Hello,

I am going to Manchester for the next couple of days and am hoping to drop into the LEGO store on Friday morning (the 23rd of August).

It is a long shot, but if any Brickset members are going to be around for the event at the store, I would love to meet some of you!

Chris

@andhe - I am not entirely sure to be honest. It is advertised on a small card which came with the last catalogue. According to Brick Fanatics there is some sort of building event on between the 23rd and 25th of August at Manchester, and on other dates elsewhere.

I do not plan to actually take part necessarily, I just thought that a few Brickset members might be around to meet :o)

Building event, free gift for first 100 with card each day (three days) and free gift for 200 shoppers each day (IIRC). Liverpool had theirs not long ago and the shopping gift was a minifigs pack. Not sure about the, other free gift - brick or poly maybe. Probably a tie fighter!

Im likely to pop in first thing Friday so may see you there.

I don't have a card, and although I'm off this week, I don't fancy making a trip in to pick up a card, then another trip to get the free set (which will probably turn out to be another Speedorz set). If someone has a spare card though, I'm quite willing to come along Friday morning and meet some of you :)

The Sheffield one is a week later, and I do have a card for that (although I won't be using it as I'm working).

@cheshirecat - Is the card to which you refer a VIP card or something else?
  • PaperballparkPaperballpark Member Posts: 4,268
@CapnRex101 no it's a postcard-sized card which you pick up in store.

@Paperballpark - Entitled: 'Brick-tastic building events - this Summer at your LEGO store?'

I don't know, I've only got the Sheffield one, which says 'LEGO FREE BUILD EVENT AT THE LEGO STORE!' on one side, and '1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY' on the other.

I work just down the road so was planning to pop in first thing but can't stick around too long.

@CapnRex101 - were you in there earlier, around 5.15? I was buying a bunch of series 11 minifigs and overheard someone talking about languages ...

@Paperballpark @cheshirecat - I will be there from soon after 9:00am, although I do not have a card so will just be looking around and buying a couple of things if I can.

Tbh I might give it a miss. I've just realised that I'd have to buy a peak train ticket, which will cost me about 50% more than off-peak that I normally get on a saturday. And I get the feeling it'll probably just be a polybag anyway.

I'm sure I'll see you both at some point later on - I'll be helping out at southport air show next month for starters.

Well having missed my train I too wont be there, instead im sitting on a train platform for an hour!

did anybody get the free set? If so, what was it?
  • fitzyfitzfitzyfitz Member Posts: 94
Free set was #40048. Curiously the main pic on there has a blue base, but it's actually green (also correct in the parts list).
I was passing by on the way into work at 9am so joined the queue of 20 or so people waiting - mostly parents with kids.

Not sure what the other freebie was (for the £30 spend) - they did tell me earlier in the week but it can't have been that exciting as I've forgotten. Tomorrow's is a set of minifigures.

^ thanks for that. It's not something I'm bothered about, so that's good :)
