Not sure where to bring this up, it seems that when I posted 21 reviews in quick succession from my backlog of typed reviews for the site I must have overloaded it or something because the site is not actually showing all of the reviews I posted to other members. I see them just fine, they're even on the site, but when you go to every review written by me or the recent reviews list a large percentage of them don't appear to have gone live for everyone to see.

If this is a problem with posting too many reviews within a given hour or timeframe then I suppose it's my own fault, but just thought to bring it up.

Also, did LEGO Pirates Brickmaster, LEGO Castle Brickmaster, LEGO Star Wars Brickmaster first release always have no Minifigures listed for them? Or the Nexo Knights Character Encyclopedia from last year? My count has gone from 2013 to 2009 over the weekend and I have no idea where I lost some Minifigures. If this is duplicate data being corrected on the site that'd be great, but since I was offline for the whole weekend I can't really track down where the Minifigures owned discrepancy occurred.

There was something a bit odd with the database query. I think they are appearing now.

It looks as if BrickLink has renumbered those books so the link between us and them has broken. I'll sort it out when I get a mo'.
  • OdeinoichusOdeinoichus Member Posts: 361
All the books with very few exceptions now no longer list Minifigures.

I just went to add #5005359 to my collection. Typing in 50053, or more characters, into the search box doesn't show it in the list of results.

    But it's in the database:

I've yesterday noticed quite a number of things don't show up in the general search box anymore (mostly "gear", like keychains and all that jazz that isn't in the 5-number range).

'Gear' is currently excluded from the drop-down list: I hate the stuff :)

However, the frame has arguably been incorrectly categorised given it contains a minifgure, so I've moved it somewhere more appropriate. I'll appear in the drop-down tomorrow once the data has been crunched overnight.

@Huw   Not really a site issue but I was wondering why the new train #60198 has an arctic tag and a snowmobile tag attached to it?
  • oldtodd33oldtodd33 Member Posts: 2,728
OK, I see the snowmobile now. I assume the logo is an arctic logo.

I feel as though it should have because indeed, one of the pieces of cargo is a snowmobile with the Arctic Expedition colors and logo.

My time zone preferences set themselves to UTC -5 Eastern Time at some point - I only noticed just now when the time stamp on the new modular announcement was wrong. I’ve not been into preferences for ages so fairly sure I didn’t do it...

Sorting my sets owned by 'Date Added' doesn't seem to work by any way I can think of.

While the 20 top ones are mostly amongst the most recent sets I've added to my 'sets owned' (although not in that order at all), there's also #10185 Green Grocer in there, which I added about 5 years ago! And #70618 was my third most-recent set I've added as 'owned', but it's down at something like 34th, and my most recent addition (#5004932) is at 36th.

    I don't understand how it's sorting them?

EDIT: I suspect it's by when they were added to the database, rather than when they were added to my 'owned' list, but that doesn't explain why Green Grocer is in the middle of the 2018 sets, unless maybe the listing was updated in some way this year?
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,116
Date added is indeed the date added to the database. The date is changed if the image is refreshed which might explain the greengrocer.

Why would date added get updated for an image refresh? Shouldn’t it be locked down once the record for the set is created?
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,116
Ideally yes, but for historical reasons the field is also used in this way.

There is also a date updated field which should be used but isn't...

So, could “Date Added” just be changed to “Date Updated” in the interfaces, leaving the underlying “historical” arrangement intact?

Is anyone else having a problem with the Shop tab on the Site updates part of the home page. Mine still has Tantive IV as the newest item in the shop from the 5 May:

  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,116
The affiliate product feed we read that data from has not been updated yet which is a bit annoying but there's nothing we can do about it.
  • klintonklinton Member Posts: 1,256
It no longer recognizes minifigs in sets. You can search for individual minifigs, but it can't identify which set(s) they're from. Nor does it include minifigs in sets in your collection count.
  • Lego_StarLego_Star Member Posts: 2,144
    @Huw

    Please can you help?

Yep, like @klinton said. In my minifigure count on the main page only the loose figures I bought seperately to sets are shown in my total. None of the figures from sets I own are shown.

Set pages no longer have their minifigs tab.

This was definitely ok on Saturday since I was trying to identify minifig parts. I don't know if it was working yesterday, I wasn't looking up stuff then.

Something wrong with a script that ran last night, maybe?

Thank you for the notification regarding the minifigures, which appear to have become disconnected from their respective sets. I have contacted @Huw so hopefully he can help.

