Well how else will they crank out 3 films that are almost three hours each :)

@Bumblepants Check the production video (above), and the trailer for the next movie. He'll be in... Big time!

I need a fix of "The Hobbit" sets news. We have names and numbers, isn't it about time for some images to leak into the wild?

^ Oh My. Sounds like Peter Jackson has cut one of my favorite charming scenes from "The Hobbit", the serial arrival of the dwarfs at Beorn's house, in favor of ACTION. I suppose all the non-action scenes in the movie will be Legolas mooning around after Tauriel.

@icey117 - That trailer is fantastic. I want Thranduil's crown!

The box and those ^ two pics appear to be reddish brown where the 3rd pic on EB (which I believe is the same as the earlier teaser photo) appears to be dark brown. Getting some more pieces in dark brown would've been nice.

    Yes.

So after reading the descriptions is it possible we are getting the Witch King in these sets as opposed to a LOTRs set? I think that makes sense to me that we would get some of the characters that are in both series especially if it is true that there are no more LOTR sets.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
^ Depends what that Nazgul is. It would be a shame to still not get Eowyn though, and this would probably just about kill the idea.

These sets so ask to be purchased quickly! :-) Just hope they are not so rocky as they sound. We got Barrels and Mirkwood in the last wave, so I understand there might not be much material to come up with great new buildings from. But altogether we are now counting 3 Dol Guldur sets... which is ruins. And we have weathertop (ruin) and Riddles of the ring (rocks)!

Well, Just trying to say that we reaching our limit on how many rocks and tree's we need for our LEGO Middle Earth now. :-)
  • rancorbaitrancorbait Member Posts: 1,842
Nazgul? Does that mean we might get a fell beast?
  • vitreolumvitreolum Member Posts: 1,406
I don't like the sound of this: “white” orc similar to Yazneg (Azog?)

"three minifigures in the set: two orcs and some sort of soldier. There is also a grey rock. – ~$26.99"

This will probably retail for ~EUR 30 in Europe, I hope that's a BIG rock and includes some new orcs. Otherwise three MF's and some gray parts for that amount is insane.

I doubt it. This is taken from someone seeing blurred images in a catalogue. If you can make out the figure is a Nazgul, then you can probably make out a fell beast and it would have been mentioned.
  • legomattlegomatt Member Posts: 2,548
^Could it possibly have been Smaug (the dragon) that he mistook a fell beast for?

Smaug has been created as a largely dark/black colour from what I recall from the hobbit movie.
  • legomattlegomatt Member Posts: 2,548
Oh wait... i've read it now: 'Nazgul like creature' in the Dol Guldur set. Yeah, it'll be the 'necromancer-wraith-king of angmar' shadow-thingy that attacked/spooked Radaghast.

It'll probably look a lot like a dementor/black rider fig, with possibly a grey pointy 'crown' head piece (unless cowled).

  • dannyrwwdannyrww Member Posts: 1,394
I can live with them making just the head piece...even if the figure is more like a dementor...because you can put the head piece on one of the hooded ones from the weathertop set

It will be based on the movie, so it could very well be the Witch-king.

But in the books (well, the appendices, anyway), it's Sauron himself, aka The Necromancer, that inhabits Dol Guldur. The Witch-king was presumably still in Minas Morgul at the time, which he and the other Nazgûl had occupied for ~900 years before the events in The Hobbit.

Yeah. I kept a spare ringwraith for exactly that reason, just in case they mess up the Witch King's body when it is done.

True, I wasn't saying it was a crappy theme for sure - I love it. I'm just saying to get the things we love out of it, we gotta deal with a bunch of rocks and plants :)

You are quite right - but the one thing middle earth does have is bloody big armies! And we seem to be a bit short on the ground of those!!

Oooh, so there is a thread dedicated to The Hobbit that is alive and kicking!

A week and a half ago something drove me to write this rather long (and perhaps dreary) comment on The Hobbit on this thread:
    http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/comment/228173/#Comment_228173

So yes please! Give us sets with Elven armies; dwarf armies, orc/goblin armies, a battle pack with lake town soldiers. More battle packs with elves, and orcs, etc. A Beorn minifig & articulate Beorn bear, Warg size hogs! A Galadriel minifigure. Various versions of Sauron a.k.a. the necromancer. More LOTRsets. More rocks! More trees! More middle earth....more, more, more......

    ps.
Really curious what is set to happen in Dol Guldur in the second Hobbit film, as I do not recall it being a location of much importance in the book. Since, according to these rumours, there appear to be two future Hobbit Lego sets bearing Dol Guldur in their respective titles!?

Me too... in the book we just heard that Gandalf "fixed" something. In the appendix of LotR's we hear a bit more... but I guess that this will be an amazing thrilling part of the second movie! :-)
  • TheBigLegoskiTheBigLegoski Member Posts: 1,437
It is been such a long time ago, that I read LOTR in its entirety. I just grabbed it out from my bookcase. The appendix runs from page 1009 until 1112.
I just watched this clip (which I am not sure is part of the extra's on my 3D blueray 4 disc version of The Hobbit) on youtube, in which Peter Jackson also confirms what you just wrote:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNkskVqvQS4
Yeah I am definitely looking forward to watching the upcoming Hobbit movie in an IMAX theatre, aswell as getting a real glimpse of all the new Hobbit/LOTR Lego sets to come.

