Not everyone selling them can possibly be crooks though... Some sellers just look like regular people selling a few other various items... Like this one here http://www.ebay.com/itm/121259220442 Even the regular auctions that have ended that had bidders have only been going for around $260... These people have to be going in the hole... http://www.ebay.com/itm/281249113948

Then again, maybe some of them had VIP points saved up and used them to make their purchase...
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
not necessarily. about $30 in total fees if seller has the discount, about $15-$20 to ship. that leaves $10-20 in profit, plus $10 in VIP points. not necessarily worth the time, but not losing money. some people look at it and say "hey, $30 for throwing a box in a box and slapping a label on isn't bad"

Yeah - they could be trying to convert their VIP points to cash I suppose. Or Just people trying to make a quick $20.

For the hassle and risk on ebay, not worth $20 for me. lol
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110

How in the Hell are these people on Ebay making any money selling the Simpson house with free shipping for $265..? That seems to be the going price..

There is $37 in Ebay and Paypal fees there not to mention about $20 to ship it...

They are most likely using stolen credit card info to purchase them (either by [email protected] or in the stores). Nobody in their right mind is going to sell them that low when they have to pay taxes, fees and shipping.

while there are no doubt some of that, I suspect most of them are legit. people can make a small profit at that price. $20/set is worth it to some for doing quick flips

At $260, even if they have some type of discount(which most of them don't) and only pay $30 in fees and another $15 for shipping(depending on the location it could be a few dollars more) That still leaves them right back to where they started with a $215 purchase and all they are getting is the 10$ in VIP points for the money they spent...

This wouldn't be worth my time, but I guess people will do anything for a buck...

I don't understand why people would pay extra at ebay.

Why wouldn't people just wait till Feb 1st and get it for $200 OR just sign up for VIP status and buy it from Lego [email protected]?

sales taxes are not universal and some sellers have exemptions. I for one, live in a zero sales tax state

^Yup, I will choose #71006 over #10243 any day but will hopefully be getting both this year.

Parisian has more sophisticated details. It really shows esp. when placed side by side. If not for the brand name and the nostalgic value for generation X-ers, The Simpsons House is really "meh" in terms of its design.

Anyway both 71006 and 10243 are on my buy list this year for different reasons.

I was just using 7.5% as an average... I know New York and Cali are the highest.. Mine is 6%

It's not really my place to name the company but a friend who has absolutely no interest in Lego, has been given a Simpsons house along with a few of his colleagues. May explain the few on eBay selling at just above RRP?

#71006 was on our doorstep when we got home this evening. My wife was surprised by the size of the actual box. This will make for a great weekend build.

My exact thoughts but the actual Simpsons house is also extremely lacking in any architectural detail, it could've been much better but even then it would still lack any sort of nice detail, to me it just looks like an average house built by a kid in the 1980's when parts were limited.

I have no complaints about the inside, it looks brilliant, the figures too.

Having seen them side by side it seems to look even worse.

^ I don't know about you, but I was a child of the 80's and my houses looked nothing like the Simpsons house. Mine were far too colourful and, well, blocky :)

There are actually a few houses in my town and surrounding areas that could be the model for the Simpsons house.

I think @khmellymel is referring to LEGO brick built houses, not actual houses.
  • khmellymelkhmellymel Member Posts: 1,313
Yes indeed @pharmjod, my bad! I did mean Lego built houses :)

I like the Simpsons and I like the Lego 71006. However, I won't be buying 71006 as I just don't see where it fits into my collection since I don't have a desire to collect the Lego Simpsons theme. Most of my collection consists of the large creator sets, modular buildings and architecture sets. While the Parisian Restaurant is to my modular collection as a t--d is to a punch bowl, I've still bought two 10243s.
  • piratemania7piratemania7 Member Posts: 2,146
When this first came out I was quite skeptical. The whole licensed thing, a single set versus a whole line, and I don't know, maybe just the way the house looked to me, but I must say it's amazing what a couple of weeks and some pics and reviews can do! I certainly have jumped the fence and will be picking this up as soon as I can. I'll likely keep it in the box for a long time and see what happens; until that rainy afternoon I decided to break those seals and add a nice town house to my modular block! : )
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
I bought it because it does what Olivia's house does not and that is present a full fledged "doll house". I don't even really plan on using the Simpson's figures with it. I figure my daughter eventually will enjoy it just as a play house.
  • CrowkillersCrowkillers Member Posts: 757
^ My mother bought one too for the exact same reason.. She doesn't even want the minifigs....

