I have heard a lot of complaints about Vizio TVs, but then again I have heard the same complaints from those who have Sharp, Samsung, and Sony TVs, where others swear by them.
Same with almost any electronic device

As for BF, I would be happy if they just re issue the 3x VIP points for the day. Items on sale would be nice too, but I just do not see LEGO violating their own policy by putting exclusives on sale, even for one day.

If your order is $100 or over then it will sit in customer service for a few business days as they will manually review it for discrepencies in payment information and to review your purchasing patterns for ban determination.

What a way to run your business... Treat all your customers as criminals and vagrants...
Well I can certainly undertsand verifying payment / shipping information for larger orders. TLG got hosed the past few years with large amounts of credit card fraud.

As a participant in the secondary market I am also glad they are making moves to ensure the longevity of that market with more frequent bans for those that exceed certain limits. I also undertsand why they do not disclose those limits.

No love for the 60" Sharp Aquos that was on sale at Target yesterday for $664?.

Wow, that is a good deal, still on their web site, but in store only (that is annoying).

These things are becoming very cheap indeed...
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,117
I bought a 60" Aquos LED two years ago at Best Buy of all places for $999. They only had two in each store. The TV is great , no problems. I also have a 32" Vizio Razor in the bedroom. The picture is awsome.

Not sure if you're serious or sarcastic. :-) My Technic Crane has already shipped and will be delivered tomorrow. It was both the most expensive, and first, of my 3 orders. The 2nd order has shipped too. I think it totaled about $120, and will be delivered tomorrow too. My 3rd order, for a VW Bus, was placed a bit later that day. It hasn't shipped yet, it shows 'In Process'. So, just from my orders I think it's simply First Come - First Served, and not based on dollar amount or anything. They got the very first orders out quickly, not so much for the later ones. That makes sense to me.

Ewok village was my first order and still in customer service. My second order is winter village cottage, it's shipped and will be here on this Wed.

^Sony will go bankrupt soon. Their business model of very expensive, unreliable merchandise just does not work anywhere. They are not the 90's giants they once were, it is sad. They can't sell anything anymore, no tv's, no pc's and although I enjoy their contribution to gaming, that is not a money maker for them either.

As for Vizio, I have two, I got them very cheap about 5 or 6 years ago. They work perfectly. My dad had one and I decided the picture quality was very good. One of the best purchases I've ever made.

I don't understand this demand that TLG has to have some kind of amazing sale for BF. They don't seem to need it, as they've got plenty of customers cycling through the holiday season. As for us AFOLs, aren't the best deals of the season usually the day after Christmas?

It isn't meant to be a "demand", rather a point that if you want to complete on Black Friday, the deals being offered don't really stack up to what everyone else is doing.

TLG seems to operate in a bubble, they behave like the rules of retail don't apply to them. Maybe they don't, time will tell. Now it isn't the same thing, but look what happened when JC Penny said, "ok, no more coupons and sales, just low everyday prices"

It works for Walmart, but it took a long time to get there. JC Penny tried to do it overnight. Customers revolted.

Will TLG customers revolt? I don't know, just because we get huffy here doesn't mean much, we are also in a bubble, will Jane and Joe Consumer care? Time will tell.
LEGO isn't comparable to JC Penny, Walmart, or most other retailers. They produce the product they sell and there are few Black Friday discounts on their product from others. The majority of complaints about a lack of deals are coming from resellers who are looking to make a profit off of a LEGO sale. Why would they want to have a sale to the extent that others can make the money they could be making themselves. They are having small giveaways to get people in the store and the 3xVIP points Saturday seems to have worked well for them. Their business model has been working very well recently and there haven't been any signs that this is changing. I'm happy LEGO is willing to have deals like they did this Saturday and the small giveaways that are continually occurring. They have a great product that is yet to be matched in quality by any competitors. I don't think there is another product or retailer to compare them to and until there is data that shows their methods aren't working I think a large portion of the negative criticism is unwarranted.

