If I saw a garage sale listing with this stuff from the next-door neighbor, I'd still pass.

I remember maxing out on the 50% minifigures last year. I'd probably do it again if, you know, they actually had them.

I guess it's quite clear the junk sets that are warming the shelves and stockrooms. For a moment there, I thought I saw a very bright light when I thought #3920 was actually #79003, alas.

    What a load of garbage.

SO GLAD I went with the 3X VIP points last Saturday. Wow...it's like someone in TLG management wants to get rid of customers. I figured with the lack of discounts on exclusive sets, TLG would at least throw us a bone on BF. I guess I was wrong...
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,836
Surprising to say the least that 3x VIP points are not even being offered here, or even 2x for that matter.
Still, I want to get a few more of the Holiday #2 sets so Ill likely be buying something, probably Winter Cottages..

I guess the sale to watch will be the one for after Christmas or at Christmas (forget when last years year end sales effectively started)

^I basically took your approach and purchased a couple WCs to get the free Holiday #2 sets. I still have some exclusive sets I would like to get, but may wait for a later opportunity. I don't think any will EOL before next Christmas. I went to the VIP invite on November 23rd and there was definitely some pent-up spending to get the 3X points. Probably the best TLG deal for the 2nd half of the year by far.

I have to believe that TLG's approach to cutting discounts on exclusives and killing off BF sales will hurt their year-end revenue numbers. Then the questions will be asked in the board room, and hopefully we can get back to some reasonably priced sets and sales opportunities (outside of Amazon).

Never thought I would want to go to TRU on BF more than LEGO.com or LEGO store.
But with the Town Square for 75 that is a pretty good deal, at least the best you are probably going to see for that set

S@H site is running very slow for me. None of the prices are in effect yet (that I can see.) Sad that 3x VIP was replaced with $10 gift card.

Slow, but I got through. Had to stop and refresh the window a couple times. Got a couple of the storage units at half-price - they showed at full price in the item listing, but at the (correct) half price once they were in my cart.
  • chrisdojochrisdojo Member Posts: 169
IMO, last week's "BF preview" was better than actual BF. hmmm...

Yes, the 3x VIP points were nice.

Agreed. I fail to understand why they'd make the preview a better deal than the main event.

I bought a couple Friends sets and Chima Swamp Jumps (I need the foxes). Free shipping and 50% off made it worth it to me, and I have enough budget left in case something unexpected pops up. I made up my cart at 11:50 and refreshed at 12 so I had no problem getting the deals.

Wish I would have bought on the pre-sale but pulled the trigger on Horizon Express, lots of PF track, and some train lights. A couple extras including the Christmas set and:

Item No: 5003535 Ages: 3+ Availability: Promotional Product

    Anyone know what this is?

I just came back from the store. I never received last week VIP invite, so I went today expecting to see the same deals. Got a stupid ticket for a free keychain, no extra VIP points, no AFOL stuff for sale, no prizes, nothing.
I came home empty handed, I'll buy some stuff from S@H and at least will get that $10 card.
    THis is happening in Canada.

I really thought they would surprise us with a store wide percentage off. So disappointing... I'm really glad I took advantage of the pre-BF last weekend b/c it was a much better deal.

turns out the $250 shopping spree pull cards were ONE per store, and the $1000 was one per the whole country (or all of North America perhaps?) It's a pretty big dropoff from the 10/20/50 days, that is for sure.

the free set coupon would have been infinitely better if it was a free set up to 19.99. as it is, 16.99 reduces the pool of available sets considerably, and most of those are 9.99 to 12.99 as well, diminishing the actual value of the coupon.

Honestly, not much reason to do any shopping at LEGO, what with 30% off to be had almost everywhere else.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
Yea, these deals are sad... it would be interesting to know what this year's LEGO retail numbers are vs last year.

With Walmart putting all LEGO on sale 30%, then Amazon price matching everything at 30% off, I think we've now set a record for the number of different LEGO sets at 30% off at one time.

