There seems to be some speculation going on that this could very well be an official set for release in 2014, was apparently found in a book about the film.

Suddenly I feel 9 years old again...

FYI, you can buy just the toy to a happy meal, you don't have to buy the "food".

they look great, however the size of Metalbeards ship looks like itll put it in the $200 range if they make it.....it could just be for Movie scans.we'll see.

Mc D's promo starts 4th February apparently!

Is this UK only, or will it be in France?

I'm loving this theme more and more. So far not a single one I won't pick up.

Oh, I'm sorry. Did you think it was my son who wanted all of these sets? ;-)

What dont you like about them? The fact they the IP is owned solely by TLG, involves 2-in-1 builds with classic themes, or that they are pulled directly from the movie ?

Kids are going nuts for them. Obviously the sets aren't going to appeal to everyone. I am curious about future discounts though. I'm thinking these sets are going to be pretty popular and it might take awhile for prices to go down. But at some point they will be ready to clear them out.

I'm kind of feeling this way. I had a lot of hopes when we first saw the Super Cycle Chase at the show (I forget if it was Comicon or ToyFair or something else). Now, it seems like that may be the only set I pick up. I just can't get past the thrown-together randomness of the sets. Yes, I do realize that that is the point of them. That said, based on the trailers I will probably enjoy the heck out of the movie.

    Different strokes and all that...

I'm not into the sets at all. But there are some nice parts. If it makes sense, I'll buy the sets for the parts rather than for the builds. If not, I hope they have all the parts for sale online. After all, they own the license so hopefully they will sell them individually.

I am thinking about getting the Ice Cream Truck and then modding it into a modular ice cream parlor. Obviously a lot of other bits would need to be added but it would be a good launch point with that nice cone and all the treats included.

I'm just not exited by any of the builds.

Kids will love them but to me it's the sort of things they should be conjuring up themselves.

I'm going to go out on a limb that the ice cream can will do best in the long run.

All of the 2-in-1 sets are actually an amazing deal at even regular retail, when you consider the price per part. #70806 in particular gives you almost 200 more pieces than #70402 at the same price point.

^ This. I have been really impressed. These are the most pieces for the price in a very long time...and the builds are substantial. That's something to get excited about.

Brickbeard's Imperial Flagship sized pirate ship, Benny's classic space Ship, the two smallest sets, the castle set, and maybe Emmet's yellow mech are the ones I'd buy full retail. Overall, a great series. I was expecting Time Crusiers all over again. Great mini figs, great pieces, the only thing I don't like is the prices. Although you do get a lot of parts, sometimes it's not reflected in the overall size of the model.

^^^^ The Sea Cow: "Moooooove over, Imperial Flagship!"

This must be the biggest ship we've had to date, if we go by the piece count (nearly 1100 pieces more than even #10210, the previous biggest ship!)

BTW I wish we had a close up of Benny...though I think the Lego site does...I think Benny comes with a "broken" helmet that does not have a real crack but is sculpted to look like it does.
  • dannyrwwdannyrww Member Posts: 1,394
If you're a minifigure collector and want Vitruvious and Benny it looks like you are going to shell out some serious money....... given this set looks like it will be worth it....but other than those two and quessy kitty its a shame we get another Wyldstyle and Emmit...Quessey Kitty is the only unique one to this set...well and the scaled down metal beard but I like the regular metal beard better

I like the ship but looks a bit stubby. Is it just the angle?
  • BastaBasta Member Posts: 1,259
I like the piece count but the whole wacky nature of it's not really my thing.

I suppose there's not much chance of an alternate build with this one, one which makes a somewhat "normal" tall ship? I'd be real keen then. (I still may get this though).

yeah yeah I know it's lego... but still why? why not a long awaiting legend of POTC?

Yep, same as most LEGO boats and pirate ships.

I think this is a beautiful set. On one hand, it's a pirate ship — and those are few and far between in LEGO. But on the other hand, it's a pirate ship of a sort that we could never have gotten in a dedicated pirates theme! The science-fantasy elements, goofy proportions, and of course its captain combine to give it a very unique sort of charm. Plus Queasy Kitty, the double-decker couch, and probably a whole lot of other goodies hidden inside! I'm glad that they made a set of a design as ambitious as this one.

Don't want to be too negative but it looks like a waste of 2741 pieces. I love most of the other movie sets and their quirkiness but this is just quirkiness and 2700 pieces and that piece count is the best thing about the set. To be honest Im struggleing to see how they could have made a worse looking pirate ship with so many pieces.

I guess it's just not for me.

Whats even stranger is going by the model number its not an exclusive set, it has a higher piece count than most of the exclusive sets yet it isnt one?

i assume that are going to number all the movie sets in the same range and given that the film is aimed at a wider audience than existing lego fans i can't see them wanting to restrict the possible outlets of any set

and, cheshirecat, i think you are going to be in a very small minority

i can't wait for the ship and think it will look even better in real life
