    ^You already got a Rivendell #79006

Ok, you got a microscopic fragment of Rivendell.

Silly thing I want....white or grey hobbit hair to make old Bilbo...would love to set up the last scene at the grey havens (still need Galadriel)

Can we actually expect much with regards to set design in these? It is pretty clear, even from just the comments in this thread that the minifigures are the biggest draw for LOTR & Hobbit sets (and for that matter most License themes). We have seen TLG seminally being compliant with this need\want by releasing more exclusive figures and the number of sets that have very basic builds to accompany multiple figures.

These sets really are for the minifigure collector, if you are more just into the build\display side of Lego than I think baring a few exceptions you will be disappointed with these sets.

I do realise that these books\movies are very much story and character driven so it makes sense that the characters are front and centre.

^I stopped expecting much from the licensed sets a long while ago, but Eowyn is the ONE figure I've been clamoring for since the first wave, so if I can get her... great.

That said, though I think it would be difficult to screw up Amon Hen versus what expectations for such a set would be... I agree that a $120 Minas Tirith would be unbelievably lackluster and possibly be more disappointing to me personally than even Helm's Deep which (versus expectations) is actually my second least favorite set of the entire line (put three of them together, though, and this is rectified easily enough).

They are also good as parts packs for MOCs. I've bought a few Mines of Moria and Helms Deep for exactly that reason. Not for the set itself, but for the parts. After selling off the minifigs, these work out cheaper than buying similar non-licensed sets such as the Kings Castle.

Of course you need the draw of the minifigs to be able to shift them.

I actually quite like that Laketown set. How much is it again...?

    Thanks Grogall!
The Mirkwood elf set also looks good - small set for 6 minifigs and quite a few interesting looking parts. I'm assuming this one will come in at a similar price point to the two LOTR Orc army sets.

Seeing those only makes me want those sets more. Any word on what day these are released yet? Kinda hoping their release coincides with Brick Friday/Cyber Monday weekend offers in the UK... :-)

Ah, a double catapult. A new twist on an old classic!

@Hardrada - I was holding judgement until a better image. You are right, Thranduil's ears have been lowered to chin level, which is rather odd. But he does have Lee Pace's sexy eyebrows! The elven shield design is elegant and they did give us an extra one on the building.

Another thing apparently Peter Jackson decided that SleevesAreForWimps. See film Beorn image here.

Beorn looks so...80's. There is no other way to describe it.

^But he looks John Carpenter 80s vs. Footloose 80s, which I think is actually a good thing.

Very much looking forward to get many many copies of the elvish army. Slightly disappointed we got more hoods instead of some more generic looking elves complete with ears..oh well.

^^^Now this set looks okay, but the minifigures really make it shine. Radagast! Azog! The Necromancer!
  • epyon396epyon396 Member Posts: 268
I learned my lesson from the previous Hobbit wave. I'll wait until they're all 40% off.
The only one I might buy asap is Dol Guldur. I need those minifigs :l
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
No sign of these in the wild yet? Wasn't it Kmart that got wave one in early last year?
  • JerseyManiacJerseyManiac Member Posts: 10
I just found all 4 sets at my TRU in New Jersey. I got the Dol Guldur Battle and Mirkwood sets. They would not ring up at the register, saying they were not on sale until December. This is of course ridiculous as TRU ALWAYS gets set this early. But they were not in the system yet. The good thing about that is when not entered the system, the price checker assigns the normal lego price and NOT the ripp off TRU price.

They did not have Ninjago or anything else new. So you folks in the US...GO!

^Was there an advertisement for new LOTR sets in the back of the instruction manuals?

It wouldn't ring up, but they sold it to you anyway? Did a manager have to override it?
  • JerseyManiacJerseyManiac Member Posts: 10
Kind of. I just went to customer service and they took care of it. She priced both of them, and then I'm not sure what she did.

I'm I really the only one that found them so far?
  • JerseyManiacJerseyManiac Member Posts: 10
I think it is utterly ridiculous that toys have release dates anyway.

Nope, lots are already on eBay. Is there an advertisement for 2014 LOTR sets in the instructions?

  • DeathleechDeathleech Member Posts: 8
I tried to buy them at my local TRU and they refused to sell them because they had a do not sell until Dec 1st warning come up apparently, even though their prices and everything were listed on the shelves.

Does the instruction booklet for any of the sets have an advertisement in the back for a 2014 summer Lord of the Ring wave?
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432

They had them at my TRU as well. I picked up one of each. A manager had to come over to override the 'street date' warning. I'll be taking photos of the figs this weekend. I can confirm the Azog is tan (dunno if there was any doubt remaining).

No advertisement for 2014 Lord of the Rings, but there is an advertisement for a LEGO The Hobbit videogame for Spring 2014 (Xbox Live, Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation, PC, Wii U as far as what's listed), as well as LEGO The Hobbit There and Back Again sets for 2014. It technically doesn't say anything about *sets*, but dunno what else the ad would be for. It also says "The journey concludes in 2014!"

Photos coming soon of the advertisements...

Hey thanks for the pics! One other question, is Beorn's hair piece permanently connected to his head or is it two pieces like a normal minifigure?
  • alexwilalexwil Member Posts: 376
That doesn't look good for lord of the rings then does it!
  • emilewskiemilewski Member Posts: 482
I wouldn't say that. They only have room for so much advertising, and this is Hobbit advertising future Hobbit theme sets. I still expect to see one more LOTR wave. *crosses fingers*

Yes, although many people are skeptical about those as they were images seen by a mate, who works for them but doesn't want it announced that he has leaked them, yet is perfectly happy to leak prices, set names and minifigs.

But suppose they keep it under covers as long as they did with Star wars this year, I wouldn't loose all hope just yet.

Lake town chase is online at TRU US.

  • klatu003klatu003 Member Posts: 729
^ Yes, I put that in my cart and was surprised that is was MSRP $49.99 with free shipping. Then I decided that I could wait and get it from some retailer that I like in a few weeks for MSRP. TRUs pricing policy is so abusive, that I just don't want to support their business model.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432

    It's one piece.

@sidersdd So... just to get it right - do you think this "JourneyConcludes"-add is saying that we are to expect a 3rd Hobbit wave, or that this 2nd wave is the conclusion?

3rd wave for sure! As wave 2 is a 2013 release!

@minifigman11 Well, doesn't it make sense that a 3rd Hobbit wave would be released summer 2014 with the movie, which would make a LOTR-3rd wave (if there be one) be released end 2014??
  • legomattlegomatt Member Posts: 2,548
This hobbit wave cannot be the end, we have no Smaug... which is largely the whole point of the movie, right?

I'd expect a third wave to tie in with the third film, featuring battle of five armies sets and smaug, at least.

Oh dear. Beorn will be enraged at all times. I expected a double faced head with a hair/beard piece like the dwarves. I think I will stick to using Hagrid for Beorn. Sigh.

^^^^ The Hobbit's finale will be out in December 2014, not summer. At least I'm pretty sure I saw that.
