I was only half serious ;)

I plan on buying at least 3 Cantinas. Looks like I can build a Lars Family Homestead with the extra pieces.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
I think a Lars Family Homestead playset would do well. It could be about the same size as the old Cantina playset, but instead of a Landspeeder, they would have the Lars family speeder. Replace the Dewback with a Bantha and I think the set will fly off the shelves.

Just looking at the set makes you wonder if...(snip)...there will be Power functions included?

I wondered the same thing. The whole technique-like internal construction is somewhat reminiscent of the walking At-At, and given the (rumoured/confirmed?) high asking price I asked myself the same; Could there be a power function aspect to this set we're not seeing here...?

On the one hand, Jawas don't wear capes. On the other hand, the LEGO Jawas look absolutely ridiculous without them.

True. It's one of those Lego quirks, of something technically wrong feeling right. Jawas never did wear capes, and Jedi don't wear capes either (robes), but without some floppy cloth-y something flapping about, these gown/robe-wearing figs feel a bit incomplete. That little cloth cape managed to represent those folds of material just enough to feel right. I'm ambivalent on the subject myself. If i feel the fig needs a cape after closer inspection, I'll seek to add one.

It's odd how Aragorn (who does have an actual cloak) never got one in lego form.

I'd rather no eyes than big ol' yellow (eyes).

What? No love for the dulcet tones of Mr Data? ;oP

Is anyone watching The Clone Wars (season 6)? It's really good.
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
^Yup. Finished it over the weekend. For as awful as I think the PT was, that show was very good, and, though I understand why Disney axed it from a business standpoint, I still think it's a shame (and a little spiteful) that they've abandoned it.

Santa Vader in the advent calendar is the best one yet for me. Especially the "Dad" part.

OH YEAH!! Finished a week ago and started over again last night.

@y2josh I agree with you: I have all the Hasbro Clone versions (and most of the other figures too) up to last year and would have like to see both Hasbro and Lego continue with Clone Wars Figures and Sets with updated armor and change to 5s Tops etc..

    It almost makes sense ;-)

#75055 Does Vader get a new head?

This part is in that set.

    image

And it doesn't fit with any of the other minifigs.

Edit: I just checked the instructions - he does.

^from just that image I'd have assumed it was an Emperor head. Always picture Vader as pale under the helmet
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
I thought it was the new emperor one too, which is also tan. It looks like they are moving away from LBG for both of them.

What's up with the insane prices for the summer sets in Europe?? Snowspeeder with 279 pieces: €44,99! B-wing with 448 pieces: €64,99! Mos Eisley Cantina with 616 pieces: €89,99! I like these sets, I really do, but this is just too much. I feel like they've increased the prices by 25-40% for this batch. Unacceptable

That's because he was pale in ROTJ.

^Quite pale in the snippet you see from behind in ESB too.
It's yet more slight meddling to make the (false and horrible) prequels seem like they really do tie in naturally, and it doesn't really work. Still, I'll just leave his helmet on and it won't matter either way! :P

Medium Stone Grey isn't really any more pale than Brick Yellow (tan), honestly, and neither is that much more pale than Light Nougat. Honestly, I think Brick Yellow looks slightly closer to how I remember his head appearing in ESB, and all the screenshots I'm finding via Google Image Search seem to be backing me up on that. If you wanted him to be as pale as he appeared in RotJ, white would probably be the best color on the current palette, but I think a certain amount of that paleness was a result of mood lighting — I trust the brief snippet in ESB for his skin's true color.

Speaking of which, wouldn't it be great if the new head had back printing for those scars? Probably doesn't, but still...

It seems like I'm going to need to stock up on the old minifig heads... I'm not sure what they've been thinking with these new ones, but Han in the A-Wing, Luke in the Sandcrawler and now this new (highly inaccurate) Vader head are all quite bad.

The brief shot that we see of the back of Vader's head in ESB is one of the reasons that film is so great. It leaves so much to your imagination. It's easy to imagine Vader looking much more disfigured and menacing than his kind and gentle old man face in RotJ.

Good point, I guess I meant washed out and colourless rather than pale. That tiny shot does look slightly yellow, though he is in the middle of a very brightly and unnaturally lit chamber so adjusting for that I still think there's too much colour in this head.
(Back scars would be insane!! *drools at the thought*)

And conversely there's my reason for hating the CGI-bloated midichlorian-filled prequels, Jar-Jar aside! ;)

Not vader. Not Palpatine either, but looks more like the latter than the former
  • vitreolumvitreolum Member Posts: 1,406
That printing is weird, it looks as if he's wearing a robe. Looks to me as if the mixed palpatine and vader in one.
  • bobabricksbobabricks Member Posts: 1,842
I like the new torso and leg print because they added in the waist cape but the head is another story. It kind of looks like darth malgus's head in tan which frankly I would have just rather have malgus's grey head...

He is, and he does in the film. He wears a narrow robe inside the cape.

The head was discussed a while ago.

It has been shown as different colours in the original films, presumably down to lighting.

The colour is obviously a problem given it has to be an official lego colour. The markings, well, I find them quite accurate to the second picture above.

Funny, I never noticed that robe until now.

I think prequel Vader wore trousers not a robe - but I may be wrong. I remember something about him the EPIII artwork being different and I think that was it.

Incidentally, one of the photos of Sebastian Shaw as Darth Vader on this site shows him under what can be assumed to be normal lighting, and his face seems to very much resemble the new minifigure. However, no telling where that image came from.

Frankly, what bothers me most about the new minifigure is the expression. It goes without saying that a stern expression like that is probably what Vader would have worn under the helmet for most of his appearances, but I think a more neutral expression might have been better in order to match the expression he wore the one time you actually see his face without the helmet. Like this post–RotS Vader, but with eyebrows, more accurate facial wrinkles and less of a deer-in-the-headlights look.

To be fair, though, it makes little sense to complain about the face this time when I never really cared about the expression on previous Vader figs. I suppose an angry/stern expression helps kids relate to him better as a "bad guy".

I'm more concerned that they have not made a Vader with only the ventilator section remaining (battle damaged from the rouge shadow set is a joke to me) but it'd be nice to see his face the way it is when Luke pulls the helm off. (image 2 above) I mean that's the only way he has ever been viewed without the full helm.

I thought the Rogue Shadow set's designers were quite clever to use an Aquazone visor for his ventilator, especially since that part hadn't been in sets for nearly a decade.

Are you thinking that the ventilator would be better as printed detail on the face, or as a dedicated new element? I wouldn't be too keen on the latter, but the former might definitely be neat for a future fig design, since that way he'd have the ventilator on right when you remove the helmet instead of having to remove the head to attach the ventilator. The disadvantage with that is that he'd be left with a band of skin on his neck and chin since the bottom part of the minifigure head couldn't be printed a solid color.

Rumour has it that the new Han Solo minifig is going to have a cracked foot like Benny's helmet strap. :-)

I was thinking it would be a printed detail, though I did weigh the skin strip issue as well. neither option is flawless but printed is probably best. a new helm and vent combo could be interesting as well. having the neck piece fit with the helm so that only using both do you get a complete Vader (dreaming here I'm sure) either way, that's what I'd prefer

side note: I did like the way the Aquazone was used for battle damage, but I felt it is to big for the ventilator only.

I'm not sure. I'm wondering if it's been pushed back. Low stock of Tumbler suggests it was brought forward at short notice to fill an unexpected void.