Thanks for getting it fixed!  I think I used it more in the last 10 mins to check which iron men I have than I’ve ever even looked at the minifig feature pulling from sets.  Nice work!

I noticed today that the page for #5005822, the Mustang key chain, claims the item is not available or listed at BrickLink, but of course, here it is:

That';s because we have given it a -1 suffix and they haven't. I can add an entry to a lookup table to sort it and will do so when I get a mo'.

Does anyone know how the ‘date added to your collection’, or even just the ‘date added’ sorts work on the site?  I’ve tried both on my sets owned, thinking it would be interesting to see the order I’ve purchased sets in.  Recent purchases (this year) seem to show fairly accurately but the farther back you go, the less accurate the sort gets.  Obviously it only works if you’re diligent about adding a set to your collection once you get it, and I am, so I’m curious if there are other factors affecting the sort beyond ticking the I own 1 of this set box.  Or does it work perfectly for everyone?
  • AstrobricksAstrobricks Member Posts: 5,555
I know for me there are two factors that come into play for older purchases:
1 - I added a lot of sets all at once when I really started using BS as my database.
2 - The further back I go, the foggier my memory about when and in what order I purchased them.

The date itself is not recorded to keep the database size manageable (there are >10 million rows in the collection table)

The rows have a sequential ID field so 'date added to your collection' uses this to order them. However if you've marked a set as wanted then marked it as owned then the existing row will be used so it's not foolproof.

'Date Added' is the date the set was added to the database.

So if I read that right, if sorting by ‘date added to your collection’ is important to you, you should never mark a set as wanted?
    M1J0E
  • HuwHuw Administrator Posts: 7,116
Simple answer, yes, but there might be circumstances when it doesn't matter.

Thanks muchly Astro & Huw both for explains how it all works.  I’m sure I have the same two factors at work as Astro for older purchases, but more importantly I wondered if ‘your collection’ might include wanted sets, and indeed as Huw said, though I still have some anomalies, in most cases where a set appears earlier in the order than when I thought I bought it, it’s because that set had probably been in my wanted list since it was released, yet I couldn’t purchase it then.

Thanks Huw for maintaining a 10 million row database for all of us!  This site is probably the most valuable resource on the internet for an AFOL, between the set information on the site itself, the ability to use it to manage your own collection, and the forums.

Now here’s an interesting question then.   Not that it much matters now that I understand how the system works, but rather than never marking a set as wanted, could you unmark it from wanted to clear/reset the sequential ID field, wait until the database updates (overnight or whenever it does) then add it in again as owned?

Yes, it tidies things up overnight, so that would work.

Since a week or so when I visit Brickset on my mobile (iPhone 7) I get a warning that this site is not safe and I have to go through a captcha process before I can go to the main site. What’s going on here? I also get safety warnings when I’m on my laptop (Firefox).

Can you send me screenshots or more info?

When I go to the Amazon discount page, I'm only seeing 1 set:

I was worried it was because my "Wanted" list had been wiped, but it hasn't. And if I remove "Wanted", I am given a selection of 3 microfighters and a Rogue One battlepack.

Had the same issue myself and was informed that it should resolve itself when the data is gathered again at 8pm. (Which it has, should have looked before posting).  :)

On the main site, the #70847 is listed as being $999.00. I'm pretty sure it should be just $9.99.

Not just the sparkle babies. There seems to be an issue with a lot of sets.
Nearly had a heart attack at the Amazon listings this morning with virtually everything at 99% off until I noticed the retail prices. @Huw ?

Since yesterday I have an issue on Safari on macOS that any pages in the browse section only load partially because the personal collection stats in the header never finish loading and for some reason prevents parts of the content never being loaded.

It works perfectly fine in Chrome, having the identical extensions/plugins installed and running.

    Anyone having the same issue?

What about other parts of the site that are loaded via ajax/javascript, such as the sets/shop/more section on the home page?

I'm wondering if there's some Javascript that runs everywhere else OK but not Safari.

Or it could just be a transient issue caused by database timeouts or something.
  • klintonklinton Member Posts: 1,256
It's doing that thing again where it doesn't acknowledge your minifigs that are in sets.
  • benbacardibenbacardi Member Posts: 712
In Safari, I have found that if I click one of the JavaScript-based tabs too soon (such as Images or Description), it'll just sit with the spinner forever and never load the content. I haven't noticed if that's related to not yet having loaded my personal collection stats, I'll check that out next time..
