For those arguing that Revan is too obscure, keep in mind that they released a TIE Crawler as a regular retail set.

And all the TOR sets. I believe KOTOR was a larger success than the TOR MMO.

I want promos to be obscure characters, not endless protocol droid repaints. Repainted astromechs, on the other hand...

LOL I don't even know who this character is. He looks like the Red Power Ranger going to a halloween party as Darth Vader. My wallet is closed until November.
  • monkey_roomonkey_roo Member Posts: 1,411
I would say for those that remain up to date with the current SW univers then Revan is not that obscure, but for those that have only indulged in the films then yes he is a new character. As someone who has read every dark horse 'comic' I would say Revan along with the likes of Malak, maybe Carrick Zane, Quinlin Vos and Cade Skywalker are now quite established as 'fan favourites' and while not SW cannon as such I think many fans see them as such.

Away from lego the calmer to get hold of these figures when Hasbro released them last year was significant and those 'EU' figures continue to demand a high after market price.

A little obscure for broader lego fans but a great looking figure and I hope for many more like it.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
^I'd mentioned it before, and again, I don't know how (or even if) this applies to the LEGO side of things, but Disney seems to have decided to disregard the EU altogether. Hasbro, for example, has been instructed to ONLY produce OT, Rebels and Episode VII toys for the foreseeable future.

In general, I'm curious to see how this pays off. On the one hand, they're slapping a not insignificant number of fans in the face by disregarding nearly thirty years of canonical material (I know Lucas claims it isn't 'absolute canon,' but the guy had a team devoted to making sure they stayed consistent with the films and each other, even going so far as to retconning dates and events when the prequel trilogy wound up being inconsistent with dates and events already established by the EU). On the other hand, because they chose to set it way too close to RotJ, they would have been isolating an even larger portion of fans who haven't kept up with the EU. Were it mine, I would have just said, "We're setting this 100 years after RotJ. Feel free to create a new story from there." As it stands right now, I think their desperate nostalgia grab is going to leave a sour taste in a lot of fans' mouths.

But I digress. If Disney is committed to washing their hands of the EU, I'm not holding my breath for a figure like Revan to turn up again. Not any time soon, at least.

I know I ruffle some feathers within the community but I'm actually quite content with that fact because those that do take issue with me aren't exactly the sort of people whose opinions really matter. I respect those who earn my respect and certainly not those who utterly fail to do so. I can't say I really know you (can we know anyone via the internet alone?) but you appear to be in the latter group. Ultimately, I don't form an absolute judgement though because one can never be sure and I don't choose to be that kind of person. You and those who gossip with one another can name-call me a "troll" and choose to "ignore" me if you choose. That says far more about you than me though.

They ignore you (or should) because more often than naught you have nothing useful to say or add to the discussion. Most of the time it seems like you make comments to purposefully try to start a conflict and worse yet you seem not to only acknowledge you do this but enjoy it too.
That to me equals big Troll. Now I have not heard many people who openly relish this, which is astounding to me. As for your explanations, again trolls will rationalize all the want, but that does not make it right.

As for the figure give away. I'm likely going to buy LEGO in May, so as long as I do not have to only buy star wars Ill probably still try to get a couple

@y2josh, indeed you have and I have also heard this. On the same point what is interesting and what gives me hope that we will continue to see small splashes of EU is that Marvel now own the rights to the graphic novels and comics, including the last 20 years of Dark Horse material and several 'comic book guys' I know have already said that marvel are planning to reprint everything, including their own back catalogue which they lost to DH 20 years ago.

If that is true then by proxy Disney will be publishing old and on going EU material so I do see them allowing lego and probably Hasbro to produce toys in support of this if the demand is there, just good business really.

Re: @prof1515 vs. The World - Let's please call a truce. He has every right to vehemently express his opinion, and if you check his original post there is nothing insulting, just an inflammatory rendition of what appears to be the dissident opinion. And "Darth Nobody" is actually hilarious, like it or not.

