[US] 2013 Year End Clearance

Target is starting the year end Lego clearance scramble with #60010 advertised as 50% off (RRP $39.99) in today's ad. This is interesting in that last year I believe the first markdown on clearance Lego was only 15%. We'll have to wait until stores open tomorrow to see if anything else in the Lego aisle is aggressively marked down.

WalMart is advertising 25%-50% off "select toys". No indication of whether any Lego is included.

Toys R Us is B1G1 40% off of Chima, Star Wars, and Technic. No doubt the SW stuff is already marked up more than 20% over RRP, so that's a "get it at retail price" sale. More interesting is the Technic, especially if you can find a set with no markup, since Technic is exclusive to TRU in the US.

Not anymore. Technic is now available at smaller chains/local toy shops.

#60010 is way overpriced at $39.99 IMO....$19.99 is more like 25% off. I took the kids to TRU yesterday and the only Lego NOT selling was Star Wars and Chima. The only Technic they had left were Unimog and a couple others $150 and more.

My TRU had 3,542 Funhouse #6857 on the shelves still and 523 Palpatine's Arrest. Most other SW and SH were cleared out. Says something about how they have priced their exclusives.

OK, maybe I exaggerated the numbers a bit....

Will be interested in what walmart does. I remembered the only way to know at first was to scan. Then depending on the store the tags would go up that day or some times a week later. If you don't get there before the tags forget it.

This year is working out prefect for me. I'm working nights tonight and get off at 4am. I just happen to drive past a couple of 24hr Walmarts on my way home. I will be sure to scan everything I see and post my findings.

I cant spend all day on the hunt...I have to be back to work at 4pm on Thursday for another 12 hour shift,,,wooohoo.

    I don't think 24-hour Walmarts reopen until 6am.
  • brocksbricksbrocksbricks Member Posts: 3
I think it depends on the store. Some show 5am, others show 6am. I'm pretty sure there were some that never closed, not even Christmas day.

^ How can you tell the hours? The website only shows normal operating hours.
  • ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
My local store says on the website that it will open at 5:00 AM.

I am actually curious if there will even be any markdowns this year. I have a funny feeling there wont be much marked down...hopefully i'm wrong.
  • flyingpigflyingpig Member Posts: 119
First walmarts should be reopening at 5 EST. Wondering what people will find. Or if there is any stock left.
  • brocksbricksbrocksbricks Member Posts: 3
Not much stock left. But the stuff I anticipated potentially being marked down was full price.

Bummer. Guess I can sleep in. Last year was amazing, guess they learned something.

Same here. been to two WMS and nothing is marked down.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
I think the 30% off Black Friday probably helped thin inventory sufficiently across the chain. Or they just ordered more accurately this year. Not too disappointed though. Some great deals were had this year!
  • flyingpigflyingpig Member Posts: 119
Not to mention LEGO demand was up across the board this year.

This is what I assumed might happen because of the 30%. Anyone think it's worth a shot still to drive out? The last two years have been epic, but if I remember correctly they were not regional markdowns, the same sets were marked down all over the country and in the Walmart system (price scanners).

My nearest Walmart is 2 minutes away, so I'll run over shortly to check...

I am NOT expecting anything worth bothering over, but if there is I'll post from my phone about it...

Scanned and nothing. Actually pretty well stocked for after Christmas.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I checked my first WM and its LEGO isle was fully stocked. Even had the new sets out....but nothing was marked down. Heck all of the new sets wouldn't even scan. So either their are zero markdowns this year or the computers just haven't updated yet.
  • goshe7goshe7 Member Posts: 515
Same in my walmart. Even the friggin' polys are RRP.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
It would be the peak of irony if the best overall deal Walmart offered this year was the 30% off on Black Friday, then nothing the day after Christmas.

I recall two years ago when almost everything in the LEGO isle was 50% off. Anyone else remember all that half price Ninjago goodness? (abit we didn't know it for sure at the time)

It is 5:30am here, I'll give it 30 more minutes, then head out, hopefully the computers update by then.

I did find an entire case of series 7 cmf's that scanned at $2 a pack

Check if other toys are on clearance already and not the LEGO section.
  • ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
Nothing at the first WM. Had a couple helms deep that were marked back up to $129.99.
  • odshowtimeodshowtime Member Posts: 49
I had a bad feeling it might be like this. There is no free lunch or if there is you can't go back for it EVERY day. I will at least go to the closest one as an excuse to grab some breakfast. Maybe we just have to be patient.
  • DoubleDDoubleD Member Posts: 488
Found a little section of clearance but I think this was here before Christmas has only gobling king battle for 69 not that good
  • ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
Just spoke with the toy manager. She thought that some sets would go on sale sometime today. Also, she thought the markdown would just be 25%.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I just found two Harry Potter Knight Busses #4866 for $20 each...but my manager said that the discounts won't hit till later today.

I guess I don't need to take an extended mid-morning work break to run out today. Thanks to everyone who is posting updates! Keep them coming!

Two Wally's = zilch, nada, nothing.

One Target: 25-30% off Crazy Scientist, Wargs, smallish red SW ship (not Z95, the other one), smallest Galaxy Squad set, Kraang Lab and Ice Cream Stand. I bought LED Xmas lights instead.

I might have my wife check walmart when she gets off of work at 4:00pm. Doesn't sound very promising though.
  • goshe7goshe7 Member Posts: 515

Three ripped open S11 for $1.49 at meijer. Haven't seen general stock of s11 there for a couple weeks there, unfortunately.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
At Target they had a bunch of sets marked a couple bucks off but nothing worth buying. They had a Helms Deep marked down to $110 and a Sith Infiltrator for $72. The Fire Helicopter #600010 was $17.48.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
Two Walmarts & nothing marked down. Not much on hand anyway.

The right set number for the fire helicopter is #60010

If I remember right last year I went out around ten and ever thing had been marked down
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
Everything was marked down already when they opened last year.
