Here I have a list of the upcoming Hobbit sets. As we know one of them is Lake Town Chase. See what you think. This was from a reliable source.

Very interesting, thanks. I'd be surprised not to see a set at £11.99, seems like most waves generally include something at this price point.

As @LostInTranslation said, an £11.99 set would presumably be included too. I very much like the sound of the others though (there must be a Witch King of Angmar Minifigure in one of those Dol Guldur sets surely?)

But there does seem to be a notable absentee here, Smaug? This could mean on of three things, either the list is not quite complete, LEGO have simply ignored the character altogether (surely not?) or Smaug will be included in a larger set, not Tower of Orthanc size, but a LEGO store exclusive nonetheless. Fingers crossed for the last one!

So we've seen the Lake Town Chase set (meh). Mirkwood Elf army should get some people excited, though how much of an army can they cram into £29.99 remains to be seen. Thanks for the info.

The mirkwood elf army set could be similar to the Uruk hai army set, a set that includes small builds and lots of figures, like a large battle pack.

The sets sound great and I will undoubtedly be buying a few of them

Here are my theories,Lego haven't gave anyone complete list yet,the £11.99 sets may be starting to get phased out. I do believe in Summer wave of StarWars there was no £11.99 battle pack set. Or maybe they couldn't depict a science from film that would be £11.99. The price range to sets is a bit different than some themes. Most expensive set is £69.99 when king goblin battle was £79.99. Is it possible that Smaug makes an appearance in battle? I just want Smaug model. Mirkwood Elf army should have some interesting variants.

On other sites (maybe here too) I saw the rumour that there are five upcoming sets. So one is missing. I reckon it is the £12.99 end.

Elf army should be interesting, hopefully there are variants in torso / heads / hair, not just in armour.

Star Wars battlepacks have always been released in the winter waves.

I'm hoping that this is an incomplete set list as think the £11.99 set would be ideal as both LOTR waves and Hobbit had great small sets..

We are still missing a number #79009 in between the new LOTR wave and those
listed above (Goblin King has already taken #79010), if Lego has listed them sequentially by price point excluding the store exclusives (which is a regular pattern) it would enable a £12.99 set to slot in there.

Does anyone else reckon that there is something lego hasn't yet shown us from the lake town chase as its called a chase, maybe smaug could be included in it, but lego might not show us that yet as It could be in their licensing agreement?
(Btw the price is pretty steep for what is there) :-D

There was 6 sets in the first Hobbit wave (albeit two of them depicted scenes from this year's movie), I could just as easily imagine them doing six for the second wave, I don't know (although this year's LotR only had 4, but those aren't based on a current movie like the Hobbit is). Maybe perhaps a 79015 could be in there too, perhaps maybe £100 and includes a Smaug dragon. I think we definitely need to see Smaug in some form or other, otherwise how will the Lego Hobbit trilogy be complete? Just one of my hopeful speculations there.

And I'm no Hobbit expert, so forgive my inherent ignorance, but in which of those sets could we possibly see an Azog? Well, why would Lego create an Azog mould and only use it 100 or so times?

Some more Wargs in new colours, like brown, would be great too, but I imagine the chance of that happening is incredibly slim.

Just my thoughts and some things I'd definitely like to see :-)

^ From what I've read, the final film is basically a giant battle. If Azog is in that battle then I'd guess we'll see him in a set depicting some of that.

I haven't followed rumors, so I don't know. But there are a lot of scenes left before that happens: Beorn's house, Mirkwood, Elves, Barrels, Lake-town, journey to the mountain, entering the mountain, meeting Smaug, etc., and various scenes at Dol Guldur. Given how the encounter with Shelob was treated in LOTR, I don't expect the battle with Smaug to happen until the early-to-mid third film.

He wasn't a character in the book, so it's hard to say. I'm sure he'll play a part in the finale of the Battle of Five Armies (third film), at least.