^Agreed, the no discounts on exclusives policy seems to be doing great for them. Retailers are more prone to discount the $100 and under non-exclusive sets a lot more now and that benefits a lot more people than discounts on exclusives did. I'm not happy about paying more for all the Legos I want, but it doesn't look like Lego will be changing tunes anytime soon.

What are you talking about? They have Betamax, Walkman, Discman, Minidisk WEGA and Memory stick technology to fall back on...oh wait.

I used to buy everything Sony also, just never HDTVs. I could never justify the price difference based on the research I would pore over.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,096
It's unfair to lump the Walkman and Wega products in with the memory stick. The Walkman was as big as the iPod at one time and Sony Wega TVs were class leaders in picture quality. Beta actually took over the professional video market during the 80's and 90's. If you want to fault Sony in recent years it's because they have poor internal communication between their software and hardware teams. They also tend to over engineer their products. Cramming too much technology into one product and then limiting its usefulness in poor user interfaces and proprietary restrictions.

This year? I'm not even going, I guess TLG doesn't need the business. Shame, because I really like my local store, great manager and friendly staff.

Ha! Ironically, I had Gail's business card sitting in front of me on my desk when I read your comment. I like her...and her staff too. What I don't like is the size of her store. I'm sure she does amazing business, but I get claustrophobic walking in when nobody is there much less on BF. I can't even imagine! They will have to grease people up at the doors on BF just to have movement.

Lego only has to offer the mildest of incentives to sell a product they sell without a problem year round. Children won't want Lego any less if there are promotions or not. People should be happy with whatever they can get.

Too bad it's not the children who are paying for it. And don't even get me started on the being happy with what I get as a customer attitude.

I spoke with a couple Brick Specialists in in a retail store today regarding the possibility of sale items on Friday and extra VIP points. I was told that they won't know anything until Wednesday night when they get a memo from the central office and are setting up for Friday's madness. They also mentioned receiving a small stack of pull-tab cards.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Chicagoland USMember Posts: 9,349
I'm not surprised by the tab cards. Even so, I will not be going anywhere near the Mall with the LEGO store on BF, so I hope they have the 3x VIP points at least.

I really would like to get to the bottom of the list of exclusives that TLG is providing to the stores. Most of the modulars and expert series are on it. The instructions are that no discounts on any of those sets. What makes a modular set get listed but not a large Technic set?
  • CCCCCC UKMember Posts: 17,799
^ Probably based on their past sales figures and other insider information (such as when the sales occur). Lego know the modulars will sell well even without a discount. So why discount them.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,332
^^They probably just checked @LFTs account history and used that.

I often compare Lego to American GIrl. They are both luxury toy brands that people want. Many of the items that I've seen that have hit Lego recently have already hit Lego.

I honestly think they don't need to compete. They don't need to offer the deals. At this time, the retail rules do not apply to them. People are going to them. At some point that will change and Lego will need to change, but for this year? I'm not convinced they need to.

As for AG, they generally offer next to nothing for Black Friday. While they offer deals on Cyber Monday, often the items are still quite pricey, and are items they are clearancing out anyway. They get rid of stock they need to move anyway, and garner a bit of good will. Lego generally has a similar model. Speedorz aren't sellling well? Let's give them away at Brickfest or highly discount them for Black Friday. There is absolutely no reason for them to discount Exclusives, because ideally they should be moving anyway.

Now, things can bite these companies in the butt when they thing customers will keep paying prices. AG jacked up the price on their baby doll this year by a ton. The rumor is that consumers aren't biting, so they are triyng a few other techniques to offer discounts now. Lego will hit that point if they keep going the way they are, but I don't see that happening this year.

  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,332
^ I know nothing of AG but I think you're spot on with regards to LEGO. At this moment they don't need to compete (indeed I wonder if a massively reduced set sold at WM or Target is actually better for LEGO than the same set at the same knocked down price sold at LEGO store? If as has been mentioned these are loss leaders then that would indeed be true.). If LEGO are as rumoured running at full capacity then increasing sales at this time of year beyond what they will already be might even be bad news.

