the wagons.

Will the icebreaker float in real water with a weight like the old boats?

Will the icebreaker float in real water with a weight like the old boats?

No idea if it'll have a specialized weight brick (probably not), but that hull is designed to float on water, as is pretty much any set that includes it.
  • nkx1nkx1 Member Posts: 719
The icebreaker is the ship pictured above, correct? If so, then yes, it floats (as Aanhir stated). It's the same hull piece as the Coast Guard Patrol boat in set #60014 and various other boat sets. Unless it's really top-heavy, I doubt a weight would be needed. The hull has those wing-type protrusions on the bottom, so that should stabilize it fairly well.

Reeeally NOT liking those new Stormtrooper helmets. Makes them look like Ol' Melted Face himself, Harry Redknapp.
And I don't need an army of Melt-face Harry chasing down the rebels, telling me how 'top top' everything is.

    Awful trooper design.

    For picture, see:

^^I get the feeling that the 'Rebels' ships are supposed to hark back to the 70s/80s style of sci-fi toys at the same time as looking like they could fit in with the Ep IV-VI universe.

Agreed on the new Stormtrooper mold. Just awful. That styling might be ok for the show but not for Lego. Ugliness and not being able to combine him with the Stormies from other sets alone place this set firmly in the 'Only if it is 50% off' category. And I even kinda like the Ghost, looks like a fun build.
  • rancorbaitrancorbait Member Posts: 1,842
    @plasmodium That's because Ep IV-VI was 70s/80s style :o)

^Well, of course. :-P But what I meant is that it feels like they're intentionally emphasising that.

Yep! The prequels used a similar strategy, what with all the chrome and streamlining on the Naboo fleet. A bit of 50s automotive inspiration there, I think.

When I was a kid, Jar Jar didn't bother me. And he still doesn't come near the cheesiness of the scene in Episode II where C-3PO gets his head switched with a battle droid and ends up with a split personality. Even at eleven years old that seemed stupid and out-of-place. At least Jar Jar was a dedicated slapstick/comic relief character, so his dopey and careless hijinks made sense for him.

I'd say 40's. There is a lot of that in the prequels, not just in the vehicles. The Naboo fighter pilots look straight out of an old WW2 film reel. It helps explain why the next generation look all 70's.

@rancorbait yep, definitely happy to see the film sets keeping to the more realistic stormy helmet.

On the whole these OT sets look to have taken a huge step closer toward movie accurate colour schemes, a step i didn't even imagine possible. Those Snowtroopers look amazingly movie-accurate (a bit of a shame they make my older ones look so dated, but that's to be expected - although, already having the last AT-AT, i'll be passing this one anyway. Just too much other stuff to save for, Sea Cow, Orthanc, etc.

I also really like the 'hammerhead' mold. I'll definitely hope for a film-version fig, or will try to pick him up separately to add to the cantina.

It's a shame the dewback looks to be a solid piece with no articulation points, but it does certainly convey a nice sense of 'heft' to it's shape, which is nice.

Yeah at 90 dollars I will be waiting for the Creator Cafe and Bike Shop to be on sale.
At least it is a set that looks like an exclusive but hopefully will not be (judging by the box art, it is not).
That Heartlake shopping center, if it stays at 110 is not bad at all. I think for 110 bucks it looks pretty robust.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
I'm liking the Cantina more and more. Looks like a fun and diverse build. Also the $70 price point means that it might eventually go on sale for $50. It will definitely require a few more minifigs to make it complete though.

The Cantina is definitely better than the previous version of this location. The architecture is very convincingly Tatooine, showing the same level of artistry as other recent settings like #75017, #9516, and #10236.

I'm not totally sold on the new dewback, though. I can fully appreciate that specialized parts are needed for a lot of LEGO creatures to make them appropriately lifelike. And I love the more realistic scale of the recent Dino theme compared to the 2001 Dinosaurs theme. But I miss the old dinosaur/creature parts that could be reused for a diverse range of creatures, rather than needing separate molds for each new animal at that scale. The dewback and elephant were great examples of those parts' versatility.

What's the big ship in the 5th Star Wars picture? Loving the Cantina, though.

It's the Jedi Scout Ship from the Old Republic line I believe.

I frankly love the Cantina set, and will probably buy it asap. I like the Dewback, the size of the set is pretty large, and the minifigs are top notch. I wish they could have added more to the Cantina itself and another minifig or two and ditched the Landspeeder, but it's understandable why they put it in there(to give the kids some swoosh factor). It definitely does need more denizens. If they did a "Cantina Battlepack" with Dr. Evazan, Ponda Baba, Momaw Nadon, and another, and an add-on section, you know this would fly off the shelves, and boost sales of the Cantina as well. Ahh wishful thinking...(daydreams)

As a mere filthy casual vis a vis Star Wars, I have no idea what that red ship is but it is boss and I want one. The Cantina also looks very appealing to me.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,788
My one criticism about the Cantina is where are the patrons?
Sure, you get Luke, Obi-Wan, Han, and Greedo (and the band members). but I would have liked to see a couple of the aliens as well but that is just me

  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
^ Well, you know we were never going to get a full cantina. At least not at a $70 price point. As it is I think it works as a diorama to display minifigs from your collection.

