Hello,

Just spotted an advert for The Lego Show 2014 at the O2 Arena;

http://www.theo2.co.uk/event/the-lego-show-20140509.html

There's not a lot of details on the site, anybody know any more about it?

Mike.

Try looking at something like this, from @silentmode, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34U6IAE3TXU

or google is your friend "Lego Show 2012 Manchester"

"The LEGO® Show is relocating to The O2 in London after two successful years in Manchester. The three day show, which will run from 9 - 11 May, will be the largest LEGO® event in the UK, and is the only show in the country to feature the best LEGO® fan builders and professional LEGO® artists.

A great day out for all the family, the show will be packed full of interactive features including workshops with professional brick builders, LEGO® Designers; the Brick marketplace with new and second hand LEGO® products for sale; and amazing displays by LEGO® fans from around the world. With fantastic themed areas the show aims to inspire and motivate, and allow attendees to immerse themselves in the product and build their own constructions."

I'm a bit disappointed they're relocating to London/the South. Though glad to see it's popular.

Likewise, it always seemed to very busy and attracted a lot of attention in Manchester.

Perhaps it's just due to the fact that London is an obvious move to further develop the show. I look forward to the official announcement, and any comments from @warrenelsmore on the move down south.

I wouldn't mind them yo-yo-ing the show if it meant them being able to do it every year but easier to get to for people at the extremes. So 2014 South, 2015 North, 2016 South, etc. Although no doubt it will be London, get good attendances, and stay there.

This news has made my week, I was hoping that the LEGO Show would return, and only a couple of hours away from me this time!

Do we know yet whether AFOLcon will be making a (long-awaited) return?
  • LegoboyLegoboy Member Posts: 8,825
    £13 per adult
    £7 per child
    £50 per family (??)
    £35 per person per weekend

£38 per VIP (an hour early)

I wonder if they'll be an AFOLCON included somehow.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
That's bizarre pricing. Unless you are taking along four or more kids from the same family.

Someone just tried to book and saying its sold out. Surely this cannot be the case. Or this it more the fact its not actually released yet.
  • BooTheMightyHamsterBooTheMightyHamster Member Posts: 1,528
I've just tried to book, and the adult and VIP tickets are indeed showing as unavailable, but child tickets are still on sale.
Doesn't sound right - might give the o2 a call.

No need for anyone to panic, I'm sure it's just a glitch with the ticket system.

some friends purchased tickets yesterday through o2 priority if anyone has that
  • orodesorodes Member Posts: 95
^Might just be that people who have O2 priority can purchase tickets a week or 2 before everyone else.

Hi all! Sorry for the delay in response, I've been in the US this last week and we've had alot of last minute changes too.

Tickets are on limited release right now which will be why some of you might have had problems. They should go onto general sale this week.

AFOLCON is back too - the website for that is up at www.afolcon.com. The public facing website (www.thelegoshow.com) will be up soon. There are details of exhibiting etc there as well. If you've got any other questions though, just let me know!

Unfortunately due to things happening around that date I've been refused time off on those three days, which if I'm honest I kind of expected.

If it happens again next year, I really hope it's the week after (i.e. the 13th - 17th May), otherwise I won't be able to go again! :(

The O2 website is saying they are all sold out , I tied to get some 2 hours after the general release, but couldn't get a family ticket, or any of the standard priced tickets for Saturday or Sunday. will they be releasing more tickets or can you buy them on the door?
  • greekmickgreekmick Member Posts: 710
General sale starts 4pm on Monday

Tickets all booked although doesn't seem to give options for child or family tickets. Strange!
  • warrenelsmorewarrenelsmore Member Posts: 77
We changed the ticketing based on feedback on the preview tickets. We want to make sure as many people as possible can experience The LEGO Show so there is now only one type of ticket - an entrance ticket, for a set session.

They are now on general sale, so get 'em whilst they're hot!

Have to say the pricing has stopped me from taking my wife and daughter with us and I know of two families who I mentioned the show to who refused to pay that much for a couple of hours viewing. Would have been nice to encourage kids and families to visit together really being that's the whole point of LEGO.
  • BooTheMightyHamsterBooTheMightyHamster Member Posts: 1,528
Sorry @warrenelsmore - if I'm paying £15 to get into an exhibition, I'm not going to have someone tell me that I have to leave after 3 hours.
I was looking forward to this, but I won't be attending this or any future events while you maintain this ridiculous ticketing policy.
  • DanGPDanGP Member Posts: 66
£15 for three hours does seem pretty steep for both adults and kids. I promised my 8 year old nephew that I'd take him but as he's autistic I need someone else with me. For three people that's going to cost me £53 plus travel and food. Might have to sleep on it.
  • playwellplaywell Member Posts: 2,280
What happens to the people that paid £13 before the change, do they get an all day pass or have to pick a time slot?
  • UKtsumiUKtsumi Member Posts: 630
theres 4 of us thats £69.75 , I was hoping to make a day of it as we have a long way to come, making a "time slot" has put me off too.
  • UKtsumiUKtsumi Member Posts: 630
^ I hate to be the one to say it but it just looks like they are trying to sell 3 times the amount of tickets and at a higher cost, or maybe its a way to allow more people to see the show without having to pay silly prices on the ticket resale sites ?
Just would have been nice to have these new tickets at a lower price, seeing as your only getting a few hours.

The more I think about it the more I feel I've been conned. If I hadn't promised him we would go after seeing adverts I wouldn't have bothered. Sad as it's left a bad taste in my mouth now and not as excited as I was last week about going to my first show.
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
@warrenelsmore: on the website it says if you buy an Afolcon ticket, you get access to the Lego Show too. Is that a full day ticket or a session ticket (for each day or just once?)