As new manufacturing capacity comes on stream and/or purchases from resellers and consumers drop they may need to start discounting again. Right now I just don't think they do.

Sigh. My partner was home today and a courier turned up at about 3pm to ask if our house was number 71. She told him yes, he asked if she's sure, she said yes, she's sure she knows her own house number, he asked for her name, and anyone elses name and she told him to which he replied "I don't understand how this can be number 71, I've dropped your parcel at the start of the street at another house" (which I can't fathom given that it's quite simple - our street runs consecutively from 1, to 73 like streets often tend to do), my partner told him he better go get it and we've not heard from him since.

I hope someone else is happily enjoying my Lego order right now, because I know I'm not. I was going to phone TNT to explain it to them but apparently they don't like putting contact details on their site? I wonder why.

To be fair this is the first time I've ever had a problem with TNT, and good on Lego for getting it to me that quick, it only shipped yesterday morning! Still, this'll be a fun one to track down as we don't even know what house number it is. I guess my only hope is to contact Lego themselves.

I understand TNT sometimes pass it onto Yodel/HDNL. Maybe this is one of those famous Yodel incidents I've heard about but have yet to experience given that they've always been great for me up until now if this is their doing.

I just want my Christmas set!

Just curious... if he'd already dropped your parcel off at the start of the street, why did he then come to you? Also, when he had found out his error, why on earth didn't he have the brains to go back and get it from where he'd dropped it instead of leaving it up to you?

Xefan, I had a similar thing but worse as there was no one in where he left it so they just faked a signature. In between me calling parcelforce (the online tracking said delivered and there was a signature) and the delivery man returning, someone from down the street walked over and told me they had my stuff. When the delivery man came back and saw the boxes he'd left on the wrong driveway gone he was literally scrapping himself! He honestly blamed his eyesight!

My worry here would be that the driver was a Christmas temp who just wanted to avoid the agro. Hopefully the sort of neighbour will be honest and at least Lego will sort you out without too much fuss. Make sure you tell then straight away though whilst they have Christmas sets left!

I was told by the manager at my store here in Columbus that 3x VIP is not happening this weekend. It was only for the online sale this past weekend. Also, my items are still showing as "In Process" that I got on saturday and the 3x VIP points aren't showing up either.
  • piratemania7piratemania7 New EnglandMember Posts: 2,062
I actually called CS tonight because one order shipped and the other was still in process. She told me they were still catching up from the weekend and that is why there was such a delay and still is. I assume the triple points either is completely automated or there is some manual work involved. Either way I assume this is all a backlog that should be rectified in the next couple of days.

I placed 4 orders about 45 minutes after the sale started. All of them said In Process until late evening Monday. Then they were all changed to shipped but when I checked tracking they had actually left the warehouse Monday morning. The notification process seems to be running farther behind the actual product fulfillment process.

Points were credited to my account for the 1st order but the other 3 have not shown up yet. It's only been 2 business days and I'm sure there are many people working very hard to catch up.

So spoke to TNT last night, told me to phone tomorrow so they could contact the driver from the depot, but apparently there's two TNT's, and I was speaking to TNT parcels who after 30mins figured out I needed to spoke to TNT Post, so I spoke to TNT Post who told me there's actually 3 TNTs and I was speaking to TNT Post UK and I needed to speak to TNT Post NL who are magical ghosts that are uncontactable and only subcontract to either Royal Mail, Hermes, or Yodel in the UK.

So I contacted Lego and the CSR was really pleasant and is just going to try and track it down for me.

Royal Mail has been dropping missed deliveries off to my local post office rather than the depot miles away again like they used to in recent months they're going right back up in my estimation (probably has something to do with the telling off they got from the ombudsman), so TNT now officially takes what used to be their spot.