There should be wargs in the third film, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them appear in a future set.

*Spoiler alert*

All of the films so far seem to end with some form of battle and I'd be surprised if it's any different for the 2nd Hobbit film. I originally thought the 2nd film would end with them reaching the mountain, except Bilbo definately speaks to Smaug, so it can't end there. Also in the book at least there really isn't much action between the ending of the 1st film and this point, except the spider scene. A few encounters but nothing close to a full on fight.

I'm thinking the 2nd film will contain all mentioned by @binaryeye and will end with Smaug leaving the mountain and the fight with Lake Town. A nice large battle to end with. I then see the 3rd film starting with the aftermath, with the bulk of the movie focusing on the Battle of the 5 armies and then maybe an hour based on the return to the shire, plus finishing scenes. I'd imagine Peter Jackson will stick some stuff in to fill the gap between the last Hobbit film and the 1st LOTR film too.

As for Azog I'd imagine some sort of final showdown, he'll certainly be making an appearance.

I'd be deeply upset if they don't include Beorn in the films, he was a great character in the books.

So they will stick to the standard trilogy storyline...

1st film: Goodies on a quest to destroy baddies.
2nd film: Baddies make a come back.
3rd film: Goodies eventually win out.

He was on an early poster (in bear form) and an actor has been cast, so we'll just have to see whether he makes the final cut!

Excellent. My concern was that I saw Beorn and Tom Bombadil as very similar characters and Tom obviously got cut from the LOTR trilogy. However they'll have to stick as much in as possible to spread one book into three films so I can't see them cutting literally anything out.

I'll be curious to see what role Legolas will be playing as well. My memory isn't great but I don't remember him appearing in the Hobbit book.

If the set names in the first post are correct, I imagine the film will end with a battle at Dol Guldur.

Then again, given what liberties were taken in the first film, perhaps Azog, riding a sleigh pulled by wargs, will ambush the company as they arrive at the Lonely Mountain, kicking off a battle that ends with Tom Bombadil defeating a Balrog.

Seeing as the book is what, 300 pages long at most and they're making like 9 hours of film, then I'd be amazed if they have to cut something out.

LotR was slightly different because there was a whole lot more book to make film from. About 1500 pages in fact.

Effectively we're getting the same amount of film but only about 1/5th the book to cover. In this respect I was absolutely amazed they could even drag it out across three films in the first place to be honest.

So again I agree with what Gavin said, I wouldn't expect anything to be cut from the films at all unless Peter Jackson goes off on a tangent and just starts making up his own story in place of the book.

Sounds like Peter Jackson's movie two is going to make large of this throw away paragraph in The Hobbit to make the Dol Guldur segments.

Does look like Lego is passing on a Beorn house. It wouldn't be in movie three. Glad I've stocked up on some City bears. I can visualize a nice set with the animals serving dinner, maybe some Friends animals can stand in.

I'm all for an Elf Army! Hope as others said there is some variety. And no hoodies (like the polybag), we need elf ears!

I too also like CapnRex's idea, although the price points on the list are in UK currency, the dragon mountain set in the UK only costs £35, but I doubt smaug will be in that set anyway, also I think in one of the filming trailers of the DOS it shows Bard if I remember rightly being chased by humans (presumably the laketown guard), thats maybe why bilbo's wearing the one ring to hide and distract the guard, because by the armoury (other building) in the laketown chase set there appears to be a moving wall, this might knock down the barrel with fish in to distract the guard, although I could be wrong :-D

^ I would love an exclusive Smaug set, but I doubt it somehow. Probably a £40-£50 set entitled 'Smaug and his hoard' might be more likely with a Ninjago style dragon (although without the oriental styling).

^ Of course, there's still that possibility of a limited retail set with Smaug in as you describe it, being £40. I'm sort of thinking along the lines of how Barrel Escape was released, maybe. You know, £40, hard to find, not numbered sequentially with the other sets? Not sure if the Ninjago style would be entirely suited to Smaug, but maybe with a new dragon head mould? That might work.

