Anything on any new 2014 themes?

tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
Over the last month or so we've seen updates about new 2014 sets for current lines. Has there been anything at all about new themes?

I keep waiting and waiting for any info in hope of any new theme, and I've seen/heard nothing. At this point virtually none of the current themes interest my son (or my girls). Do we think there will be any new theme hitting in January? or not until much later in 2014? or not at all?

In general, he really likes the unlicensed, non-city themes that Lego does.
It will be nice to have some Ninjago back, but I really am hoping for any cool new unlicensed line.

    Mixels
    Disney princesses, Friends-style

Those are the only new themes, I believe.

Don't forget The LEGO Movie sets. Which technically is an unlicensed theme based on LEGO IP. The figs are yellow and should have something for everyone, Wild West, Space, etc based sets. Personally, that will be the most anticipated theme for me next year.

There's supposed to be sets but so far the only confirmed stuff is one house during the first half of the year and the CMF 13 stuff.

Actually that's just the existing "bricks and more" theme under a new name.

I'm quite excited for that too :-))

Weird. Did I miss a post about the princess theme, or did I completely miss it? I looked back and saw nothing.
I am happy of the potential for another girls line. Thar is very exciting. I am bummed, though, that it is Disney Princess. I 'get' why it makes sense, but I felt Cars never did well because they aged out of the market. Cars is a younger boy theme, and Lego tends to hit at auto tut 5-6 for the average kid... That is about when I have seen people are often aging out of Cars and Princess. With older girls, they will have no interest in that.

Mixels, I had forgotten about, and my son might like, but it sounds like more an action figure type theme.
The Lego movie... I guess I was equating that completely to Lego city line, as opposed to a new theme.
Simpsons is sounding like that one set.

Well, what a bummer. :-/ I guess I will be hoping for anything else come summer. Sounds like Ninjago will be the line next year for my son, and I will raid my stash. Maybe grab a last Galaxy Squad set.

I have a soft spot for princesses... but would have liked some minifig stylee ones... In fact...*Light Bulb*... a collectable minifig series of disney minifigs would be sooooooo lovely. Princesses and their Heroes/Companions and their Villains in a one series set.

I agree with the "Cars" stuff, my son loved that movie between 2-4 years old, since then he has moved on. Maybe Lego learned from the "Cars" theme, as with the new movie "Planes" they have only released Duplo sets.

I can't find the link for the Brick show video now. I'm sure he mentioned Cinderella's castle, which I'm excited about despite being sure it won't be a full-blown detailed model exactly as I would like :-)

I've found the link and started a thread specifically about Disney princesses .

@legomatt I get what you are saying. A minifigures series of Princesses and related significant heroes and heroines would be great, but alas, not going to happen. My daughter is going to flip for the Princess minidolls and sets. Hopefully the Cinderella castle will be fantastic.

I like what they are doing with future Collectible Minifigure Series. The Lego Movie and the Simpsons should be interesting. Hopefully the Simpsons house won't be lame like the Harry Potter Escape From Privet Drive set.

^Oh yeah, I know it won't happen. Just saying it would be a lovely set to add to my collection if they did.

@Brickarmor No, I didn't mean all released in one set quite like that (though certainly great for the consumer who wants them all). What I meant was just like a regular CMF series set, but one dedicated to the disney princess/hero/villain characters done as minifigs.

But as i say, no more than a wishful dream... of course, disney dogma dictates that "I just gotta' believe! Papa, I just gotta' belieeeeeeeeve!"

I honestly do not believe Cinderella's castle is going to be anything I want it to be. I would personally want it at the level of HH or a modular... Something that would actually target older kids. I assume, though, that this entire line is has the same target age group as the Cars line did.

I am hoping I am wrong. Such a line could be really cool if the target age was much higher. even if lower, though, They could make a very fun set at the $99 price point.

Just not the cool set I would want. ;-)

While a Cinderella's Castle might not meet everyone's expectations (unless it were $500), given the techniques they've used on the Vampyre Castle, I can see it happening easily. I just hope they wouldn't make it girly and pink.

Plus, they could include the awesome sleeping suite.

Chatting with an employee in bricks & mortar store the other day; he said that there will be a new sub-theme of City, which will be a Polar / Antarctic type set and we might, fingers crossed, get a Polar Bear!!!

First CITY heads to the country, now to the Arctic... Me thinks they're stretching the definition of 'CITY' a bit. But a (new) Polar bear would be cool.
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
Hmm, if it's Arctic we could get polar bears, if it's Antarctic we could get penguins...
Here's hoping Lego exercise creative licence and we get both :-)

If of course the rumour is true!
  • chromedigichromedigi Member Posts: 344
Ooh, penguins! The potential for new versions of this are staggering!

    I'd like a new Polar Bear/Penguins

Yeah the previous polar bear mold was pretty poor. Too small and no articulation. The new bear from last years forest police molded in white would be great
  • Renegade007cjhRenegade007cjh Member Posts: 696
^ Yeah, that's what the guy I spoke to was hinting at; as far as he's concerned the Antarctic / Snow City line is definitely confirmed, but the polar bear is on the wish list.. and now, thanks to the above comments, penguins are on mine!!!!

Yeah I'm aware of that. My point was that all current 'real world' sets seemed to be released under the broad umbrella of 'CITY' even when they're in the countryside for example.

The last polar stuff was released under an 'Arctic' label, so maybe they'll do something similar.

I wonder if the new polar/arctic style will fit to the Winter Village Sets. Suppose it will not be an arctic Station but more some vehicles and a kind of winter cottage, like there are in Norhtern Canada or so? Can't wait to see some pics.

Since the DC Super heroes will be getting Penguins Faceoff maybe they will included molded penguins instead of brick built ones.

I love collecting Lego animals... More for my zoo.

I was hopeful last year on a cool arctic theme, but at this point, I'm not going to pay attention to the rumors. Plus, as has already been mentioned, I'm of the expectation that it would an Arctic Police Station or Actic fire station. :-/

If there is an arctic theme, it would likely be released in the second half of 2014. The sets for the first half are known, and none sound particularly arctic-themed in nature.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
^ this would fit the pattern for CITY releases:

first half of the year: police/fire
second half of the year: one-off theme (coast guard, mine, marina, space, etc)
  • richlrichl Member Posts: 246
Some kind of Arctic Explorer Station wouldn't hurt. Especially if it was big enough to use for a The Thing MOC...

The LEGO Movie sets could be just that. Not much is known about the majority of them (17 in total). Maybe the reason there is no new action themes is because several of them are going to be covered under TLM. This theme should feature something for everything.

Don't know if it completely classifies as a 'new 2014 set' as it might be released in December, although I won't be surprised if in The Netherlands it won't be available untill next year, but I am really looking forward to the new Hobbit sets. Such as 'Laketown chase'.

I am very curious what other LOTR/Hobbit sets will come out? I hope many many more for years and years to come, but not too soon, and not all at once as it will otherwise be too much to collect all.

I just checked some pictures and older news items on brickset and elsewhere regarding The Lego Movie, I can very well imagine, that this will be the huge new Lego theme incorporating many themes, that many people might regard as separate. A theme that includes both yellow as well as 'fleshy' minifigs from different eras (present, futuristic, and past), with a jazzy brick melange that mashes up a whole bunch of settings and building styles.
Perhaps not something you feel inclined to completely collect (if you have that urge) but just take your pick.

I am looking forward to that movie, and what follows 'brick wise'.

    Huh.

I am not sure why, but I was under the impression that Lego Movie would be basically 'city'. Watching the trailer, though, it does look like there is some potential there. I will keep my mind open on that and wait for sets.