Also, The Lego Show ticketing website says that the session tickets are for a place in the theatre or full tour (or something like that). Am I right in assuming that's just generic wording and at the show we'll be able to wander round freely rather than on a tour? If not, how will the timed sessions be enforced?

Lastly, I like others am a bit disappointed about no family tickets and timed sessions. I've been encouraging my brother and his family to come down but it'll cost them over £100 once train travel to London is factored in :-(
  • dfurndfurn Member Posts: 199
I'm also in a similar position to those above. I'd promised my son we'd go so had no alternative to get tickets or risk upset. The fact that we will be herded out like sheep (I presume) after three hours isn't something I'm looking forward to at all. I expect the organisers will have a cross bunch of people on their hands.

I note @warrenelsmore states they are doing it this way "based on feedback". Really? I'd be surprised if anyone had said they want to do it this way. I appreciate The Lego Show is not a charity and costs have to be met and so on, but I feel this change won't be generally welcomed at all.
  • greekmickgreekmick Member Posts: 710
Agreed @dfurn I cannot imagine for one minute feedback mentioned increasing child and family ticket prices and to suggest that was the case is crazy. I understand the O2 is not cheap to hire out and costs have to be met but surely based on per head the spend would be more if staying all day other than a few hours.
  • orodesorodes Member Posts: 95
I was really hoping to go to this event, but after buying a ticket for the show and then the travel costs added on to that it would cost about £50 to go, is only being aloud there for about 3 hours really worth it? I doubt it very much.
  • warrenelsmorewarrenelsmore Member Posts: 77
    So...

Those of you that have all day tickets from the pre-sale - yes, these are still valid, for the whole day. The O2 will be communicating that out shortly. And yes, AFOLCON tickets give you access to all 5 days - everything, every session, all the evening activities etc. That's the ticket aimed at AFOLs, because I know you'll want to spend more than 3 hours in the show! Remember as well that if you display or volunteer for the weekend - that ticket is FREE.

We changed the ticketing because we had a lot of interest in the pre-sale and we also have a lot of people who want to display. There are *many many* rules about what space we can use, vs the number of people in the venue at any one time. Whilst the 02 has 20,000 seats - we obviously can't use that area to display MOCs or have play areas!
From our 2011 and 2012 shows, the majority of visitors only stayed for around 3hrs so moving to sessions means that we can put in as much content and let as many people see it as possible. We dropped family tickets and simplified it to one ticket type for the same reason.

UKTsumi is right - We *really* don't want people to have to buy tickets on re-sale sites if the show sells out, which it would otherwise it had a real chance to do. That doesn't help anyone as the prices for those can be crazy. That, and sadly London is just an expensive place to do anything :-(
  • playwellplaywell Member Posts: 2,280
Hi warren elsmore thanks for getting back to us all, for me part of the problem has been the lack on information, we didn't know when they went on sale the other week that it was an early bird thing and that prices might go up or things changed. I could have got a day ticket for £13 then but just missed out because by the time I had picked a day and worked out if anyone would come with me the tickets had gone. Yesterday the only way to get a day ticket was to buy a VIP ticket and Saturday was already sold out for this so I got one for Friday as they looked to be selling out too which they did. But with the website for the lego show not up I have no idea what I have got for my £38 + £4 + £2.50. The hour early thing does not seem that great if you can be there all day anyway. It says you get a reserved seat in Theatre, is this a real thing? I thought you would just be walking around. But I did not have any information to make an informed decision and with the tickets selling out I did not want to miss out like I did the week before with the early tickets. Now I feel like I have paid £45 in all for something I could have got for £17 in all last week. The goodie bag better be good! But I do understand that these might be first year in the O2 problems and you will learn a lot for next year. None of us want to pay over the odds if they sell out but I have paid over the odds anyway as for most people a 5 day AFOLCON is not an option and we just want to send one whole day there.

    Thanks

    Stephen

I'm new here despite being an AFOL for many a year & don't want to start off with a negative post but I am disappointed to learn that my ticket will only be valid for 3 hours, when I questioned my other half about this (she purchased tickets yesterday) she said there were no options for a full day ticket only session tickets as the VIPs had all gone, they is no info on the Lego show website to gain any further information but obviously 3 hours is not going to be enough for us to look at everything... this policy is not only going to cause massive problems on the day it is also going to discourage people from attending any future shows if they are asked to leave before seeing everything, this is a bad call taking peoples money without providing them with enough info to make a judgement call due to lack of info on the website I will have to spent at least 2& half hours travelling to London to be told you have 3 hours then you need to get out, I was thrilled yesterday when she said she had tickets but to learn this today makes me feel like we have been conned a bit

sorry for first post rant but it had to be said

I think the biggest problem with the whole system, besides the obviously overpriced tickets is that people just don't know what to expect yet, the website for the show should have surely been showing basic information(besides the dates) before the tickets went on sell?

Also why do people now have to pay close to £45 for the all day ticket when others who bought it only a few days earlier pay £17, please tell me how that's fair

that's my point you can't buy any full day tickets at any price and there's not enough info to make judgement about having only 3 hours & will it be enough time & justified for the cost of not only the ticket price but the cost of travel etc etc
  • gold682gold682 Member Posts: 257
Have to agree it's a bad decision to time limit people, especially when you are paying a premium for the ticket in the first place on top of travel plans. It's being "sold" as a "great day out".....well 3 hours ain't a day in my book. Unfortunately, I have now decided my family won't be attending due to the time contraints imposed.
  • alexwilalexwil Member Posts: 376
How disappointing, £45 for 3 of us to get in is bad enough, limited to only 3 hours. No thanks.

Such a shame, the organizers have clearly misjudged this one big time!
