Lego employee gift

margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Just ran into my TRU Lego rep (and boy was she ever tearing her hair out, store is a cluster) and she told me their gift this year was a nice backpack filled with small sets, so NO exclusive this year. I think it's more of the same pattern of trying to prevent reselling.

^ I saw the box front image here on Brickset earlier, but hadn't seen the other image. The concept of four small builds to share across the family is great.

Frosty the Skeleton is a bit disconcerting, though.

So instead of one exclusive to tempt reselling, there are four exclusives to tempt reselling. Fascinating.

Someone sent me the images earlier today. I didn't want to plaster the news over the home page in case some employees hadn't got theirs yet.

I guess some people are not so considerate!

Ahh, my Lego lady is naive, she said no exclusives. I need to refind her and offer to buy her sets. :-) She didn't think she would make money like she did selling her gift from last year.

Cute little builds with the exception of Frosty the snowman angel of death.

Any pictures of the backpack? She said it was really nice quality.
Her son actually said "aw mom, it would be nice except for the Lego logo". Just wait until he comes out of his dark age and realizes what he did.

Frosty the dark angel / will bring you down a hole / with a corn cob scythe and a smile of death / he'll take away your soul.

    Seriously kind of terrifying.

I just looked at the picture again because I didn't know what you were talking about. Freaky!!!

Hummm…I am still longing for Santa to drop the 2011 Lego Duck employee gift down our nonexistent chimney. That will be on a cold day in hell for sure. Just can't bring myself to pay 100+US for something with 84 pieces and that so many employees received for free.

Somehow this year's gift does not seem to compare to the Lego Duck.

It's from the Monster Fighters set that didn't quite make it into production.

Love this one. What's that thing frosty is holding, is that a 1x2 bar somehow?
  • ninjagolightlyninjagolightly Member Posts: 140
The Heisenberg hat doesn't help either.

Pretty sure it's a brown carrot top same as the reindeer antlers.

But, Frosty is glow in the dark white! So, a new part/color after all.

I noticed that the elf hat and ears part from the CMF elf had been added to replacement parts last Wednesday. Almost as expensive as the whole figure though. I wonder if it is due to this set.

How little do you need to work for Lego to get yourself this set, would a Saturday job at a Lego shop count?
  • PlellPlell Member Posts: 192
Kinda doubt they'd hire you for one day a week. That said I think it depends more on when you were hired than how much you work.

^ That is nuts... almost a buck a part, and I don't see anything really special in there that couldn't be bricklinked... (or for that matter, made from your own personal stash of random Creator-type parts)

    Wow...

But hey, it only takes 1! :)

Yeah it's one of those things for employees who have worked there for a long time. My friend who recently left his manager position at the Westfield brand store last month, received the 2012 SDCC minifigures over the summer holidays from someone in the company.

Another example of an employee exclusive is The LEGO Story DVD, which my friend actually gave to me as a present. And the blue Laval/Cragger t-shirt, which, again, present from my friend, as it was store employees only.

Well I guess the employees have to be able to afford non-discounted Exclusives somehow.
  • PlellPlell Member Posts: 192
Where are people getting the idea that employee discounts don't apply to exclusives?

In the US at least, they don't... I've had multiple LEGO employees and a store manager all tell me this. It was posted 6 months ago multiple times by multiple sources.

    Has something changed?

I saw the rumors back then, but they struck me as being of the "heard it from a guy on Reddit whose roommate's brother knows a guy at the LEGO Store" variety. I'll have to check on my next shift.

Check on your next shift, as in you work at a Lego store?

    Ah neat-o.

So you're just now finding out if your discount applies to exclusives? I don't think I could wait that long to find out, it would drive me nuts.

Not as bad IMO as people who do not work there alerting you to it, but better than going up to the counter like anyone else and hearing 'we do not do discounts for employees on exclusives'. :-)

Again unless like LFT said something has changed.

Considering the amount of ruckus made back when they went to the 'no discounts on exclusives-hard to find sets' when they implemented it back in July, I'd be surprised if this had changed. Considering that most folks first heard of said then new policy via the LEGO magazine coupon or another program with a perk, hearing that employee's didn't get the discount either was a secondary happenstance.

You can now get on in the brickset marketplace, down to 60c a part.

It's interesting because I have a friend that works for company headquarters in Billund and after seeing this thread I sent him a picture to see if thats what he got and he said we wasn't sure - He would be getting his gift this Friday.

Just got mine tonight! I was only hired in early November, so I'm guessing the cutoff was just 30 days. I want to take it home to build with my family on Christmas; the question is whether I can resist building it myself before then.
