** Notice of forum closure 4th November 2023 **
The forum will be closing in November.
Unfortunately, Higher Logic, the service provider, is not able to reduce our annual fee, and in fact is not able to offer the service at the current fee, either.
It seems the platform is nowadays primarily intended as a means for multinationals to interact with their customers so is priced accordingly, about 3x what we are currently paying, so far exceeding anything that I can justify given the level of use.
I am told that they are willing to assist with data export so I'm hopeful that the discussions can at the very least be ressurected in read-only format elsewhere, and perhaps a new forum can be started from scratch. I will look at options.
I know this will be disappointing for many of you and not the news you wanted to hear. I'm sorry it's come to this.

Honestly, I think knowing for sure will help move us in a new direction more effectively than it being a mystery.
I’ve spent eleven great years here and will miss it dearly.
I hope we can find a platform to continue the legacy this forum has created and continue to cultivate a wonderful community of like minded people.
Thanks @Huw for fronting the cost of this for so long.
Fingers crossed we can migrate elsewhere. Fwiw, having been forced into using discord, it might not be the correct kind of forum format for many, but it may provide a workable environment to discuss the search for alternatives?
It basically is this forum's set up right now, i think photos require 3rd party hosting...and i believe it is free. After this forum ends you might even be able to give it the same name
The biggest obstacle is how to make it relevant with everyone spread so thin around the internet. For the most part, many forums just become a data base for past thoughts and opinions. Forums need to stay current to foster the best discussions. Which brings us back to the main topic...is Lego still exciting, fresh and interesting to draw new discussions with new guests? I dont know that answer.
Just a quick enquiry but is there any news on if or where the forum would be moving too.
I still visit 2-3 times a day even though I don't post so much these days but would like to move to wherever we end up.
Hopefully we can have something more concrete here soon!
Please message me directly if that describes you at all!

And then beyond that, if you have an account, how do you find the Brickset Lego discussion server? Do you have to be invited in?
We would link the Discord Server Invite Link to the main page in place of the current Brickset Forum option.
We will almost certainly NOT be using roles outside of Admins/Mods for Discord. maybe we would consider roles for something like Brickset Secret Santa. But even then, there isn't really a need for them.
I can certainly understand and appreciate that this option feels more restrictive than the current forum option. I'm not saying it's the perfect solution and know that we will inevitably lose out on some individuals joining us or transferring over. While I want to eliminate that as much as possible, I certain know that it's just the reality of what is happening.
My perspective is that, regardless of where we transfer, we will lose members. And, seeing as the current forum has been on a decline for it's user base, my hope is something new might bring in some additional members. I'm not saying a traditional forum format is bad or can't be jumpstarted again. I'm just wondering if it's time for a change.
My opinion and thoughts are not the end-all-be-all of the conversation, however. I don't pretend to be in charge of things. I'm just trying to get us at least something rather than nothing as this community has done a lot for me over the last several years.
I think if we move to Discord and realize that it's a disaster, we can still make a transition back to a traditional forum. The people who are committed will remain committed through several changes (I hope).
I'd just ask that people be open to considering this particular option.
