Would like to see the following 5 in the set: Zombie, Spartan, Elf, Forestman and Samurai Warrior.
My five choices would probably be the Spartan (my favorite Series 2 fig), the baseball player, the robot (my favorite Series 1 fig), the cheerleader and the skier. Suitable runners-up would include the elf and caveman.
Perhaps this is for people who missed on series 1-2; other than that, there isn't much of a point to re-release figures, especially now that they are showing up in the build-a-mini bin. I saw the cheerleader and clown at the Potomac Mills, VA store this past weekend.
Although the e-mail description seems to indicate a "mini-figure" set, I would much prefer a set built around a figure. If anything, they could wait until the interest in the CMF's dies down and then re-release them by theme (circus figures, ancient history figures, sports figures, etc)
I'm very curious as to the price too,its probably going to cost 15-20 like @bmwlego suggested. I think it should be 10 bucks though.
Vote for the Zombie!!!
And yeah, the Blacktron from series 3 is pretty cool. I wasn't too excited about him until I saw the Blacktron logo on his torso after I opened him up.
As for bests of the figures, I agree that it would be nice to have things from series 1 and 2 and 3, I guess, although I can still go to a store and get them no problem, that include implements that aren't used elsewhere. The cheerleader is a good shoe in, since I loved the pom pom idea, and I have a soft spot for cheerleaders. Despite her and the skateboarder from series 1 being included in a stupid calender set currently, I'd probably just rather have her, since the skateboarder from series 1 apppeared to be a lame addition, to me.
I've got dozens of series 2 figures. In fact, so many, that I'd be happy to never see one again. Series 2, outside of one or two figures, was kind of a crap shoot, in my opinion.
Series 3 has some really great figures I'd like to see more of. The baseball player, which I see a few other people liked here, too, is a favorite of mine from that series.
Honestly though, I still encounter series 1, 2, 3, and 4 at local Fred Meyer stores in the Portland area here, and though I'd really like to get my hands on a few more series 1 figures, they always end up being the same stupid ones: crash test dummy and the diver. I'd be a lot more interested in things going in the pack that i don't already have. Particularly, I'd be interested in seeing a Zombie, so I don't have to go out and pay Ebay prices for one, since I don't know anybody in the area willing to trade a zombie for a series 2 figure.
I'd be interested in seeing the following: Zombie, Cheerleader, Caveman, Forestman, Can't have too many Elves, although, again, I can just go to the store and still get them. I guess by the time this is released in 2012 though, series 3 will certainly be sold out.
I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a monster pack though, with zombie, vampire, witch, werewolf, and frankenstein monster included.
I don't mind them doing this as much as i did popping figs into that calendar, but i hope it's just a once-and-for all one time only thing which finally puts an end to all this mess of reissuing figs. Because in my opinion all this re-releasing of figs (either because people whined about missing out/they under-produced a winner) is completely in opposition to the whole idea of a collector series that when sold out is meant to be done - it spoils the chase. They might as well just release everything in a plain for all to see box, like everything else, if this is what they're going to be doing everytime a fan-favourite or some scarcity develops.
I've missed out on plenty of regular NON-collectable sets (as have many of us) but I don't see any cloud city boba's, bib fortuna's or greedo's being re-produced anywhere (which makes re-issuing of what is their only collectable series a real kick in the teeth).
Yes, it's tough if you wanted them and missed out, but that's an issue with (and part of the marketing) of any limited run high demand serialised product - it's part of the deal.
I guess creating hype doesn't sit well with Lego, when they realise they've produced too little of the actual product to match desire.
I really believe though that they're doing this purely from greed - they know that they could've sold a lot more, they now want to sell more, and are pretending it's market demand to excuse breaking their side of the 'this is a collectable set' deal... and sell more.
I'd much prefer them to 'play ball' though, and use all that feedback to introduce variations, than spoil the original collection (red cheerleader, baseball player for different team, etc).
