Seemed like a good idea at the time, but I started gathering parts from my own bins, and bricklinking bits here and there for the
#10196 Grand Carousel. I could never justify spending the amount of money that a BNISB set costs, and I'm happy with a few substitutions here and there. I don't care for the sound brick either so that saves £100 on Bricklink.
Anyway.....
Most of the parts are easily found (relatively) but the one thing I can't do without are the 8 fabric panels, part 85195. Currently only 6 are available on Bricklink for £27 each.... again, no thanks. I want to make my own. I'll be experimenting with a few different materials, but what I need is a precise template to cut to.
Are there any
#10196 owners out there who could provide me with an accurate template? Could you pop one of the triangular panels on a scanner with a piece of dark paper behind it and email me a file? Or trace around the outside of one with a pencil on a piece of paper and send it via snail mail? I'd be eternally grateful. If I can't make my own panels, I'll be wasting my time gathering all the bricks, and I don't want to start spending big on Bricklink to have an unfinished project at the end of it.
If anyone can help, please give me a PM.
Thanks

He commissioned a company to create a like-for-like of the originals (or thereabouts).
were you able to produce a look a like replica? Is it hard to find the exact fabric?
I believe the material may be called broadcloth, but a google search does give quite a wide definition of this.
I've worked in the graphics arts industries for many years and I know that there are textured papers that are similar - pros; very cheap - cons; not tear resistant. It all depends if you need it to be exact. Hopefully someone with a little more experience will chime in with the correct solution.
I sourced some Tyvek sheets which is a lightweight synthetic paper, like very thin plastic which will work for me in the absence of the real thing.
Resurrecting an old thread that I had bookmarked in case one day I would want to bricklink the Grand Carousel… that day has arrived, those fabric pieces didn’t get any cheaper, it now cost 3x the RRP of #1096 just for a full set of 8 on BrickLink.
Thank to @iso3200 's template, I created mine today after browsing the fabric shop. I put my pieces on the similar background than the picture above and I think the transparency is quite close to the original. The pieces are not perfect.. but the price is
I also removed the scary sounding music brick and attached a non-Lego music box. Sounds way better.