Well, it's still better than the old one, which omitted the Bith band but otherwise had the same figs. The only other characters that I think are probably really important to this scene are the two who were bullying Luke at the bar and the Imperial spy dude with the goggles (I am too lazy to look up their names at the moment). And of course the barkeep — the level of detail behind the bar makes his omission rather conspicuous.

I guess it is a bit of a shame they aren't included since there isn't really any other scene that could include them without making this one redundant. But I don't think it's really a big enough set to warrant more than eight minifigures.

I guess this could have maybe been expanded and divided into two sets. One could include Han, Greedo, the band, and some of the missing patrons. The other could include the landspeeder, the moisture vaporator, the dewback, Luke, Obi-Wan, the Sandtrooper, and maybe even the droids. But you'd still be really pushing it with the minifigure counts in that case. There's not a whole lot of expansion you can do for the cantina without it becoming repetitive, and likewise there's only so much scenery you could add to the exterior scene to justify three to five figs and a non-brick-built creature. Beyond that, you'd be effectively cutting Luke and Obi-Wan out of a pretty important scene for them, which might reduce the cantina set's appeal as a stand-alone purchase (Han and maybe Chewie would be the only main characters in the set).
  • jediami65jediami65 Member Posts: 474
The cantina set: I would have preferred more figures or more parts towards the Cantina itself than the Landspeeder though over all it is buy for me, I do not own the old one so this is a good start.

What color is the landspeeder? Is that Nougat?
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
They should just make a couple Cantina Battle Packs to get some of the extra characters. Or a SW CMF series would be great =)

I believe it is Bricklink's "flesh" color. The same color as the garage door in The Simpsons House.

Yes, sorry, whenever I see/hear nougat I think of the medium dark flesh color on Bricklink. But, you're right. The LEGO Nougat maps to Bricklink's Flesh. The Medium Nougat maps to Medium Dark Flesh.

Other than Duplo and pigs, it's a pretty rarely used color. Mmmmaybe its use here and in the Simpsons house could be a harbinger of more widespread use to come?

I'm not a fan of the new speeder either. I somehow prefer the ones without stickers for the engines. They used some creativity (OK, just a different part) to make the engine look burnt out. Now it just seems to be slap another sticker on it to make it look different.

@Pitfall69 FBTB has some good photos of the cantina set, including greedo.

Unlike the vast majority of the OT figs, which seem to be super-detailed for extra film accuracy (check out those star destroyer figs, printed stormy legs, officer caps, etc), Greedo appears more 'old school' in his design and is therefore quite basic by comparison. The printing, where it appears, is finely detailed (leg holster, jacket), but no arm printing, and the blue of his jacket/legs seems quite vibrant, rather than washed-out.

I don't have the original, so this will be my only Greedo, but the colour palette of the original seems more precise, and I would like to have seen the arms printed again.

I don't know who said it, but yeah, the Bar having no barman is an odd gap... looks like I might need to buy that TMNT mutation chamber (he'd work as a barman).

Adding the bartender would create a rather dull exclusive Minifigure unlikely to be included in any other set. IMO, it's just not worth it. But $70 is plenty expensive to make something worthwhile and not just Minifigures and random pieces in some vague semblance of an open room. I would have killed for just a Bag End type treatment. If they're catering to the kids, then drop the band and provide them another couple bad guys. If they're catering to us, drop the speeder and give us a real building. Catering to somewhere in the middle simply fails both. You can get playability while not juniorizing a Star Wars set. Jabba's Palace, Jabba's skiff, Tie Fighter, Rancor are all splendid sets. There are so few buildings in Star Wars LEGO, just ships and 600 types of scooters. When they actually decide to make a building, I would prefer they put in a little more effort than they've done with either Mos Eisley or the multiple Hoth sets or the pitiful cloud city or or the geonosis caves.

^ I'd still say we were diddled with Jabba's beach hut. The place is tiny - I made a bigger one out of 2 sets and it is just about big enough for Jabba to swing his tail in.

That's the point, though. Bar Keeper. Rancor Keeper. Same difference. Those single-scene characters have no chance to be included anywhere else, but bring the locations alive, otherwise the sets just become lifeless backdrops for the umpteenth superfluous Luke & Ben's fabulous road trip.

For me, drop Luke & Ben & speeder (give 'em their own set if needs be, preferably featuring SandPeople and Banthas), and let's include the rancor keepers, barkeepers and ponda babas of the universe. :o)

The problem is that this is the scene where Luke and Ben go into a bar and ...

What is the point of the set if it doesn't have two of the main characters from the scene in it? It is then no longer stand alone. I'm sure if you speak to most kids that have seen SW, or their parents or grandparents that are buying the set, they remember Luke and Ben going in, some rude aliens at the bar, the band, Han Solo shooting some other alien. They might remember what Greedo looks like. The other aliens? Mainly human-like bodies with funny heads.

They don't want to have to buy another set to enable their kid to play with a large one missing the key characters.

I guess it's a question of whether every set should be standalone resulting in a thousand Lukes which is equally pointless as an individual set with no Luke.

I think it's an argument no one can win, because on one hand you have the multi-set buyers ending up with a thousand clones at the expense of a lack of some other important characters (I'd call a barman a rather important character in a bar personally) to the scene and on the other hand you have the single-set buyers ending up without the key characters.

Or Lego could just stop being stingy and throw the barman in because let's face it the impact of another minifigure in such a set on profits would probably be pretty negligible in the grand scheme of things.
