I was mentally prepared for this being as much as £250 so absolutely chuffed with £179.99, can't want to build it!
  • jockosjunglejockosjungle Member Posts: 701
Pleased with the price but looking at the close-up photos it doesn't look as big as it did in the first shots we saw.

Is it a Lego Shop exclusive? I suppose not many retailers sell sets that expensive.

D'oh! The Simpsons™ House has been turned into LEGO® bricks!

Build The Simpsons™ House with detachable roof, modular design, car with dent, the famous family couch, 6 minifigures and so much more.

Recreate hilarious scenes from the classic animated TV series with The Simpsons™ House. Taken right out of Springfield, this amazing model is crammed with tons of LEGO® brick detail. Lift off the roof and open up the house to discover Homer and Marge's big family bedroom including bed and Maggie's crib, Bart's room with his skateboard and Krusty the Clown poster, Lisa's room with her favorite books, jazz poster and more, and bathroom with shower, toilet, sink and mirror. Lift off the top floor to reveal the fully-fitted kitchen with dining table, chairs, yellow and light-blue tiled floor and lots of pots, pans and other accessories. Then it's into the living room with couch and TV playing Itchy and Scratchy, purple piano and more. Next to the house is the detachable garage, complete with workbench, tool rack, vacuum cleaner, broom, toolbox, tools and the family car, complete with dent (because only in a LEGO world are dents a plus!), opening trunk and 'radioactive' bar from the nuclear power plant. Step outside onto the terrace and you'll find loads of cool items, including a grill, wheelbarrow and air conditioning unit with 'Property of Ned Flanders' decoration, sausages, 2 garden loungers, flowerpots, a shovel, 2 fruit cocktail glasses, Lisa's camera, Bart's skateboard ramp with 'El Barto' graffiti and an antenna on the roof. I was pretty sure I saw this in the earlier pictures, but this is now confirmed - solid doors! finally. The flesh color is a decent start, but I will be excited to see these become available in more colors as well.

I'm not a Simpsons fan by any means, but that has to be a contender for Set of the Year, and we're barely even a week into the year!

The figures looked MUCH better in the video. Somehow I think the photos don't do the sculpting justice.

The video was surprisingly light on details. Usually they explain every little item. But that's ok - I am excited to discover this one on my own.

I posted on the facebook thread because someone complained about the price but a licensed set at < $0.08 a piece is pretty damn good these days.

I hope that the toilet paper roll can be reversed. It is hung in the improper underhand fashion instead of the proper overhand fashion.

It looks like it can... but you might find it has a handle :/

(I am a bit of an overhang obsessive, and will change the roll so it's 'the right way' if it's underhanging in the loo at work!)

Between this and the Sea Cow, it's an easy choice of the Sea Cow. Something just isn't quite right for me. I might still get it, but it feels a step too close to a toy play set rather than lego, and a few figures are definitely off.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ My wife's ex-husband was like that, he had to have it overhang or it wasn't "right".

Me? I don't care. She's married to me and not him, coincidence? I'll leave that to you to decide! :)

Interesting mould for Maggie. It's a shame Lisa's legs are printed. I hate the skirt pieces.

    24 days!

Oh my god. I just noticed the "Property of Ned Flanders" sticker on the wheelbarrow. Too perfect.

That price point is so aggro. I see that as a decision that FOX and LEGO want this to blow up as a thing, a publicity move not just a merchandise move. At just under $199 you will see a lot more fanboy-seizure-driven impulse buys than even $249, I bet.

is this what they call tiolet humour ?

Cat owners do hang their toilet paper that way, else kitty has a good time emptying the roll ;-)

#10243 Parisian Restaurant costs £132.99 with 2469 pieces and #71006 The Simpsons House costs £179.99 with 2523. Your paying £50 just for the licence, Wow!!
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275

Am I understanding correctly that its just the house being released and then in May the line of 16 figures? If so I see this set doing that much more in sales, I mean, how many will buy it for this sole reason?
  • Wil348Wil348 Member Posts: 240
    I need this.

It looks incredible, and does the house justice! Figures look great too.

    Yes.

    What sole reason?
  • piratemania7piratemania7 Member Posts: 2,146
Sorry i didnt expand on my point, I think more people will buy it knowing this is the ONLY set available for the "theme". Its not like you can go to Walmart and buy a $10.00 set and experience the theme, no, you have to spend $199.99 (which many will) in order to get this one set. Great marketing if I do say so myself.
  • binaryeyebinaryeye Member Posts: 1,831
^ To me, this theme is completely about the minifigures. And it seems the more "normal" versions of the characters will be in the CMFs. In that regard, I think those who want the minifigures will simply wait for the CMF line. I'm sure that's why the house is being released first.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
^ I guess it depends on who is in the minifig line. If these six are repeated in the CMF line (as variants), then there are only ten new characters in the CMFs. Releasing all six (well, the family of five) as CMFs might also damage sales of this set.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ If I were LEGO, the figs in the set would be exclusive, the 16 CMFs would be new.