Plus, speaking of the Castle dragon, quite funny how that came up, I distinctly remember seeing an eBay listing for one of those, and they'd put 'Smaug' in the title (true story). I somehow doubt Smaug would be bright red in the movie :-)

Having just watched the brotherhood workshop Lego hobbit trailer ( http://m.youtube.com/index?&desktop_uri=/#/home ) it got me excited for the next wave. Will we be getting any more info soon you think ? I'm dying to know what mini figs we are going to get.

I just don't see the demise of Smaug happening in the second film. I realize the trilogy includes more sources of conflict than the book (Azog and the Necromancer). But the plot is still largely centered on the journey of the company of dwarves to reclaim their treasure from the Lonely Mountain. If the conflict of that plot is essentially resolved before the third film, it won't provide much incentive for the casual movie-goer to see the third film.

Slaying Smaug is not the end of the book... the crescendo is "The battle of 5 armies".

I'm think they cut the movie when the hobbits reach the mountain. Adding Beorn, Mirkwood, Gollums chase, the dwarves captivity, Lake town and Dol Guldur... we got plenty of material for 3 hours "directors (slowmotion) cut"

@icey117 & @ binaryey. You've got me thinking about this. After Smaug is killed, there is no "movie action" until the Battle of the Five Armies. In the book we have Bilbo "faffing about" (a delightful phrase I just learned from Huw) brokering a peaceful resolution to the situation. Battle. Then Bilbo goes home. Depending how much Peter Jackson decides to make up, there won't be enough action material to fill the third movie if Smaug is slain in the second. Makes the set names posted for this wave make sense too. Looks like the #70403 dragon will have to stand in for Smaug until December 2014. Hope the Mirkwood Elf Army has some variety - Thranduil would be fabulous.

^Yeah, but at least the book was the same (apart from the scouring of the Shire). Don't get me wrong, I love both book and movie, but they both have four false endings each, and then seem to keep on going.

That's true, but this dragging work a lot better in a book than it does in a movie.

Also I remember reading somewhere that Jackson extended the story with the elves somewhat, added Legolas in the mix which was not in the book. It's probably going to be a big part of the second movie.

@klatu003 I read/heard that Jackson wanted to include much of the story between the two books. That story we find when we read the beginning of Lord of the Rings. It mainly is the chase of Gollum after he is forcefully released from the Mirkwood elves. It's really an interesting chase that includes Gandalf and Rangers tracking to and from Mordor, and which end when Gandalf reaches Hobbitton for Bilbos birthday, that's just before he figures out which ring it is. This tracking could be a great piece of movie too.

I am predicting the 2nd film will be Mirkwood > Lonely Mountain for the Dwarves and that the 3rd act will largely be the wizards driving the Necromancer/Sauron out of Dol Goldur and consist of add-in material only hinted at in the book. Then film 3 will open with act 1 being the Smaug battle, Act 2 is the set up for Act 3, at least an hour of mayhem in the battle of five armies.

@icey117 Yes, Jackson can take any amount of expository material from the books and make stuff up expand the story. So we have no idea until we see the movies. I loved the Rhosgobel Rabbits Sled, so I'm not hating on all his changes. [However in ROTK, Sam leaving Frodo was a terrible canard. He also bleyed Faramir's motives/character.]
Back on topic -agree that Lego Smaug will be in 2014.
@Bumblepants - great idea for wave 3, Five Army Battle packs.

@icey117 Great blog on LOTR making. Fun to see how it is done. Helps those of us who have not seen the films understand it a bit more because the LEGO sets are quite lovely. I did enjoy the book many years ago.

When looking at the sets this years set again I think we will not get Beorn and his house :-( That is rather sad. Unless he'll be included in the battle of 5 armies in a hopefully final wave.
