Any guesses as to what variation it might be?
My thoughts exactly on the Snowspeeder. Wedge and Janson were the two that actually tripped the AT-AT yet never have been in a speeder set. Especially since we just had a speeder with Luke in the Battle of Hoth set, it would seem to make more sense.
'Family Guy' R2
Trench Run 'head wound' R2,
Prequels suddenly-has-flame-thrower-feet R2...
What an untapped goldmine... Who'd of thought we had another 'Han' in the waiting.
;o)
Not really that impressive is it! :o(
It's too bad Ponda Baba doesn't make an appearance, especially considering Obi-Wan's inclusion. But I suppose the band may not have looked particularly band-like with only two members.
On the positive side, it sounds like Nien Nunb might be included with the B-Wing.
On further reading, it sounds like it may be Ten Numb (not Nien Nunb) in the new B-Wing, as well, just in a red flight suit.
In cantina "We get 3 Bith figures, for the band (so you’ll need to buy two to get the whole band) and the Sand Trooper, Luke and Obi Wan figures all looked to have new prints." No mention of Greedo or Han.
AT and ISD will be smaller but sturdier than the older ones.
If they wanted to redo the speeder, I would have much preferred a Ben's hovel & Sand People attack set. The speeder and hovel making a nice brick build, and those much wanted Sand People & Bantha.
Which would allow the Cantina to lower the price/attract speeder-owners, OR fill out with more unusual characters, OR have an improved build with extra tatooine sub-buildings. Any or all of which would encourage people to buy several copies.
Luke Ben Speeder et all will ensure I buy one at most, (if not just buy figs separate and make my own cantina if the build is really bad).
This won't stop me grabbing the sets i missed out on first time around but i completely understand why a lot of people who already have all of these sets might take a pass.
I have said this a lot but for me this is the end of Lego OT sets being part of main release waves. From 2015 onwards it will all be about the new shows and films which will be cranked out by Disney with Mon Calamari Shipyard like efficency.
On the flip side this might mean OT sets are restriced to May 4th Promo time and UCS, which could mean 1 or 2 'big' items a year, might be the only way we see a Bespin set :)
Cantina:
Old version 2004, £27.99, 193 peices
New version 2014, £64.99, 615 peices
B-Wing
Old version 2005, £24.99, 435 peices
New version 2014, £49.99, 448 peices
Star Destroyer
Old version 2006, £79.99, 1367 peices
New veersion 2014, £119.99, 1359 peices
AT-AT
Old version 2010, £91.99, 815 peices
New version 2014, £109.99, 1138 peices
Snowspeeder (last set to have a speeder on its own, no not wampa cave etc)
Old version 2004, £19.99, 214 peices
New version 2014, £34.99, 278 peices
Based on the data rather than my perception i would say the Cantina does look like a fair deal, tripple the peices for just over double the price as @binaryeye says.
The B-Wing is on dodgy ground, 13 additional peices but double the price.
The Star Destroyer is also on dodgy gorund as it is ledd peices and £40 more
The AT-AT could be OK, several hundred more pieces and only £20 more
The Snowspeeder is harder to gauge, 60+ extra peices and £15 more than the last stand alone speeder, but the price and peice count is very comarable to Wampa Cave version (£35.99 & 297 peices) so lets see.
Based on the data i would say the B-Wing and Star Destroyer look hard sells, the snowspeeder could go either way but the Cantina and AT-AT look good.
Now that is all written from data and doesn't factor in imporved designs, new figs and parts etc. and i am happy to say publicaly that the Star Destoryer, B-Wing and Cantina will all be heading my way as i missed them first time around.
So as for my original statment that we are paying more for less, that is only true in 1 set but the price to peice increase in 2 others looks bad. Happy to stand partially corrected :)
As a reminder ...
The new one is much more substantial and has booths, the doorway, the fold out playability. Obviously not substantial enough, but they have to meet the price point. It is a shame they repeat the landspeeder, given how recent that is.
As an aside, for price difference you really need to factor in inflation too. For example, the AT AT was £91.99 4 years ago, and is £109.99 now with 313 more pieces but the old price is equivalent to £99.87 now, so effectively for £10 more you're getting 313 more pieces. That's a bargain in comparison no?
What does it do, cook breakfast?!
:oO
Nothing worse than a half done UCS set. If this is worthy of the title, I'll be a happy camper.
I'm expecting 2,800 parts, but we'll see.
The Sand Crawler probably wont be as plate centric as the SSD, however you are probably right we might be looking about 2900 pieces .. no PF though.
