The Daily Bugle set is how I imagine the super hero sets to be. Its got a decent building with good playability and some awsome exclusive minifigs. Its really an under loved set.....much like the Wolverine/Deadpool set.

The thing i DONT get with the Daily Bugle from looking at the pictures (let me know if I'm wrong), is why are there not more side studs for Spidey to swing from? He has to just use the top off the building?

Any Spidey set should include a couple of SNOT bricks for him to stick to the wall. Easy playability.

I would love these D2C Marvel sets: X-mansion, Helicarrier, Stark Tower, Baxter Building & Malibu Mansion.

As for the current sets, getting C list characters like MODOK and Taskmaster before getting ones like Daredevil, Cyclops and Jean Grey is a travesty.

Anyone else tired of getting only figs on the aftermarket? LEGO please make CMF and D2C superhero sets only.

For Spider-man, vehicles are fine, but they need to make more realistic ones like the Bank truck. They could do a nice size Subway train set for $100-$120. Or the Brooklyn Bridge, NY City Taxi Cabs and other locations. Then just add Spidey against his rogues and bam a set that appeals to everyone.

That Hulk Lab set is just too awesome.
The Hydra tank isn't as bad as I thought it was from the other pics.

I'm really excited for all of these, I think everyone just needs to read more comics, and stop getting bummed on what's not even out yet. I think they'll do just fine for the target market, which is kids, and hype up adults who recognize the characters.

Just found #76011 at TRU for $27.99. they also had all the new ninjago and city, but the Man-Bat set was the only new Superhero sets
  • Wil348Wil348 Member Posts: 240
So going by the fact that the Hydra tank is $24.99 CAD, that means that in UK pounds it should be £19.99, which would be in the same price range as the Nick Fury's Green DeLorean and the Extremis Port Battle. That would be good value actually, you get a good vehicle, 3 amazing minifigures, and a motorcycle.

The lab set is $60 CAD, so that should be around £39.99-49.99.

A proper Doc Ock. Yay. Electro looks like evil Iceman. It's the same as ASM2 promo trailer with Jamie Foxx. The figure is fantastic from the design, but the design was meh to begin with.

Sorta interesting to see them revisioning some of the Avengers from their Wave 1 movie version to now proper comic versions (Cap, Thor, Hulk). I can only pray for a comic version Hawkeye to follow.

I think you'd (we'd) have to wait awhile. These two sets are based on the "Avengers Assemble" cartoon, in which Hawkeye looks more like the Jeremy Renner character than the traditional blue/purple costumed character. Which I would loe to see too :)

I'm holding out hope for a Hawkeye based on Matt Fraction's current ongoing, but if that ever happens it'd be a SDCC exclusive and I'd have to sell a kidney for it. Which I just might do.

Apologies if this has been covered already....

Does anyone have an idea if we can expect a second wave of either DC or Marvel Sets next year. I'm assuming not - and that the split DC sets in 2013 were only due to Man of Steel coming out and those being delayed until the movie.

I also noticed that there's one more Marvel Set 2014 than DC - have there been any rumours to a 6th DC set?
  • RomanticWarriorRomanticWarrior Member Posts: 248
@DougTemplar, nothing has been confirmed, but I have only read rumors that there will be sets based on Guardians of the Galaxy in the summer. I've heard nothing about whtether there will be more DC sets or not. But, there have also been rumors about a Green Lantern fig later this year. Don't forget that DC superheroes sets could also be released under the LEGO Movie umbrella.

I will say that the DC sets look better thought out than the Marvel sets. Like DC is meant for older kids, or adults that act like them, and Marvel is meant for younger kids.
The Marvel bank heist set is not bad, but the others.. it does look like the designers phoned it in when designing those others.

I will say I am surprised that no one has suggested the Danger room as an Arkham type large set for Marvel.. Unless I just missed it in the previous comments. But really how many gadgets does Marvel have? Most are super heroes (or Villains) with superpowers, not like Batman and most of the villains in the Batman universe that are really mortal and have to rely on vehicles and weapons to do their dirty work. I mean Spiderman does not really need any vehicles, neither do Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, etc etc. This I'm guessing does also put the designers in a bind to make creative enough sets for Marvel. At least that is one theory.

