The Discussion of..."Compatible Non-Lego Brand products"?

I am not here to discourage/encourage discussion or mention any products of a competitor company, but what do the general rules say about them? Example, if I ever think about talking about them at all, should I mention any names discreetly in an open/new thread or is it better to take the conversation elsewhere?
