STEAM (the Great Western LEGO Show), 5th & 6th October

It's nearly time for my favourite annual Lego event!*

The Great Western LEGO Show will be taking place at STEAM, the Museum of the Great Western Railway, in Swindon on 5th and 6th October. It's always a fantastic show with some truly awe-inspiring models, fascinating talks and an extremely tempting array of stalls selling all sorts of Lego goodies.
I highly recommend going if you're at all interested in Lego (so that's everybody then ;-))

It's organised by our own lovely @Martin and the models are built by members of the Brickish Association, the UK's largest LUG. See here for more info: http://www.greatwesternlegoshow.com/

I decided to start this thread to remind people that there's only 5 weeks to go, so if you want to attend, don't double-book yourself for that weekend!!
You can say here which day(s) you're attending, maybe what you're hoping to see. Exhibitors could maybe give us a clue as to what they'll be displaying.

It's also a great opportunity to socialise and meet fellow Bricksetters, maybe do a few trades in person too.
I attended STEAM (as it's generally known) for the first time 2 years ago and it was awesome to actually meet some of the people I'd been chatting to here for a few months. I hope I'll get to put some more faces to usernames this year :-)
I'll be there Saturday and probably Sunday too. I'm not exhibiting, I'll just be drifting around chatting to people and admiring the epic builds :-)

So, who else is going to be there??

*Other events are available. No detriment is intended to said events, however they are not taking place imminently and hence "out of sight, out of mind". Yes, I am fickle.

I could really kick myself as I made other plans for that weekend. I have really enjoyed going for the last 3 years, seeing some awesome MOCs and meeting other AFOLs.

I will be there on Sunday, complete with Brickset T-shirt. It may sound silly, but I have a mental list of people to meet in person, only Huw is ticked off so far :o)

Sadly I won't be, or at least, I'm not exhibiting as I'm off on a cruise on the Sunday. It's possible I might be granted a pass by my wife to go on the Saturday morning, though. I haven't asked yet :)

I'm planning on exhibiting, and hopefully my display will actually be ready by then (a combination of designing, ordering parts and building them). I may also bring some minifigures to shift, but I will be there with my camcorder and camera.

(also reminded I should design myself a new hoodie.)

I'm so there! I'll mostly be stationed at the display table of models from DK's new 'Lego Play book' - 7 of the 8 contributing builders should all be at STEAM - so please say hi!

STEAM is a top, top weekend - definitely the highlight of the UK AFOL calendar.

Really looking forward to hanging out with everybody, and I'll be getting together with a couple of other people to put together what should hopefully be an interesting display.

Fingers crossed someone produces badges for Bricksetters like last year so folks can put faces to the names....

@Teamladd - as a previous customer and due to the fact that mine, a year on is very faded, I'm in desperate need of a replacement. :-)

Hoping to get there with my youngest on the Sunday. STEAM is where my dark ages finished last year with the purchase of FB and GE.

@Legoboy I was looking at mine earlier and it's the same. I can't knock the quality of the Tshirts but think the print should of been better.

Going to look elsewhere for a printer and see what sort of prices I can get 10 or so printed for.

The design is done just need to find a good cheap printer.

good news Huw, it ain't GWLS without you. You can count on it, nothing would give me greater pleasure, more space for my own stuff.

@kempo81, would you please be so kind as to make a badge for @supersympa, he was asking me about one earlier.

@rchadd, there will be both current sets at RRP and OOP sets at decent prices if previous years is anything to go by, you can normally find some interesting bits and pieces, at least I do.

Those of you around Friday night, anyone fancy a curry or similar?

@atkinsar there will be an announcement about the badges shortly so of Eric puts his name on the list when it's published he will become the proud owner of a Brickset badge. tag. thingy...

What's up with last years anyway, can't we reuse, or were they dated, can't remember but I've still got it somewhere.

Last years were dated, yes. People can reuse theirs if they wish and aren't worried about the date. Also I'm sure there will be a number of attendees this year that have missed out previously. And then there are the fussy ones like @legoboy that change their picture/name/sex/EVERYTHING every 5 minutes that will want a new one!!! That and he's a completist and will need both the 2012 and the 2013 model ;o)

My wife & I will be there all weekend, helping out & hopefully displaying some bits and bobs. It's a great show - hard work for those displaying/organising/selling/helping but ultimately great fun and rewarding, and a fantastic social event. Don't be shy, come along & say hello :-)

It's been an amazing year for Brickish members wrt books. As well as the new DK book that caperberry meantioned above (7/8ths Brickish!), I think Warren will be selling and signing copies of his 'Brick City' book, and probably promoting the follow-on book. Pete Reid and Tim Goddard will be promoting their 'Lego Space' book, although it won't be available to buy until the end of October unfortunately. I think they're planning to show some of the MOCs they built specially for the book, stuff that hasn't been seen in public before.

    See you there!

I've just picked up the Play Book at WHSmith with a fiver off (as it works out cheaper than my Amazon preorder which hasn't shipped yet). The book looks so awesome, can't wait to properly pore over it. I deffo want to get it signed at Steam!
  • CapnRex101CapnRex101 United KingdomAdministrator Posts: 2,280
^ I did exactly the same, using the same voucher. I will have to lug it up to Swindon to get it signed as well (hadn't thought of that) :o)
  • SirKevbagsSirKevbags Fairy Land Member Posts: 4,030
Will it be available at Swindon? I'll happily pay the extra fiver if it means something else not to carry!

Thanks guys, for the kind words about the show. I'll be there too ;-)

We have a few book authors at the show this year. Megan Rothrock is also hoping to be there too.

Let me know if you have any questions here and I'll do my best to answer them.

It would be great if some kind soul could put together a little list of authors and their books present at the show so I could bring/buy the right ones to get signed. Somebody (Lucy?) has already mentioned the idea that they would make good raffle prizes too.