Should probably have added them up last night, but it is at least 50 different sets, maybe closer to 100.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
I also have to agree now. These really are pretty sad deals when compared with so many other good deals from stores. I did happen to be out by my Lego store for other purchases (Lego minecraft at a different store for a nice discount), and went to my Lego store. I got the free key chain scratcher and didn't even bother with that, I left without buying anything.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,836
Decided to pick up a FB and get the holiday set and $10 gift card at this time it is better than paying for a FB at Amazon

The sad thing is that LEGO retail executives probably will miss the point. Sales might be ok this year, any dip can be blamed on the economy and shorter selling season.

People will go in, remembering last year's deals. Most LEGO customers don't come to forums like this.

They'll go in, be unimpressed, but perhaps buy something because they are already there and busy and don't want to go somewhere else.

But they won't be back next year.

Going from great discounts to good discounts to basicly no discounts at all, is not a good plan. They needed at least one or two big sets on sale, to attract attention and at least appear they were playing along.
  • DougoutDougout Member Posts: 888
I bought some sets I wanted, but considering my store did the 10/20/50 card last year which I missed because their stupid website had the wrong hours listed and they just decided not to do it this year, I am extremely disappointed that Lego can not pull their shit together.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,836
^- I hear you. I decided not to try to get to the mall today to go to the LEGO store, instead I rolled the dice and hit up TRU at 9am for the Town Square and Republic Gunship and lo and behold they still had stocks of those.
I still have bought a few things from LEGO.com, after all I wanted the Holiday set#2.

Oh well, time to wait for the End of year LEGO sale and see what if anything will be discounted for a good amount

Had a quick question regarding the promos on S@H and the redemption of VIP points. The promos state you have to hit $99 and $149 AFTER vip redemption to qualify for the promos. However when ordering and applying VIP points the promos remain even tho the total drops below those thresholds. Obviously this is an error with their shopping cart software.

My question is has anyone had previous experience with S@H taking away promos due to not hitting the merchandise totals required due to VIP redemptions after you have placed the order?

Has anyone noticed any new/special/interesting pieces that were added to the PAB wall in their local retail stores today? Just curious if that has ever happened in the past or currently.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
@doriansdad I did the same thing, bought some mods and cashed in last weeks 3x VIPs. All promos showed in checkout, I expect they'll all ship but I'll let you know if they don't.

You need to be more specific.
There is a set of part types that have been appearing in PaB lately, but I do nt believe that they have added any special parts during BF specifically for BF
  • FrictionPinFrictionPin Member Posts: 144
I mistakenly presumed the title of the thread provided that info, but yes, I did mean specifically for BF.

  • FrictionPinFrictionPin Member Posts: 144
    LOL

I left that part intentionally vague because I really didn't know if they did anything special on the wall for any sales. Could be a nice idea though, wait to release a batch of new parts or colors on a big sale day like today to help increase foot traffic in the store.

Thanks! Looks like they are aware of the problem as you can no longer use VIP points at S@H online. I will wait to see if they are able to solve the problem...don't want to place orders relying on the promos being shipped and have them take them away.

Well...this is a first for me as an AFOL...no purchases from TLG on Black Friday. Not sure who the brainiac is at TLG, but they are definitely shooting themselves in the foot.

On the bright side, I'm off to work on the WV sets I purchase over past years with the family.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,836

Yeah, I always take an empty cup with me to the LEGO store to fill up, it is rare that I take a cup and do not fill it up

Interesting the newest wave of Speedorz all sold out. Glad I went ahead and grabbed the fox when I did. Fun figure and good parts pack on that one for $8 isn't bad at all.
  • coolpixcoolpix Member Posts: 357
^^^ that is my sentiment as well. For the first time since 2009 I did not care to go to a Lego store to purchase anything on Black Friday. Not even the Promo Xmas set was enough for me to go there. I hope they get a hit on their sales figures for the holiday season so they can change for next year and offer us something rather than nothing.