I'm not sure a Danger makes much sense. It's just um... whatever Lego setup you have... and then have the X-Men fight in it.

    ^I'd buy that set.

But seriously, I almost mentioned the Danger room yesterday and think it has a lot of potential. For the exact reason you think it would not make sense, I think it would because of the infinite battle scenarios you could play out. IMHO it would make a great larger set, the bigger it is the more immersion you could achieve.

IMO Perfect set to make at 160 and have a ton in the instruction book for different scenarios/setups for alt builds

Regards gadget heroes/villains - DC does have a major edge in this department, partly because so many DC heroes are technically unpowered - The entire Bat Family for example. While over in Marvel most have powers with the exception of Cap, Hawkeye and Shield agents.

If Lego ever expanded out the DC side of the Universe I would KILL for a Blue Beetle and a Bug! Indeed it's on my list of things I'm going to try and build for my own MOC. DC also as the Watchtower Base as another option for a big building set.

Beyond the Fantastic Four and their Fantastic Car (which would be a great set) I can't think of any iconic vehicle left in the Marvel U - other than the X-men's Blackbird which would be a major issue to build as I think there would be image rights with the plane.

I would dearly love a GL Figure set. I'll try to not open a can of worms but the SDCC and NYCC exclusives really annoyed me as those were so limited and denied thousands of us who couldn't get across the pond to get them.

It ended up I paid for 3 custom Figures for my (still to be build) DC U Moc as I fear there won't be a lot of figures released and Supergirl, Miss Martian and Kyle Raynor probably wouldn't figure any time soon.

My son is really excited for the new Marvel sets coming next year. I like the minifigures of Modok and I am amped to see more.
  • TheLoneTensorTheLoneTensor Member Posts: 3,937
Yeah, and Taskmaster, where'd he come from? I know his comic history, it's just weird to see him being picked for inclusion over...many others.

Cool minifig though. Wouldn't be a stretch to put him in a Halloween display somehow.
  • BeavBeav Member Posts: 303
Yeah, Taskmaster is really out of left field. I know there arent all that many iconic villains if they are saving Thanos, Ultron, Galactus etc, but he is definitely an interesting choice.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
Someone earlier suggested that set is based off the (rather terrible) new Avengers cartoon (even though Thor looks a bit comic book-y), where MODOK is a main villain... but I haven't seen Taskmaster in any 'kids' media save for a couple episodes of the (also rather terrible) Spider-Man cartoon. Great villain in the comics, though.
  • MacheteroMachetero Member Posts: 26
My guess is that since the two new cartoons share a universe/continuity that they are playing a bit fast and loose with who gets put in what sets. That or there will be some future episode of the Avengers cartoon with Taskmaster in it. Either way, I'm happy to have a Taskmaster minifig.

Just wondering and hoping someone has the answer, but do we know if/when the licence with DC Comics will need renewed? While we've got Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Aquaman there are still a number of JL members. I did wondered if the new MODOK head could be used Hector Hammond for a GL set....

As for x-men the deal with Fox that is now in place for the Simpsons could open that door and we already have the 3rd x-men film title booked in befor the second is out.

X-Men is a Disney IP. Fox simply has the film rights. It is not involved in X-Men toys except to the extent it's film rights deal probably allows it some revenue sharing and consultation (but not approval) rights.

Maybe it is just me, but it appear the LEGO Movie sets are going to be much better than the Marvel 14 sets? I mean besides the figures.
  • BeavBeav Member Posts: 303
Yeah definitely liking the look of the movie sets more than the pretty uncreative Marvel sets. Still, I want all the Marvel figures.
  • RomanticWarriorRomanticWarrior Member Posts: 248
^^Pretty much, but the Marvel sets have never been too memorable because of their builds. The Quinjet is an exception.
  • adventure_aladventure_al Member Posts: 243
Dont see a huge issue. Anyone with a bit of sense can easily tell the difference. The toes are slanted in, you can spot this even from low quality pics. Feet are different they hopen space behind legs rather than Lego's square footprint. Also the legs slot into the body on some of the figs. So if in doubt ask for a picture of figure dismantled into parts and its easy to spot the 'replicas'.

Others will find these useful to complete sets of superheros that the kids can trash.

That opinion might not be popular but thats how i feel about it.