And as always @y2josh helpfully points out the constellations. Did you take journalism class in reverse? "No rumors? Send news!"

I'm sorry, but frankly, I simply cannot respect someone as self-centered as yourself, who regards other's opinions as inferior to their own.

Yes, you can only know a person to a certain extent through the internet, which is exactly why you shouldn't be arguing with everyone at every opportunity given, or flagging every comment that you don't agree with. The first thing that comes to mind is definitely "troll". And worse, as @madforLEGO said, you seem to enjoy it!

You can rationalize all you want, but your actions say otherwise.

Back on topic, I really like the look of the Revan minifig, but I'm not sure I want to spend another $75 just to get the minifig. I'll probably see if I can trade or buy here on Brickset :o)

Disney has desided to "Clarify" what is and what isnt "Cannon"...their first move was to close many Lucasarts game projects....They then gave the Comic rights back to Marvel.....in doing so probably shitting on any continuity Dark Horse Comics has weaved together over the years...i have no idea where the books futures lay, but so far none of the new books had any issues being released.....we also know they canceled The Clone Wars CGI season 6, only to be picked up by Netflix(im betting a google search will result in Netflix is Disney owned somehow)...the new Rebels show will most surly get the "Cannon" stamp, as well as the new trillogy and the spinoffs.
Most disapointing things was the cancelation of the Boba Fett Game, it was supose to be epic, and i waited 5 or so seasons of Clone Wars to see Asoka get shot in the face and it never happened.....oh and Leia Organa is a Disney Princess....
Im glad Disney and LEGO seam to have a good relationship, we will be getting new sets for the next 10 years at least, including all the new Movies/whatevers.

They ignore you (or should) because more often than naught you have nothing useful to say or add to the discussion. Most of the time it seems like you make comments to purposefully try to start a conflict and worse yet you seem not to only acknowledge you do this but enjoy it too.

Those are your opinions and not fact. You may or may not think what I have to say is important but that is your own opinion.

I don't actually give a crap about starting conflict or not starting conflict. If I offer my opinion, I offer my opinion. If I provide a fact, I provide a fact. This is a web forum and quite frankly nothing more than that so far as I'm concerned which means I don't take what's written here to heart as gospel. What does concern me is when people hypocritically believe that some are entitled to express their opinions simply because they are shared by the majority while those who hold different opinions are free to be attacked, both in the forums and via messages. Fortunately, I don't hold any of those individuals or their opinions or comments in any regard whatsoever and thus it doesn't really matter to me but to others that kind of behavior might be more distressing. In any regard, it's pretty contrary to the spirit of "community" that some of those same hypocrites occassionally even mention (personally, I've never bought the argument that online forums are true "communities" given a variety of reasons that would fill a different discussion).

I'm sorry, but frankly, I simply cannot respect someone as self-centered as yourself, who regards other's opinions as inferior to their own.

I don't respect opinions, I respect facts and reasoned arguments. Opinions, whether mine or those of anyone else, are worthless. Unfortunately, most people don't seem to realize this. As more than one person has said (as I write this, Harlan Ellison comes to mind but he's not the only one), too many people assume that opinions are equal to facts when they are not.

As for self-centered, that's your opinion and as such I don't respect it not only because it's an opinion but because it's based on ignorance. Those who actually know me typically consider me the least self-centered person that they know.

...which is exactly why you shouldn't be arguing with everyone at every opportunity given, or flagging every comment that you don't agree with. The first thing that comes to mind is definitely "troll". And worse, as @madforLEGO said, you seem to enjoy it!

First, I don't argue "with everyone at every opportunity". That's hyperbole and if you actually bothered to check the forums instead of clinging to your personal bias you might realize that (unless of course you do realize that and simple are engaging in another ad hominem attack; either way, you're in the wrong). Secondly, I don't flag every comment with which I don't agree, I flag those who engage in personal attacks instead of my argument or those who take my words out of context to engage in straw man arguments. That's why your post was flagged because you made assumptions (I'm "self-centered", "regard other's opinions as inferior to [my] own", etc) instead of actual arguments.

