There are rumors about the 2014 advent calendar on EB, if anyone is interested. I won't post details here, given the nature of the set.

I'm hoping for some flick missiles. And out of Han and Greedo, who flicks first?

Luke Skywalker minifigure in the upcoming DK Visual Dictionary:

Any guesses as to what variation it might be?

I'm guessing that it might have a cape (which would explain why you have to build it)....
  • binaryeyebinaryeye Member Posts: 1,831
I hope it's not something obscure like Luke with hat and goggles from the Tosche Station deleted scene. But I fully expect something like that. I'd much rather see something more useful like Bespin, Dagobah, or Endor.

I'm kind of bummed they didn't use the Snowspeeder as an opportunity to release a new Wedge, but I can understand why Luke is included. Unless the B-Wing comes with a unrelated but desirable character, I'll probably pass on it. The Cantina has eight minifigures! Unfortunately one of them is Obi-Wan, but perhaps this means we'll get Ponda Baba. Judging by this info and the leaked image, there will be three spots left after Ben, Luke, Greedo, Han, and a Sandtrooper. I'm pulling for Wuher.

Spring-loaded shooters, anyone? I'm surprised the Cantina doesn't have one.

My thoughts exactly on the Snowspeeder. Wedge and Janson were the two that actually tripped the AT-AT yet never have been in a speeder set. Especially since we just had a speeder with Luke in the Battle of Hoth set, it would seem to make more sense.

Yes! More R2-D2 variations! We don't have enough! In every set, it's always the same one! How about Tatooine R2, Dagobah R2, Hoth R2, Celebration R2, Chrome R2, Chrome R2 with bells on, etc etc... :P

Based on information from the London Toy Fair, it sounds like these will be the minifigures included with the cantina: Greedo, Han, Luke, Obi-Wan, a Sandtrooper, and three members of the Modal Nodes.

It's too bad Ponda Baba doesn't make an appearance, especially considering Obi-Wan's inclusion. But I suppose the band may not have looked particularly band-like with only two members.

On the positive side, it sounds like Nien Nunb might be included with the B-Wing.
  • pvancil27pvancil27 Member Posts: 588
Nien Nunb was "TECHNICALLY" in the last B-Wing, but look horrible.
  • binaryeyebinaryeye Member Posts: 1,831
    ^ Wasn't that Ten Numb?

On further reading, it sounds like it may be Ten Numb (not Nien Nunb) in the new B-Wing, as well, just in a red flight suit.

There's a description on FBTB regarding some of the sets.

In cantina "We get 3 Bith figures, for the band (so you’ll need to buy two to get the whole band) and the Sand Trooper, Luke and Obi Wan figures all looked to have new prints." No mention of Greedo or Han.

AT and ISD will be smaller but sturdier than the older ones.

In the comments at FBTB, the person who wrote the article said "yes" when asked whether Greedo was in the set. Huw's article here at Brickset also mentions that both Greedo and Han are included. Also, Han is depicted in the leaked preliminary image and mentioned in the product description.

Noticed that now, that's a nice amount of minifigs there. Add the dewback to that and it's gonna be minifig heaven even if the build is subpar.

This doesn't leave me especially hopeful that all six members will have their respective instruments...
  • legomattlegomatt Member Posts: 2,548
At £65 it (cantina) sounds overpriced. Made all the more galling that they've (effectively, if not exactly) dumped almost the entire recent speeder set into it.

If they wanted to redo the speeder, I would have much preferred a Ben's hovel & Sand People attack set. The speeder and hovel making a nice brick build, and those much wanted Sand People & Bantha.

Which would allow the Cantina to lower the price/attract speeder-owners, OR fill out with more unusual characters, OR have an improved build with extra tatooine sub-buildings. Any or all of which would encourage people to buy several copies.

Luke Ben Speeder et all will ensure I buy one at most, (if not just buy figs separate and make my own cantina if the build is really bad).

I have to say £35 for a snowspeeder is beyond crazy, the whole wampa cave and speeder set were the same price only 3 yrs ago. It's especially hard to swallow when based on Dr Dave's comments from the London Toy Fair that it is only slightly different from previous versions.

^ I think that is a good summation of the entire OT part of the line. All the sets seem to have high prices tags but all seem to be smaller in size than their originals (I am not mentioning piece count as i am not sure where that sits old to new). I am sure the new figures will be lovely. But in essence there is not one new OT set here, all are more expensive that their previous incarnations and from what can be read about them none are vastly improved on their previous incarnations.

This won't stop me grabbing the sets i missed out on first time around but i completely understand why a lot of people who already have all of these sets might take a pass.

I have said this a lot but for me this is the end of Lego OT sets being part of main release waves. From 2015 onwards it will all be about the new shows and films which will be cranked out by Disney with Mon Calamari Shipyard like efficency.

