Star Wars 2014

There has been a lot of discussion over at Eurobricks about the rumored Star Wars sets for 2014. These are the sets, from an apparently reliable source. All credit for the information goes to darth_tater and CM4S at Eurobricks.

75034 Death Star Troopers (Battle Pack)
75035 Kashyyyk Troopers (Battle Pack)
75036 Utapau Troopers (Battle Pack)
75037 Battle on Saleucami (Battle Pack)
73038 Jedi Interceptor (Anakin's Yellow)
75039 V-Wing Starfighter
75040 General Grievous' Wheel Bike
75041 Vulture Droid
75042 Droid Gunship
75043 AT-AP
75044 Droid Tri-Fighter
75045 Republic AV-7 Anti-Vehicle Cannon
75046 Coruscant Police Gunship

It's also rumored there will be a new line replacing the planet series. They will include a minifigure, but the vehicles will be larger (similar in size to the recent Comic-Con exclusives such as Luke's Landspeeder) and may feature flick-fire missiles. There are apparently "up to 19" sets planned for this line.

75028 Clone Turbo Tank
75029 AAT
75030 Millennium Falcon
75031 TIE Interceptor
75032 X-Wing Fighter
75033 Imperial Star Destroyer

Kashyyyk Troopers sound like a fantastic battle pack but another V-Wing? Didn't the last one just EOL in 2012? I thought I knew my Star Wars but I guess I am off to look up what the heck Saleucami is.

Remakes, remakes aaaaand more remakes. They aren't even going to leave a gap between the MF and Xwing and just rererererelease them straight away?

Those last six sets aren't System-scale.

    Those are the planet ones?

    Yawn.

Given the terrible minifigure selection in the most recent AT-TE and Republic Gunship, I have my fingers crossed that an Utapau battlepack isn't going to be two dudes and some droids. I'm talking 100% clonetroopers baby!

As big of a fan of Star Wars that I am, that is a VERY weak lineup for 2014. Only interesting items are the battle packs and maybe the Coruscant police ship. The AV-7 cannon just looks like a bigger version of the cannon recentlt available in a battle pack.

I'll withhold final judgment until we see the actual product pics, but it does not look very promising.

These sets do not fill me with excitement, although Grievous' Wheel Bike and the Battle Packs sound pretty good to me. The Coruscant Police Gunship is a bit of a mystery really, we will have to wait and see what becomes of that one.

Not a single minifig scale OT set?! That seems strange. So many remakes! the battle packs sound pretty cool though.

We finally get Phase II Clone building?!
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,730
I wonder if the cancellation of Clone Wars threw a wrench in their plans for '14. Perhaps they pulled some season 6 sets that were being developed and had to last-minute fill some slots.

Well, as an OT fan, I'm quite pleased that this is going to be cheap year and I can concentrate on other lines.

    Death Star Troopers?

@CapnRex101 I vaguely remember a police dropship thing featuring in one of the Republic Commandos short stories, but I forgot it's exact name and acronym when I stopped being a full-time Star Wars nerd...LAAT-something, I think (maybe this one: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Variable_Altitude_Assault_Transport/enforcement).
That or it's a clone gunship in black and white with flashy lights. Woohoo!
  • vitreolumvitreolum Member Posts: 1,406
^ I like the steampunk-ish look of that ship.

Death Star troopers BP sounds like OT.

Maybe the wow factor will come with exclusives not on this list. Personally, I have not been impressed with this year's Star Wars lineup, and next year looks to be more of the same.

@plasmodium - I was thinking it might be this vehicle: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Republic_police_gunship It is a rather obscure ship from the Clone Wars, although it looks interesting and might mean some useful Minifigures.

I never forget the acronyms, I am a Star Wars nerd and proud of it :o)
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ if you just google it you get this.
    starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Republic_police_gunship

I don't remember seeing it but it says it was in a Season 5 episode of Clone wars.

OK not a single interesting set there IMO. Too bad the SD is not a larger set, I got excited for a couple of minutes there.
  • edgarallanpoe1422edgarallanpoe1422 Member Posts: 131
Extremely disappointed. The only way these could be redeemed is if they innovate with the scales of some of the crafts they're re-releasing. If the Grievous wheel bike is a nice big set with north of 1000 pieces (maybe even with a constructed to-scale Grievous?) using lots of small parts to make the wheel sections and some intricate mechanics, it might get me interested. I fully expect it, however, to be on the same scale as #7255 General Grievous Chase.

Same with the various starfighters. We've had two minifig scale droid tri-fighters/vulture droids and *lots* of minifig scale jedi fighters, but if perhaps they break the mould and bump some of those up a bit out of minifig scale, I might be interested. Seriously not holding my breath though, looks like we're going to get another rash of those uninspiring little fighter sets priced for parents looking for decent-sized presents that don't break the bank.

I guess I missed the Death Star Troopers battle pack.
  • BeavBeav Member Posts: 303
Hmm, nothing really there that excites me. Battle packs might be alright, interested to see the Grevious bike.

Mini Millennium Falcon is a must though.

