Any new clearance Lego at Walmart?

bluishgrey -- it may be that they will set up a clearance area with these missing sets later. That seems to have happened at one Walmart that I went to. First they have items for clearance in with the regular stock. Next week only the new stock is present and no clearance aisle. Finally, a week later I notice all these lego sets and other toys in an area next to the garden section.

malachi, yes I hope that's the case. In the past I've come across some great deals in the clearance aisle. So far I've been able to buy almost all of the POTC stuff discounted either at TRU or Target. Still need the Queen Anne and Mill set but just couldn't bring myself to pay full price if there's a strong chance they are about to go on clearance. I'll keep waiting and watching.

Went to another Walmart (I have 5 SuperCenters around me in a 10 mile radius), and found Potter's 4736 Freeing Dobby for $5. They had about 20 of those at that price. I got only one, since I am not a big potter fan. The same store had all PoTC on the clearance aisle, but at regular price, plus a few Atlantis and City sets with minor discounts. I suggest checking to Walmart often, because when they drop the prices, the savings are much better than Target's.

Went to my favored Walmart today and saw little changed in the prices. The Slave 1 that I had my eye on was gone. I would be surprised if they were bought at $60, but . . . . I found the Clone Turbo Tank that they had earlier. I overlooked it before because it was behind several Pharoah Quest Pyramids. All $99, including the tank. There was a change in the Toy Story Train. It was down from $54 to $40.

coolpix-my local Wal-Mart has terrible clearance markdowns of about 20% and they stay at this level until they are sold seasons later or the boxes get ruined so badly that the sets have to be returned to LEGO or tossed.

As for Target, I just found a PoP Battle of Alamut for $13.48!

Got the Toy Story Train for $35 on clearance. Not really even a fan of the TS theme, but snagged it anyway.

I went to a different Walmart yesterday -- the one that got their sale started later. From the last time there, they had moved the Lego and other toys into the aisles of the "Lawn and Garden" area, now home to the clearance section. Last week or so it was the main display for that area. Now back to school has that place. I saw no change in the prices. There was a nice amount of stock but no deals. I am still baffled by the thinking behind this so-called "clearance."

Man! You guys sure get some incredible deals. If anyone's Walmart has on over-stock of sets at a good discount and you can be bothered posting overseas, Feel free to message me. If you're willing to pass on good deals, I'll make it worth your while.. :)

That's a great find! I wish there were some PoP on sale in my area, as I think that's a real underrated theme. Went to two stores yesterday, but nothing changed. I have my eye on 2 firestations and 2 Airports in one of the stores, but they are currently only $10 off each, not enough to motivate me to grab them.

Just found an Ninjago Ice Dragon set for $15 at a local Walmart.

coolpix-thanks! Felt lucky that the sale price was MUCH less than the stickered price of $50.48 or so.

My local Wal-Mart that my wife overheard the District Manager tell employees to further reduce the LEGO on clearance has still ignored the DM. The markdowns are the same as in August and I'm tired of checking. Wal-Mart's clearance strategy is aweful. As others have mentioned, there are sets in the clearance aisle with a red clearance sticker that are marked full retail! They may sell for less but there should be an asterisk stating that they don't sell LEGO for less!

My local Wal-Mart also has the red sticker/regular price going on...but then had PotC The Mill just sitting on an empty spot in the regular LEGO aisle with no stickers or prices, but the price check said it was 25% off rrp. But then another Wal-Mart nearby still has the PotC stuff marked with the "NEW" shelf label...

There is no rhyme or reason to Wal-Marts here in Northern California either.

The stores that have had the largest LEGO clearances had them over a month ago. The remaining ones have had only a few sets on clearance, and the discounts were as low as a few cents off(!) to 30% off. Most were in the 15% range.

I did find a single Minotaurus game for $3 earlier this week. I stopped in at a different Wal-Mart and thought I might have hit the gold mine when I saw 25+ copies on the top shelf without price stickers. After considerable waiting for an employee to come with a ladder, I scanned them and was disappointed to find they were full price at $25.

Yes, they make no sense, clearance prices change from store to store, so I think the Managers may have more "voice" on the matter than the DMs, as it seems.

I went to my closest store where they still have a bunch of lego on "clearance" for the same price as regular retail, to find out that the sock reduced in half, but the prices are still the same. My guess: They are not marking down because people are stupid. A lot of people that don't follow LEGOs like we do, will see something with a price on a red sticker, and will think it's on sale. They buy it, no questions asked, and will believe they made a great deal, when sometimes the price is HIGHER than regular Lego prices, like sets "on sale" for $11.44, that cost $9.99 on any LEGO store or shop.lego.com.

That being said, I think they will not go down further, unless the store needs the space for something else, but I was talking to an employee that told me that they will only need those shelves after Christmas now, so the prices may not drop at all.

I returned to a Walmart on Friday for some other shopping. I think some of the stock may have been down even though the prices were not discountedor were very little discounted. I also realized that this is not just on Lego. They had a Thermos Funtainer with a red sticker, after the back to school season. It was listed without a discount! Perhaps they are preying on the unobservant customer who doesn't notice that some red stickers have one price (regular price only) and others have two prices (discounted price and the "was" price). Perhaps it is that they are in no rush to free up space. Their way of managing the clearance is so different from Target or KMart, which differ from each other as well.