On the flip side this might mean OT sets are restriced to May 4th Promo time and UCS, which could mean 1 or 2 'big' items a year, might be the only way we see a Bespin set :)

I'd consider the cantina new. It has three times the pieces of the old version and is more substantial. Aside from the dewback and landspeeder, the old set was basically a doorway and alcove. The new version has a fully enclosed entryway, at least two alcoves, a bar, and I believe some exterior detail in the form of a moisture vaporator.

^ Fair point, all sets are new from a design point of view but they have all existed on one for or other before, so not 'new'. Your comment did make me go and do a little research so as to present a fairer view point on my comment rather than just opionion and when you stack the 2014 items up against their last version it actually doesn't look too bad:

    Cantina:
    Old version 2004, £27.99, 193 peices
    New version 2014, £64.99, 615 peices

    B-Wing
    Old version 2005, £24.99, 435 peices
    New version 2014, £49.99, 448 peices

    Star Destroyer
    Old version 2006, £79.99, 1367 peices
    New veersion 2014, £119.99, 1359 peices

    AT-AT
    Old version 2010, £91.99, 815 peices
    New version 2014, £109.99, 1138 peices

Snowspeeder (last set to have a speeder on its own, no not wampa cave etc)
    Old version 2004, £19.99, 214 peices
    New version 2014, £34.99, 278 peices

Based on the data rather than my perception i would say the Cantina does look like a fair deal, tripple the peices for just over double the price as @binaryeye says.
The B-Wing is on dodgy ground, 13 additional peices but double the price.
The Star Destroyer is also on dodgy gorund as it is ledd peices and £40 more
The AT-AT could be OK, several hundred more pieces and only £20 more
The Snowspeeder is harder to gauge, 60+ extra peices and £15 more than the last stand alone speeder, but the price and peice count is very comarable to Wampa Cave version (£35.99 & 297 peices) so lets see.

Based on the data i would say the B-Wing and Star Destroyer look hard sells, the snowspeeder could go either way but the Cantina and AT-AT look good.

Now that is all written from data and doesn't factor in imporved designs, new figs and parts etc. and i am happy to say publicaly that the Star Destoryer, B-Wing and Cantina will all be heading my way as i missed them first time around.

So as for my original statment that we are paying more for less, that is only true in 1 set but the price to peice increase in 2 others looks bad. Happy to stand partially corrected :)

^ I agree. I think the old one was rubbish as a cantina. An arch, and one booth made from two large curved pieces with many little pieces for fairly unnecessary colour detail. The whole cantina is, what, 40-50 pieces?

    As a reminder ...

    image

The new one is much more substantial and has booths, the doorway, the fold out playability. Obviously not substantial enough, but they have to meet the price point. It is a shame they repeat the landspeeder, given how recent that is.
  • suprajamessuprajames Member Posts: 366
I will prob get most of these new sets, might hold fire on the B-Wing as I have the older set, can not find a boxed 8129 AT-AT for under £150, so happily buy the new one, along with the SD and Cantina, even though I have just bought the newer Landspeeder set off Ebay 20 minutes ago.

Star Destroyer and Cantina are obvious buys for me (I was in DA when first SD came around). Everything else is more "wait and see"

I'm looking forward to the AT-AT because I missed the previous models. As long as it's on par with the last one (good but not great) I will be happy. I wish they would have given us an all out Cantina with lots of minifigs. All of these sets will be heavily discounted come Christmas 2014 so I wouldn't worry too much about RRP if you're willing to hold out.

How does that motorised AT AT fit in in terms of quality? I missed both previous AT ATs, which looks to be the best model? Is it worth trying to buy/bricklink one of the old ones or best to wait for the new one if I want a nice AT AT display model?

As an aside, for price difference you really need to factor in inflation too. For example, the AT AT was £91.99 4 years ago, and is £109.99 now with 313 more pieces but the old price is equivalent to £99.87 now, so effectively for £10 more you're getting 313 more pieces. That's a bargain in comparison no?
  • RomanticWarriorRomanticWarrior Member Posts: 248
I'm a big fan of the motorized AT-AT. It was one of the more fun builds I've done, just watching the inner workings come together. It's the only one I have, but based on pictures, I think it looks better than 8129. I'm not really expecting the 2014 model to look any better than 8129.

I’ve always preferred the look of my motorised AT-AT to the other versions – I think it’s the legs, I really don’t like the legs on the newer one. It was my first "real" SW Lego purchase after I bought Vader's Advanced Tie on a whim while on holiday in Vegas. The AT-AT cost me £56 from Argos in the sale - bargain.

That actually is good news, IMHO... It means that it will likely be done, if not right, well enough...

Nothing worse than a half done UCS set. If this is worthy of the title, I'll be a happy camper.

Why 3,200? UCS SSD is $400 and it doesn't have 3,200 parts.

    I'm expecting 2,800 parts, but we'll see.

^^ You are probably right , TLG seems to be shy about breaking the 3k barrier these days , but as for SSD , yes the pice count does not match the dollar mark , but you have agree there are a large number of plates used in that and i suppose it all comes down to the weight in plastic .

The Sand Crawler probably wont be as plate centric as the SSD, however you are probably right we might be looking about 2900 pieces .. no PF though.