Thankfully Lego said that worst case they'll re-ship the whole lot to me, so I guess I'll see my Christmas set and the rest of my order one way or another :)

@Xefan sorry to hear about your horror storey with the delivery man. I can't believe the HE didn't go back to where he dropped of your package when he realised his mistake instead of you having to go on a phone chase. Hopefully all will be resolved and that's good that Lego will re-ship the order if it doesn't turn up.
Incidentally I ordered on Saturday and like many, my order is still showing "in process" Looks like Lego made a fortune last Saturday and this weekend will be as good for them.
  • XefanXefan Member Posts: 1,149
I wouldn't even have been bothered by his mistake if he'd have at least told me who he dropped it with but I didn't ask seeing as he told me he'd go get it and be right back and just never returned.

Oddly when I checked TNT tracking last night the last thing it said was out for delivery. This morning however after out for delivery it said at depot, then out for delivery, then delivered. So it basically said at depot - out for delivery - at depot - out for delivery - delivered. Whether this was the way he had to fudge it to try and cover up his incompetence I've no idea but it was all a bit odd but if their tracking was anything to go by it implied that over night it had made it's way back to the depot, gone out for delivery again, and been delivered, which of course it hadn't - I even checked my green bin and other random places he may have left it if on the off chance he had in fact dropped it somewhere early this morning without knocking on the door.

I don't know what he was thinking, did he honestly think I'd not care and just let it go? It wont have been a small box, he must surely have known it's going to catch up to him?

I don't even know where it is really, I'd have hoped the person he delivered it to would've been honest enough to bring it over to me, but as I don't know who that was it's hard to know if the courier did go back and get it and still has it, if that person isn't honest and has kept it for themselves, if it was stolen from that person's drive, or what.

As I say though thankfully it doesn't matter really, though it does creep me out a bit knowing someone else could have my invoice, though hopefully there's nothing on there other than perhaps my name and address though I suppose if my VIP number is on there that could be enough to access my VIP account, not that it's a big deal seeing as it's empty right now.

I had two orders on Saturday, both over $100, and neither of them sat in Customer Service. They both shipped Sunday/Monday, and arrived on my doorstep just a few minutes ago...

I'm not sure what their logic is. I placed my orders quite early Saturday morning.

Ok, so now it is showing as shipped. YAY!!! How long do you think until the VIP points show up?
  • BTHodgemanBTHodgeman Member Posts: 622
Bottom-line, LEGO is esentially a luxury product. They'll sell it for full-price (or not 'heavily' discounted) in their stores and online because they can. If you're in a shopping mall (where all the store are), no one will be cheaper than The Lego Store in that mall... They don't have to discount.

They know you can get it cheaper at Target, Walmart, (occasionally) Toys R Us, and they don't really care. A sale is a sale. The Lego Group (overall company) likely sees the same profit whether it's sold in one of their own stores or at Walmart.

I would guess that the actual stores aren't remarkably profitable in their own operations. Rent cost, utilities, wages, fixtures/gigantic displays can eat pretty quickly into whatever margin they have.

The stores exist to advertise the brand and gather impulse sales. Especially these days, who 'plans' a trip to the Lego Store?

The "authorization" likely just dropped off. You'll be charged when your item ships.

^^ALL of the trips I have ever taken to a Lego store were in fact planned! I would say that the majority of visitors also "planned" to visit the store; after all, at least by my observations, rarely do you see someone buying a $5 keychain or even a small battle pack. The more expensive exclusives are the reason most people are going there rather then Target, Walmart, etc.
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Dunes of TatooineMember Posts: 3,639
^Same here. The only reason I'm even at the mall in the first place is because I planned to buy Lego. Now that I've cut back my visits to the B&Ms in protest of their crackdown, it is almost guaranteed that a visit to the store is a planned stop for a promo-poly. That really is the only reason nowadays to buy direct from them.

Got my points from all of the pre BF event purchases. Still holding out hope that the 3x VIP appears for BF as my GF wants to buy the Sydney opera house and this is likely the best deal to be gotten for the foreseeable future
