Collecting parts for microbuilds?

I just decided I want to mess around with microbuilding, but I'm not sure the best way to get parts for it. This is actually the best I managed to do with what legos I own.

Is there a trick to collecting good microbuild pieces? Is the PaB wall my best bet? I think my local shop has 1x2 green slopes right now that I might want to stock up on. Also I don't have many pieces to make micro people. (the two here are the only ones I could make without using really weird colors.)

Also, this is the land of giant frogs. Don't question it.(If you can even zoom in and see it? Not sure how images work here yet.)

there are some good sets for micro builds. Sets like #10230, the minecraft serie (#21102, #21105 and #21106) and also to an extent #20201.
Another option, beside PAB, is bricklink where you can get all those tiny pieces for cheap.

I don't really like the prebuilt microbuild things. I don't know. If I buy models, I tend to build them and only alter them a little if I desire; I don't like to scrap models. I'm planning on buying the haunted house soon, so I have something to display for halloween, and buying a cup o' wall while I'm there.

Otherwise, I have no idea how to navigate bricklink and take advantage of it.

The sets I have listed are great for all type of microbuild parts, you don't have to build the models, you can just use the parts...

Are they good deals? Because the minecraft sets are kind of expensive.

If anything about this page is accurate, what pieces would you guys try to grab from this wall?

    http://www.brickbuildr.com/view/pab/side/off/98/

    I'm thinking
    - 1x2 green slopes
    - 1x8 white smooth tiles
    - 1x4 green smooth tiles
    - plants
    - antanae

Anything else that I should grab from there? Assuming it's even half correct.

those trans blue 1x2 tiles would be helpful for any water ways, etc. you might be building.

Got in a minecraft set. The little parts are really great. I'm already wishing I had more, and I didn't even do anything with it yet.

I have one of each coming, though I might resell, or at least hold onto, the Netherlands set.

^ If you are still looking for an assortment of parts for micro builds, I would suggest the LEGO games. I've padded my collection of slopes, tiles, small nose cones and satellite dishes with with the various Heroica, Harry Potter, Hobbit games. They aren't as popular as regular sets so they make it to clearance often.

In addition, seasonal polybags from Target or WM that make it to clearance are also good sources. They get reduced to $2-$3 or less and are generally comprised of 30-50 small parts.

Obviously this method isn't as cheap as PaB, but it will give you a wider selection of parts. Hope this helps.

    @chuckp
Couldn't have said it better myself. The games can't be beat for part packs.

Not sure if still available but the mini modulars set is a great parts set for this purpose.

^ I wish I had picked up a couple more of the Mini Modulars...it came with something like 50-90 extra pieces. It was hands down good price per piece ratio

I didn't realize it was so cheap... now it's on sale and I'm guessing out of print or soon to be retired? I seriously can't get it right now.

It also gives you some great ideas and techniques.

I wish I'd bought some extras - I didn't realise what a good set it was until it was too late.