Oh, right, I remember when the Hulk had an assault rifle.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,762
I would report it to LEGO, as I'm sure they would go after someone in the UK (outside of China) selling these to stop such activity... When LEGO allows to submit emails again that is. Report it and the eBay Auction number. You can always call LEGO as well.

How's it any different from people modding/ customising lego mini figs as various characters. Providing they are not passing it off as the real thing

The guy wholesaling it is pushing it but if someone wanted a few extra compatible figs for the kids then no probs imo
  • legomattlegomatt Member Posts: 2,543
Aside from the risk that counterfeit parts (not just figs, but bricks) may in time, when produced in significant numbers, infiltrate genuine lego part mixes, either directly in an accidental factory mix-up, or (most likely) indirectly in the after-market by people innocently mixing them up in lots and selling them on, but there is also this worth considering:

Given that counterfeiters have no qualms about breaching regulations or laws. There is every possibility that the manufacturing process of counterfeit products may also make use of equally law-breaching (i.e hazardous) materials.

Personally, I steer clear of knock-offs (even legitimate 'works with' bricks) on the simple principle of not wanting to pollute my Lego collection, but if that wasn't a bother, there is the lack of any genuine guarantee that what you are handling has passed any health regulations.

These are from a company that is selling 'lego like' figures, the problem is they are using unauthorized copies of figures and artwork that LEGO has done. I doubt DC or Marvel would like this nor would LEGO as there is an agreement between LEGO and DC/Marvel to produce these figures. I doubt this other company can say the same. The people making custom figures for sale should be gone after too (and pretty sure LEGO, or the license holders have in the past in the US), but most if not all are out of LEGOs reach (in a country that does not regulate copyrights/patents) or they are 'one-offs' that LEGO does not want to take the time to go after -not sure why. I would have a feeling Lucas.. err Disney would be interested to see movie/comic characters being made with LEGO figures that are not officially licensed as well.
There is a world of difference between making a custom figure for personal use and trying to sell figures using licensed material.
  • Missing_Pieces_15Missing_Pieces_15 Member Posts: 17
This is unfortunately not an isolated case. I've seen knock off or customs that are nearly identical. If you know what you're looking for it's easy to spot a fake. But unfortunately as the price of some of the older mini figs go up people look to other sources for the one super hero fig they don't want to spend $60.00 on. The plastic and printing surely are not to the same quality of genuine lego. But if it looks extremely close then it will get by a few. Then it's only a matter of time until you or I could buy one or several from a reputable person.
  • BeavBeav Member Posts: 303
I'm fine with custom figures of characters that lego likely won't ever make, they're made with genuine lego parts and the printing is usually Fantastic. But these are just blatant copies of figures that exist, and would fool a fair few people who just wanted to get a Hulk for little timmy off eBay.

I think it was inevitable given the minifig boom that has rocketed the prices of most figures, people will always be looking to undercut that with fakes that cost half the price or, in the case of some of the SDCC fakes, 1/45th the price. Unless you're a hardcore collector, a lot will get the cheap fig that looks nearly identical.

It's sad, lego don't control the prices of the figures (although they sure don't help matters), but I think things like this were always likely to happen.

Has anyone seen the new Batman/Penguin set or the Joker Steamroller set in stores yet? I thought those would be available today but I can't find them online at Lego/Walmart/Amazon. Thought I might check stores if others had seen them on the shelves.
  • joel4motionjoel4motion Member Posts: 959
The two sets above are both on UK [email protected] but can't be found through the superhero tab. I found them by searching product numbers a couple of days ago...
  • FrictionPinFrictionPin Member Posts: 144
Unfortunately they cannot be found on the US site by set numbers or other searching I did. So I made the trip to town, 70 mile round trip. Went to a small Walmart and a Supercenter. Nothing in the way of new sets except for the Lego Movie stuff. I did pick up the last Arctic Batman set to have another but mostly it was wasted effort but I kinda figured that would be the case before I left. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

I noticed that neither of these showed up in the LEGO (US) calendar that I got yesterday. So, I'm thinking they aren't being released right now in the US. Also, none of the new Star Wars sets were in the catalog. LEGO seems to be going balls out to promote The LEGO Movie right now. Everything else is just there.