One problem i see though is that bit about 'substitute for a runner up fig' - let's hope they don't ignore our votes in favour of another skateboarder filler!
well that's enough of a text block... ;o)
I kind of feel sorry for all the people who bought boxes and boxes with the intention of reselling, because moves like this dilute the value of these series. At this point, Lego should just strike "collectable" from the item description.
Instead of saying, "Vote, and we'll build a set based on the results", Lego should just fess up and say exactly what this poll means: We want to know which minifig you like best. Full stop. Lego will learn not only which are the top five, but how each of the 48 figures ranks in popularity.
I wish Lego would take the results from its poll, and instead of making what seems to be half-baked set somehow integrating the top five, take the time to design and produce a full line that beautifully presents the theme of the favourite(s), for ex., circus, roman era, monsterville, etc. Inspired by the collectable series, not diluting them in one-off sets.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/collectible
col·lect·i·ble also col·lect·a·ble (k-lkt-bl)
adj.
1. That can be collected: a collectible loan.
2. Worthy of being collected: collectible antique coins.
And I think it's only the short supply of series 1 and 2 that's really pushed their prices up. Rather than long term monetary value.
On that note, I'd expect to see the zombie and spartan appear in this set, possibly the cheerleader, the elf (with a standard bow...) and another female (or in all likelyhood - and skier/snowboarder or skater!!!!).
I have no idea how they will enforce it, but if they stand by their statement that this set will only be available to VIP members I would assume that means that it will only be possible to get them either [email protected], in a LEGO store or via an email offer.
Now if you think about the huge majority of buyers of CMF's I would assume that they are not bought in any of those channels, more from Argos/Tescos/Target etc...
So, in theory this shouldnt seriously impact on the amount of each in circulation..
Make sense?
Also, hypothetically, if a certain CMF is my favorite, why don't I own it already? How do I know it's my favorite if I don't own it?
Some of the CMFs are not that different from MFs in regular sets. I like the S1 Nurse (my wife is a physician), but I have a bunch of medical MFs from hospitals and ambulances and the like. Ninja, mummy, forestman, and diver, and other MFs have been done with slight differences in regular themes already (Ninjago, Pharaoh's Quest, Castle, Harbor).
So, I would buy a set with the zombie, elf, and spartan, even though I already have them. I must give a mention to Mr. Mariachi too, since no one else has!
I agree with the points made by others about this set making the CMFs less collectible in the sense of "worthy of being collected". If the top 5 set is more than USD $15, then they are being greedy. (Maybe an extra dollar for a fancy box rather than a polybag.) Re-releasing a collectible item is just wrong.
Its not my favourite, but its pretty good and it's one I've not been able to get hold of so I'd like to see it sold again. Please everyone vote for S1 stuff, the others are easy to get hold of!
Will I still buy the "exclusive" set when it's released? Probably :P
And Again I am pretty sure people are still misreading the notice.
Lego is making a 5 of 5 minifigs, not a set built around one of them.
Series 1 figures, besides their implements, were as follows:
Caveman
Cheerleader
Magician
Forestman
Super Wrestler
Indian
Nurse
Clown (this one has been available for build there for a while, and was posted previously, along with the forestman and magician)
With those figures avaialble for build already, the only reason I see a re-release of them as a decent idea is for their equipment. But if the equipment is no longer in production, which doesn't make sense since they could just pull the mold out again and start using it, they've got plenty of time, then I do question what they are going to use to replace things like pom poms, or the magician's magic wand, or on the offhand chance that they make something like the tennis player again, what they would use for her tennis racket. I could imagine them using one of the old snow shoes for the adventurer's series as a replacement tennis racket. It would be comical and stupid at the same time.
They said as well that they'll have all you mentioned above (all parts) available soon(the 10 outta' the first 16). But no set date. I asked about the Robot and they didn't rule it out. Makes it seems we'll see all Series 1 in the BAM station this year (I'm hopin').
sometimes they have all the parts to the minifigs but do not have them out or do not realize they are not in the bins, but have them