I want to know what the 2014 UCS models for Star Wars will be. Disappointed that they're stopping the Planet series.
  • chuxtoyboxchuxtoybox Member Posts: 711
Even the last SW movie is eight years old already. What else can they do but remake the same vehicles over and over, besides making things so obscure you would have to be a bigger SW nerd than CapnRex101 to know them? :)

I was going to say that Disney better come out with that new movie quick or Lego's going to run out of new material to work with now that Clone Wars is over, but I guess there's going to be another CG show before the new movie?

Off topic but still SW: Han Solo in new movie a good thing or a bad thing? I say good. It's Harrison Ford!

If it's true, I won't be disappointed. I like the concept of a small build and related minifigure, but I don't like the planet component. They aren't very useful as parts and they're difficult to store.

75028 Clone Turbo Tank -- WIN with the right trooper
75029 AAT -------------- Should be a nice model, but Battle Droid?
75030 Millennium Falcon -- WIN ; Lando? hmmmmmmm? surely, not another chewie or han.
    75031 TIE Interceptor ------ Fail.
    75032 X-Wing Fighter ----- Fail.
75033 Imperial Star Destroyer -WIN, as long as it's not the same one as the poly. Moff? would that be hoping too much?

I don't mind the redoing of older sets, I mean honestly look at the sets from a few years ago and tell me that the redo's don't always look so much better than they did. Take Grevious Wheel. That was a cool set but could have been so much more. I look forward to these sets and will be getting a few of each of the battle pack sets those are great for army building.
  • plasmodiumplasmodium Member Posts: 1,956
@Capnrex101 - that sounds much more likely - they're far more likely to pick an obscure CW vehicle than an obscure non-CW vehicle. I only saw the first three series of CW, and it says that one comes in the 5th series, so no wonder I never heard of it!

Speaking of OT, what from the OT hasn't been done in system scale yet?

The Mon Calamari Cruiser and the Nebulon-B Frigate both come quick to mind...

Has a Yavin IV base been done? What about the Cloud Car?

Cloud City and the Mos Eisley Cantina have been done, but poorly and a long time ago, both of those are screaming for remakes...

Rebels (the new animated show) is scheduled to start in the fall of 2014. I imagine some sets will be based on it.

A good thing only if the new series is set 30 years after the end of ROTJ.

Likewise, but I hope it's not all DS troopers. I'm hoping for two troopers and two Stormtroopers, but that's probably unrealistic. I wouldn't be surprised if they throw in a DS gunner to sell the set, but that's a minifigure I could live without.

  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
Yeah, two different ones, with maybe a stormtrooper and an officer would be great.

I have the minifig and model on a shelf and hang the planet underneath. With the small plaques I thought they were great little display pieces and I really like matching the minis with their UCS counterparts. I feel there was scope for a further half a dozen, maybe I'll just have to buy up some cheap ones and make my own Utapau, Mustafa and Corellia.

Hadnt even thought about that. Ill be pretty annoyed if its another Han, but id love either a new Chewbacca or a Lando. It'll probably be C-3PO now though.
  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
^ I was just brainstorming what possible minifig would go with MF that would sell the set. I guess, they could still put in a C3PO, and it would STILL sell just because of the vehicle.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556

Yavin IV base hasn't been done though the little cart that the pilots rode on the back of came with the first X-Wing back in 1999. Cloud Car was done in 2002 but it came with Lobot instead of a pilot so that's something that needs addressing. New versions of the TIE Bomber, TIE Interceptor, Imperial Shuttle, Cantina and Cloud City could probably be made. A new printed dewback would be nice.

As you said the Mon Calamari cruiser and Nebulon-B Frigate haven't been made in any form (though I think the former is just too ugly and boring to make and the latter is better suited to UCS only). Still no Bantha, Lars Farm, TIE shuttle or Rebel Transport have thus far been produced either. There's also that creature, the Ronto(?), from the Episode IV Special Edition that was added and is basically just a modified dinosaur from Jurassic Park.

An underwhelming list to say the least. I doubt I will get any of these. Still its worth consoling ourselves with the knowledge that we don't usually see the good Star Wars sets until the summer wave.

I would guess the Falcon would come with Han. And I'd be on board with the X-Wing if it came with a pilot that wasn't Luke... specifically a fleshie Biggs Darklighter.

Other than that, I'm only interested in the Death Star Troopers battle pack... and even then... only if it has at least three stormtroopers.

Look at all these sets I have no interest in! I'm so happy I'll be saving money next year. Bummer, I was hoping for a new minifig-scale TIE. New TIE Bomber with proper scale and color scheme, anyone? Hoping the Death Star battlepack will have a new minifigure or two... Imperial gunner, scanning crewman, Spacetrooper, Dark Trooper... Probably getting my hopes up, but we did get a Blackhole Stormtrooper in the last battle pack.

Interested to see what the revamped planet-less planet sets will look like.

I may be alone in my desire to have A LOT more standard stormtroopers versus the way too many scouts and snowtroopers I have... but I'd prefer this set to be mainly stormtroopers with maybe a Death Star Trooper and Imperial officer at most. Stormtroopers are way too hard to come by inexpensively for as numerous as they should be.

^ You're not alone! I would like to have 3 stormtroopers and maybe an officer or something like that. Same with the Kashyyyk troopers pack, 3 clone scouts and baybe an new wookie warrior. and with the Utapau pack hopefully we get a phase 2 Cody and 3 of his troopers. After all, they are army builders right?
    Bring on the troopers!
