Have to agree there. We went through the whole presentation for a Disney Timeshare and it sounded like a great deal -- almost did it. The problem was, we don't normally vacation that much or go on extravagant vacations in the first place. So while we felt it was a very flexible plan, a good savings, and one that we would really enjoy, in the end we would spend much more money than we ever would in the first place without it.

I think the suggested plan was about $22,000 for 30 years or something???

And now that we are talking about it I'm considering again :P

It is not necessary to purchase a timeshare. There are numerous websites (not sure I am allowed to post names?) where people post their timeshares for rental. You can usually rent a week for just the cost of the mainteneance fee on the unit. Last trip to Orlando cost us $795 for 7 nights in a 3br villa. As I live in FL, no cost to rent a car and residents get great deals on park tickets so I do not come close to the numbers you guys are mentioning.

No, I agree. Timeshares in general are a HUGE waste of money and typically a very poor investment. That said, if you absolutely love Disney and regularly vacation there, the timeshare might make sense.