  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ There may be a lot of figs on the market soon enough, for just that reason. :)

In fairness, you can't compare this "full doll house" to Olivia's House, that one is $75 (and often on sale for $60. This house is $200 and not likely to be on sale any time soon, you can buy 3 Olivia's Houses for the price of this. :)
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
    ^ you just compared them

:) Yes, well... um... I'm sorry, I can't understand you on account of I don't like what you are saying. :)

I never said they could be compared per se, I simply said that the Simpsons house does what Olivia's house does not. That being stated, I have a couple of Olivia's House to combine for a more complete house one day. However, that will require significant modding and I wanted something that out of the box a little girl or boy could build and have a fully functioning play house if desired.

That is one good thing about the Simpson's House, it's pretty gender neutral.
  • msandersmsanders Member Posts: 1,017
I finished the Simpsons house yesterday it is was an excellent build. There is just so much detail in this house and lots of great play features. I have also built the Parisian restaurant as well and they are just such very different builds. People compare size, i.e. that the restaurant is much bigger, but only in height - the Simpsons house is really big in width and length. They are completely different examples of great modular houses. I really like the ability to open up the Simpsons house and play with the interior, as well as being able to remove the roof and access the interior.

excellent all round I would say and at a good price.

^ I'd put money on Bart. And Homer. :-)

I'm hoping for Milhouse, Apu, Wiggum, (Moe, Barney, Lenny, Carl but drinking link?) Burns and Smithers, Skinner, Krusty, Comic Book Guy. If they repeat the five family, then it is already over 16.

Burns and Smithers - maybe not if they do a power plant later.
Wiggum - maybe not if they do a police car later.

    ^^^good list for CMF possibilities

I'd be surprised if they didn't do some sort of variation of Bart & Homer but it does depend on possible future sets (ex. Burns & Smithers with power plant, Moe with Bar...).

A Troy McClure would be nice but I am realistic that it would never happen.

I'd love for them not to include the 6 from the house but I'm guessing they'll be there. My guesses on the other 10 are Milhouse, Krusty, Burns, Smithers, Skinner, Apu, Nelson, Moe, Wiggum and Quimby.

Some accessories: Lisa's Sax (same from series 11 jazz guy), Bart with the 3 eyed fish, doughnut and radio active bar for homer, Burns should get a doberman type dog, smithers with a clipboard tile.

I have just seen a trailer for the new Lego film and I'm sure the Simpsons house makes an appearance. Emmet is riding a large orange bike and the house just appears to block his way. Weird!

The problem if they don't do the Simpsons family is that these will not sell to the regular kid. I doubt very many non-FOLs will get the Simpsons house. And relatively rich ones at that. If they want the CMF line to be a success, it has to be aimed at kids with pocket money.

I wonder if they will go cheap with accessories. So as you say, the existing sax for Lisa. If Burns gets a dog, it will probably be the existing one rather than a new one.

I would also like to see a decent version of Santa's Little Helper and Snowball (preferably Snowball II or V).
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
If the CMFs dont include the family then LEGO will be accused of forcing kids to buy the Simpsons house, which would be out of reach for many. Would be crazy stupid from a PR point of view, plus as CCC says they need the family characters to provide an 'in' for the kids.

I used to be a huge Simpsons fan, and collected all of the Playmates toys. I've been able to resist the house fairly easily, it's a massive expense for something I'm no longer really that interested in (especially when there's so much out I already shouldn't be pursuing)...but when the CMF line comes out it's going to be very nostalgic as a former Playmates toys collector. There used to be six figures per series. For anyone speculating about the CMF line, it might be a good one to look at for ideas.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
They could also fill a whole CMF line with just Homer - regular Homer, devil, hulk, ape, radiation suit, in underpants, muu muu, sunday best, Mr Plow, spaceman, santa, etc ...

Maybe they will make a gold Mr Burns to help with sales.

This would be awesome. I'd love to see them do this just as a "gotcha" first wave and put other figs in series 2. Would be pretty funny.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
It could be completed with Isotopes mascot, Be Sharps, Pie Man, Stone Cutter, Pin Pals, and I'd love to get a "Safety Salamander".

I know they won't do them, but if Homer is relatively common in the CMF line (please be a 6!) then I'll probably moc most of them anyway.

How does the Simpsons yellow match up against the regular CMF yellow? In other words, can a Homer head work on a Sumo Wrestler body?
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
If Homer in the CMF line is anything like the poster linked to on the brickset frontpage, then I'll be waiting for the CMF series. Very nice, looking forward eyes.

Has TLG or any of the designers even commented as to why they chose the sleepy eyes to begin with?

I would also like to know. That is not at all how I picture their standard expressions so it seemed like an odd choice to lead with. Bring on the CMFs!

I imagine they must have regular versions in the CMF series, or they will simply not sell. And the CMFs will be the big sellers, not the house. Yet for the house they also need normal versions to fit in with home, yet they need them different to the CMF line. So they've gone for a little change and put the better of the two versions in the CMF line.

Well said CCC. I wonder how many kids are getting these? I only started collecting in my 20s when the playmates line of world of Springfield was released.