Not in the store (as far as I know) and not clearance but the Lego Death Star is online for only $360 right now...
    Falcon for only $104
    MMV for only 90
QAR from Pirates for only $104

10188 is out of stock at Walmart sadly enough... :(
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Chicagoland USMember Posts: 10,167
Im guessing at that price and with rumors, they were not going to last long (also did not know how many they had left)
The QAR for 104 is nice though, as I am guessing those are going out of prod soon.

Just picked up another Death Star at the Lego store tonight (that makes 4 for my reserve stack), they do have them in stock, and with double VIP points this month, that knocks out the sales tax and a bit, plus you get them in the brown Lego shipping box in mint condition, something to be said for that. :)

This last week the put a bunch of Lego sets in the clearance section at my Walmart... Unfortunately most of them were regular prices...

I did snag the Ninjago 2505 - Garmadon's Dark Fortress for $35.00 though...

One of my local wal-marts in Central VA finally made a push to get the shelves cleared. I picked up 1x Toy Store Train Chase for $25, 2x Trash Compactor Escape for $20 each, and 1x World Racers Desert of Destruction for $30.

I also learned why some stores red-tag items but don't reduce the price... it's a flag to those stocking toys that the items are non-replenishable, and while they're not marked down, they shouldn't be worked back into the main Lego aisle.

Amazon has thousands of 10188 back in stock, been watching it for a week, still at 999 in stock. 10197 is also back in stock, over a thousand of those...

For what it is worth, you can sell expensive sets for a high amount, yesterday I sold a new 10030 for $1350 on Amazon, after shipping and fees I'll net $1,130. I've sold 3 of those this year, so they do sell, just very slowly...

I don't think this is a way to get rich, just perhaps a way to help support the addiction. :)

^--- I really do think this is the end for both lines though.. and quite frankly the latest Fire brigades are only good IF they are not part of that messed up batch that are missing parts, otherwise for re-sale they are pretty much not worth it...
Wonder if th eDeath Stars will be on sale for a Black Friday thing.... Has anyone heard what set is going to be on sale for Target for Lego (if any)?

I am still waiting for my local Wal-marts to drop the price of the Star Wars Lego clearance. As of last Monday, I saw no change at one Wal-mart. They had "repriced" the items on 10/17 or 10/24 with the same price. What was interesting was that they added Alien Conquest HQ to the clearance and Big Ben Breakout (?) Cars 2 set. They still had a lone Clone Turbo Tank set at $99. I would have been interested in the TS Train set, but I think many of them are gone locally for me.

I have one of the "questionable" Fire Brigade sets, but thankfully I have another 60 days to return it to Lego if there is a problem.

At least we're talking about it now, and not 6 months from now! :)

Agreed, it is better to catch now, when those exact parts are in stock..
Who know what will occur when these sets from the problem line start appearing on eBay long after it is sold out... Replacement parts may not be available that are identical to the parts missing from the set

One of my Wal-Marts finally gave the full-price "clearance" sets an actual discount. Its discount aisle was set up back in September when this discussion was current. I've been stalking it ever since, waiting for the Christmas stock to finally pressure a real discount on Hogwarts 4842, Clone Turbo Tank, and Queen Anne's Revenge.

I scored Hogwarts and the Clone Turbo Tank for $60 each. There had only been a lone Tank and a lone QAR on the shelves. I had to search for the Tank, finding it in the regular aisle behind some Slave 1's. Never did find that QAR, though.
  • malachirobertsonmalachirobertson Indiana, USAMember Posts: 268
@monnok Did you see discounts on other SW sets?
  • monnokmonnok Member Posts: 5
No other Star Wars sets. Quidditch was down to $10. They had several Great Pharaoh Sphyx sets for about half off. And a World Racer set. A bunch of Freeing Dobbys are in that aisle, but weren't marked down. I'm sure I'm missing some things, but not any Star Wars.

I'm also sure the clearance stock is extremely store specific - just whatever sets your store happened to get onnnneeeee too many shipments of before they stopped stocking those items. I have a hunch that Quidditch is pretty universally overabundant, though.

I went to a Walmart today and could find very little of the massive clearance that they had earlier in the fall. I asked an associate where it all went. He said that it was spread throughout the store. When I specified that I was looking for Star Wars lego sets that the internet said they had in stock, he suggested that they probably were all packed into a truck outside waiting until after Christmas. Perhaps I just have to be a little more patient for those close out deals on SW lego sets. The only lego sets that were clearance and lying around the toy section was a kingdom set (reg. price), an atlantis set (reg. price), and Woody's Roundup ($33). I did get some great Zhu-zhu pet deals though.

A local Walmart (Minnesota) had Series 5 Collectible Minifigs for $1 each. The store I went to had 119 of them.

    @BTHodgeman
Was that an advertised price or did you scan it and it came up that way?
  • BTHodgemanBTHodgeman Member Posts: 622
    @malachirobertson
Standard yellow shelf labels had the price listed at $1.00 (with a "was" price of $2.97).

I bought Series 3 minifigs at this time of the year in 2010 for $1.00, and they were on the clearance isle at the time, but every Wal-Mart treat these sale items differently, in my opinion.

Can I just take this opportunity to thank Robb for grabbing me some 4736 Freeing Dobby sets and shipping them over. I really appreciate members being kind enough to let me have access to the great US deals. On that note, I think someone mentioned 4842? If anyone can grab a spare that wouldn't go amiss.... :o)
    Cheers