Let's see if we can get the thread back on course.

I recognised the name Darth Revan but haven't played any of the KOTOR games so obviously just heard it in discussion etc. I don't think its a bad choice, I think these promotions will always appeal more to the completionist/high paying collectors so having obscure characters that won't fit well into a set is probably a strong idea.
Personally not for me though, I'd rather have a variation of a character I know or would be more tempted if the poly consisted of the character and a small build, just for this character its not worth it for me. Thats just my opinion though, well aware that a lot of people loved KOTOR and will be psyched for this.

This topic really got people going didn't it?

I've never seen* ESB or ROTJ and in my opinion Boba Fett minifigures are rubbish!

    * this is actually true

You based your opinion on a character from a movie(s) that you haven't seen...nice 8/

Personally, I believe Empire to be the best Star Wars film. Here, we meet Yoda, Lando and Boba Fett. Boba Fett seems to consistently show up on peoples top 10 lists of greatest Star Wars characters.

We learn so much from this movie other than Taun Tauns smell really bad. I'm not going to spoil it for you because you haven't seen it (shaking my head). Also, Irvin Kershner did a fantastic job directing the movie.

Don't forget, in those wonderful special editions, we met Boba in IV.

And teeeeeeeechnically, we met him in II.

    Ugh, I'm depressing myself.
But, if we're going by release timeline, we were introduced to the Fettman in the Holiday Special. Just sayin'.

The free promo looks neat. Would they have adult sizes in tshirts? Also your wallet is going to take a hit. That's a lot of money. The three different tiers do looks nice. I'm just not a fan of the Lego friends.

I just want to know about the "three different tiers". Apparently they look nice. They LOOK NICE, people! Is it a Wedding Cake? A new type of pricing structure? The suspense, the not knowing, is unbearable.

    BRAVO! :oD

I may be off the mark but if anyone looks at the May store Calendar which has just been shown on the brickset homepage it shows T-Shirt and friends images which could be what @thelegokid was referencing? Which might clear up any confusion?

^ I do think that @TheLegoKid‌ was referring to all May promotions; in another thread he has identified himself as Lego shop employee and so is probably pretty familiar with what's up-and-coming (at least for a given time period).

@CapnRex101 Oh, actually no sarcasm intended, just a little over-the-top (genuine) appreciation for such an odd post. I'd read it before it had any replies, and thought to myself 'Well that's a conversation stopper... follow that up somebody', and left it for others to find. Then later, once people had responded - and finding a series of responses inspired into humour - I saw the oddly crafted post in a new appreciative (though unintentional) light, one which reminded me of this true story:

Angry argumentative manager-type in an office giving subordinate staff a hard time, abruptly picks out typist, and asks some impertinent and loud question. Typist pauses... looks up, and announces 'My dog has a bad leg', then continues typing. Manager-type is stunned into silence, splutters, mutters something unintelligible, then walks away holding his head.
Remaining staff ask typist why she said that, her response 'Huh, was just any unrelated nonsense, always say it to disarm the agitated'.

Indeed the "May the Fourth Be With You" minifigure is Darth Revan! As you read this, thousands of Revans are shipping all over the world.

One of you mentioned why such a character (Extended Universe) was selected while other movie canon figures were not. Well to put it frankly promotional figures are meant to be one off, collectable and unique. Why do you think figures like TC-4 and Shadow ARF trooper were made?

On a related note HK-47 would have made an awesome mini figure ;)

I'd probably have liked Bastila over Revan, but Revan's good enough to get me to shell out the $75. Probably asking for too much, but I hope there's an exciting sale again to go with him.

I think Garindan, the spy at Mos Eisley Spaceport would be an obscure character that isn't really attached to one scene or spaceship.
