I also got an invite to the Columbus store. I spoke to one of the managers there yesterday and he said that you get a pick-a-brick box, some sort of bracelet, and a scratch card that would give you either a free keychain, a free set up to $17, or a $250 shopping spree. First time I've gotten an invite to one of these so we'll see!

Wow - that might be some indication as to what the scratchers will be for the rest of us on Black Friday. No more 10, 20, 50%?

I received an invite last year, but didn't this year. No keychain in February either. My purchases at the store have dropped dramatically though...

^ the scratchers will almost assuredly be exactly the same - they have always been historically, and they are in fact all part of the same batch.

After two years on the invite list, I didn't get one this year. I'm guessing because I bought too much, and they have started weeding out the highest spenders.

I dunno. I heard it is transaction related over all and each store only has so many slots.
I did not get one, but asked what the requirements are. I would find it hard to believe that I got beat out of 30-40 spots with transactions, but I wonder if October was counted in this count, as I bought a bunch during October.
Or if it is only transactions, but a dollar amount as well.
If it is transactions only that means some could go buy a keychain every week and be counted for this.

^ I don't care what they say, I'm about 95% sure they skimmed off the most frequent/high spending customers, figuring them as resellers. I know I'm easily in the top 10 of my store in both total transactions and total dollars, and for the first time in 3 years I didn't get an invite, which would line up with many of their other anti-reseller policies this year.

Why is this considered a black Friday invite when the date is Sat Nov 23rd?
    Anyway didn't get one...Yet

Never spent a penny in a UK store, I got one last year for Manchester which is 100+ miles away.
    Nothing as yet this year.

A close friend of mine got an invitation, and she has bought one set, just one set, almost 2 years ago. I could go as her friend, but I'll pass. I'll be spending my money somewhere else this holiday, anywhere else, and I guarantee that they'll appreciate my business and not ask "And who is this for?"

I had a thought that the invitation list might also be influenced by feedback left on the surveys at the bottom of the receipt. I usually complete it about 2/3 of the time, and mention the clerk by name if I know it. Do any of the other invitees do this?

Brick Specialist: "And who is this for?" Customer: "Actually; I was thinking of just selling it." Brick Specialist hits concealed alarm button, lights start flashing storewide, sirens go off, manager rushes to check-out with furrowed brow, Brick Specialist and customer play tug-of-war with child's building toy.

I've been asked who a Lego is for when I'm by myself. As an AFOL with kids, its always a bit embarrassing to me to say that it's mine. I just assumed that it was as a conversation starter and not for nefarious banning purposes.

We are going to the Black Friday event at Downtown Disney, CA. I was so excited when the invitation came that I immediately texted our babysitter to see if she could watch the kids, for an hour, inside Disneyland. Apparently it was one of the stranger requests she has received but fortunately she's free.

I probably have spent more this year than last, but most of my "interactions" with Lego are around the first of the month when I'm trying to see if they have updated their calendar online to determine if it is worth calling in a reservation for the next Lego Club meeting.

I always want to say "None of your damn business." When they ask me who it is for. I got a invite, I don't recall ever putting in a survey. If I did it was only once and that would if been likely last year. I do go in there about 8 months out of the year based of what freebie is giving out.

I got an invite to a store I've only ever been to one time and I did not buy anything when I was there. I barely buy anything in the actual lego stores anymore since they don't accept discounts on the larger exclusive sets anymore (all regular sets can be had cheaper at other retail stores). I only buy pick a brick cups or small sets for my kids when we are at a lego store. I've never called the survey number they give you. I've spent well under $1,000 this year at lego [email protected] and lego stores. I only go to lego stores maybe 6 or 12 times a year...and half the time I don't buy anything. I have no idea why I would get an invite?

^ Seeing that a lot of the big spenders are not getting it they may not have done it on money spent at all but they may have just picked from people that are within a certain distance from a store. You've ordered online so they know your info and are probably just marketing it that way.
  • IwantmorelegosIwantmorelegos USAMember Posts: 42
The store I got an invite to is closer by miles as the crow flies, but is actually a longer drive then 2 other stores that I normally would go to.
  • bluedragonbluedragon United StatesMember Posts: 505
I think we need to look at this event not as a reward to those who buy a lot but as a strategy to get those who buy little or nothing into a store with incentives to spend money.

I think it makes sense from TLG's perspective if they are excluding the big spenders. TLG does not need to invite the $10k+/year customers. Those will spend the money at [email protected] on BF anyway, in order to get the holiday set number 2 and the rumored triple points.

I got an invite last year after buying only 6 modulars and a couple of small sets all year. Not this year, despite having spent considerably more- they must know I'm hooked and move to the next target.

I talked to the manager of my local LEGO store, he hinted that if 2+ VIPs are for the same household, none of them will get an invite.
My wife got her own VIP earlier this year so I could not see anymore what/when she buys me LEGO.
I got one last year and not this year while my spending remained the same, but I understand LEGO reasoning behind it.
  • TheLoneTensorTheLoneTensor MericaMember Posts: 3,950
You're saying that if two people at the same household each have a VIP account, they are both blackballed from the event?
  • ColoradoBricksColoradoBricks Denver, CO, USAMember Posts: 1,673
^ while the rules of selection are not clear he was trying to figure out why I may not be selected, he asked if I had 2 VIP accounts and when I told him that this year my wife got a VIP card he seemed to think that could have been the reason.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,310
Oh, I get it. They are thinking you have more than one account to get around purchase limits.

^ Wait, are you saying that a Lego store manager doesn't know what he's talking about when it comes to corporate policy?!?

The only thing consistent is that nothing's consistent.

I talked to one of my local managers today. He said I am not on his stores list. He said to call back in the middle of next week and if he has an open spot its mine.

I just got an invite for Leeds, UK. I never received a VIP keyring earlier in the year. I've been there once (for Grand Opening). Sheffield is closer for me and as such, is my regular store for me to go to.

It's a shame that I probably won't make it too as work and funds prevent me from doing so.

Ha ha, I just received an email invite to a store on the other side of the country. I haven't lived there for three years. Go figure. Can't transfer to someone else; have to show ID and VIP card. :o(

Got an invite to Liverpool, where I had shopped a few times before they opened Manchester. Which is where I shop now. Only got it today and have to reply by tomorrow!

I too got mine today along with the separate invitation for the store. Maybe it has something to do with the VIP keychain...hmmm
  • RykeerRykeer Member Posts: 35
Not sure about the VIP keychain. I got one of the keychains this year, but no invite. Which is actually good, since the nearest store is almost 7 hours away. Better for someone else to get the invite that can actually go. I went to the store once last year, and once the year before on vacation, but that's all.

Looks like i'll go after all. Got lucky on holiday swapping.

    Guest slot already taken.

Apparently I have an invite sitting at home for Watford. Never shopped there as the only store purchasing I do is with the kids at Westfield but happy to be invited...

I am probably pushing it to get there as I am touring at the moment so will it be worth it?

Got an email from the store manager today...looks like me and my son are in. Woo Hoo... I guess the fun starts at 9am tomorrow morning.

I'm wondering if they are filling the slots that weren't RSVP'd.

I think the online VIP deals will be about the same as the store invites. I just enjoy the opportunity to get some personal time with the store employees plus some good bonding time with my son. I will miss seeing @jenni at this year's event though!

    Next year, Jenni! Next year...