I'm surprised that no one has posted images yet, so here goes:
    http://www.lordofthebrick.com/2013/10/lego-the-hobbit-premiers-visuels-sets-79011-79012-79014/
Although this may be a poor quality image you can get an idea of the sets which IMO from what I can tell look really good :-D

Found this minifig information at http://www.neoape.com/lego-hobbit-2013-minifigure-info/#more-3287

    Dol Guldur Ambush (79011)
    Beorn
    Gunbadad Orcs (2x)

    Mirkwood Elf Army (79012)
    Thranduil
    Elves (3x)
    Orcs (2x)

    Lake Town Chase (79013)
    Bilbo
    Thorin
    Bard
    The Master of Lake Town
    Guardsman

    Dol Guldur Battle (79014)
    Gandalf
    Radagast
    The Necromancer
Azog – identical to SDCC 2013 version
    Gunbadad Orcs (2x)

I am really excited to get Thranduil. Hope he has his fabulous twiggy crown. Sounds like a new style orc for variety. Wonder if Beorn will be in his man or bear format? Hope the elves are in battle armor. If the Azog is exactly the same there is going to be some early buyer remorse.....

Looks like #79012 Thranduil has a new hair piece with the crown. The other elves look like ones we already have :( Thought that brown warg on the far left was Beorn in bear form at first. Wishful thinking. Overall the buildings look pretty good, harmonizing with the previous sets.
  • binaryeyebinaryeye Member Posts: 1,831
It's unfortunate The Necromancer doesn't look much like LOTR-style Sauron. Oh well. At least we get Radagast to complete the known Istari.

    Aah that is wonderful news.
    Thanks for the links!
Looks like the 'Mirkwood Elf Army' (79012) set also includes a brown warg. Very nice!

About time we saw some images for these sets :-)

And how weird is it that I mentioned brown wargs back in August on this thread - and lo and behold, there IS a brown warg in the Mirkwood Elf army set! (I must be some kind of person who can read into the future (not) :-P )

Time to start my 2014 spend planning! :-D
  • y2joshy2josh Member Posts: 1,996
I'm not clear on why they keep doing the 'army builder' style sets but including characters you don't really need multiples of...

Other than that, I'm pretty pleased with the minifig selection here. Now if I could just somehow get Eowyn and the Witch King to show up for no reason, I'd be completely content with the minifig side of the line.
  • kezkez Member Posts: 831
I'm really happy with what I can see, the ambush set and battle at dol goldur sets definitely connect together like the helms deep set does with the Uruk hai wall, you can see the image portraying both sets in the bottom middle of the largest sets box art which I am satisfyed with, the only worry for me is my budget will decrease and Ive ran out of display space lol :-D
  • klatu003klatu003 Member Posts: 729
@y2josh We need the equivalent to #9499 Gugan Sub in the LoTR world to get Eowyn.

It is probably too much to ask for, but an elk/moose Lego animal for Thranduil, in some future set to come, would be so awesome.

Minifigwise these sets are fantastic, even though the pictures are too small to make out all the details, I am very happy with Radagast and all the other new additions. Yet, there is still so much ground to cover with regard to all the Hobbit/LOTR characters which still need to be made into minifigs. Ever since I played the Lego LOTR video game I really hope to see all those characters from that game someday also appear in real Lego sets. And why not!? As with the superhero Lego, it is also what keeps Lego rolling out new and different sets from their factories, with an ever expanding universe of superheroes and villains. I want much more middle-earth turned into Lego.

    *keeps fingers crossed*

@TheBigLegoski - An elk/moose would be wonderful. They can even slip in in next year as part of the Christmas line. Elk are very Winter Village IMHO.

We are supposed/rumored to get "Lego the Movie" CMF line and "Simpsons" CMF line. How about a LoTR/Hobbit CMF line to fill in the rest of the characters if they don't want to release another LoTR set wave.

    Faramir
    Eowyn
    Witch King
    Denethor
    Dunedain Ranger
    Gondor Soldier *Army Builder*
    Merry in Rohan armor
    Pippin in Gondor armor
    Sauron
    Galadriel
    Celeborn
    Pukel-man
    Tom Bombadil
    Goldberry
    Barliman Butterbur
    Prince Imrahil

There sixteen (16) all selected for TLG with a range of types; noble, comic, male, female, short minifig, regular minifig. Army builders to drive extra buys. Honestly, TLG should just send me a big check right now for the idea. Better yet, they can just pay me in free figs ;-)

Yeah, so a new mold for an elk/moose, could also be used for the wintervillage, and other themes (city, castle, other 'adventure' themes).

A LOTR/Hobbit CMF series would be nice too. Love to see all the characters you mentioned in Lego form. But I am getting somewhat CMF weary. The last CMF line (series 11) is (to my knowledge) still not available in most regular Lego selling toyshops in The Netherlands, which is utterly preposterous! From what I heard they weren't going to release them at all in NL. I like the CMF's very much, but if only you could just buy the ones you really want instead of having to deal with these 'mystery' bags, and the fact that some (not seldom the not so desirable ones) are very numerous while others very rare. I much rather see TLC do something similar for the Hobbit/LOTR, they did with the Kingdoms line, namely: battle packs!
Check these out, and tell me that that is not a superb formula!
    #852921-1
    #852922-1
Or the ones they did for the preceding castle line:
    #852701-1
    #852702-1
(if for some reason the links don't work properly, just copy/paste the set-numbers in the search function on brickset.com itself.

Or else more sets like the Uruk-hai army set #9471
That is such a good army builder set, if you are in to that sort of thing.

I'm beginning to fear that the LOTR theme might end without a single Gondor soldier. (And without Eowyn, Witch King on his fell beast, balrog, etc.)

I hope that the rescheduling of the Hobbit movies gave them enough time to put together a 3rd wave. (Though if the theme is not a great seller then they might not bother.)