BTW, do we know this will be $199, or are we just guessing?

At $199, I think it will do fine. I'd be happier with less, but if they do $249, then they are nuts.

It is nice, but not that nice. They can get away with it for EV, only because that is SW, this isn't Star Wars.
  • ColoradoBricksColoradoBricks Member Posts: 1,659
@LegoFanTexas, prices are listed above were from the LEGO page, so yes $199 for it.

This set was designed by Marcos Bessa, same designer as the Ewok Village and Arkham Asylum sets. He confirms here something that caught me by surprise — the colors of the short legs and arms with short sleeves aren't printed! They're actually molded in those colors!

"New" as in new characters, or new minifigures?

I don't think it would go over well if the main characters, in some form, weren't available in the CMF line. And given that the minifigures included with the house look like variants, I think they will be.
  • AanchirAanchir Member Posts: 3,037

The toilet paper roll can arguably be reversed. It's a very simple construction — the entire roll is just a car door.

^^ If the Simpsons family are all available in the CMF line, I'll just buy them and build the car myself. Then just display that. I'm not sure I'd want the whole house on display.

I'd probably also make the car symmetric at the front. I guess the cheese slopes on the left hand side of the bonnet / hood are meant to suggest damage, but I don't think they look so good.

That's interesting. I had hoped that they had been able to print on short legs to give us some variants of trousers for kids.

Wow, $199 is definitely less than I expected it would be. Tempting set, it looks really fantastic!

The 'finals' looks pretty good in the video. The first ones that the designer shows in the video are horrible horrible!

Glad she passed him back the final versions that actually look pretty nice.

I know nothing about molding technologies, but will we see inconsistencies as a result of this? Some legs where the lines are in different spots than others?

I'm amazed at the price. As someone mentioned, that's 8 cents per piece, unbelieveable considering licensed sets, especially SW. I can't understand people complaining about the price. I think it's mostly people who don't buy Lego on a regular basis.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ Depends on the weight of the set compared to the new PR.

The PR is about the same part count, for $160. So this set is $40 more. Is it because there are larger parts? If so, fair enough. Is it just because of the licence?

If so, fair enough, but it would be interesting to know the cause.
  • ColoradoBricksColoradoBricks Member Posts: 1,659
Just the minifigs alone it is a lot of new molds, including those few multicolored molded parts. I thought it would be a $300 set, would have been happy with $250. Comparing License sets, EW is $250 for 2000 parts, make this one looks like a "bargain".
  • byolegobyolego Member Posts: 114
I agree that the price tag of just under the $200 is very agreeable to me. Psychologically and financially.

For the sake of comparison, another licence set --> Tower of Orthanc from LOTR is 2359 pieces and it's $199.99.

This one has 2523 piece for the same price so it's a better deal!

I understand if anyone thinks this comes across as nit-picky, but I think they're valid points, particularly when it's a marquee-type 'wow!' set. Fans should point out 'oversights' if they spot them.

So don't get me wrong, I do think this is a great effort, and if i was a big Simpsons fan, i'd be all over it because there's so many things they've done so so well, but it isn't without some significant issues that, equally, were I a big simpsons fan, would irk me quite a bit, and more importantly (for Lego), put me (an undecided type) off completely.

Namely, (having seen the show many times) I'm finding the internal layout of the rooms a bit questionable, to say the least. Of course, they didn't have to do them, but they have. I am bearing in mind that over the years the animated show has (naturally) had the odd inconsistency and some artistic license, but still, if it's a model of the simpsons house with interiors that i'm forking out £175 for, I shouldn't be looking at a complete re-build to get it 'right'.

The front room should be where the bay window on the front of the house is, with a second living space behind that. The stairs/landing shouldn't (and never) turned back on itself, but runs a T-junction at the stair head. This in turn means the entire interior upstairs is then 'off' in some way too. There are other things, but to list would be boring in a thread post (and more suited to a review), such as the main bedroom losing its en-suite.

    And Lisa's Sax.

(I can't see it in the photos). Yes, it's only a small piece, and easily solved for a lego fan bricklinking bits, but come on, in a set as complete as this tries to be, it's her most iconic thing. Homer shouts at her to stop playing it, the opening credits roll with her playing it. Entire episodes feature it. It's effectively her light sabre.

Apart from that, nice (if expensive) set. :o)
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
Lisa without her sax is like Bart without his skateboard. :)
