So, this set image appeared on Reddit as an official reveal, but it is surely just a MOC, right? This would be a gargantuan set. The patchwork submarine:

I want this! TLG should have made this instead of the Seacow IMO, since this scene from the movie is more memorable.
True: but appeal to a larger audience and functionality favored the SeaCow. Don't be discouraged with the early success of the movie I am sure there will probably be more movie related sets coming if not this year next since they may have set all of this year's.

What other sets could they come out with? Many of the sets in the first wave weren't even integral parts of the movie.
At least Kenner made all of the major SW characters before they started making action figures of every character who got 2 seconds of screen time or were only in books.

I'm guessing the number of part recolors for that would have been a budget-buster.
    Also serious fragility problems

My guess is this is all the LEGO movies sets we are going to see.
I guess they could come out with others, but I think LEGO wanted to push their sets when the movie is in theaters. Same with most of the other licensed lines they have.
LoTR is an exception as Hobbit is out and many associate it with LoTR.
But PoTC, HP, and TLR all only had new lines come out with the movies, nothing after.

Just picked up 3 cups at my McDonalds. They are plastic type 7. Not something I or my child will be drinking out of. Way to go McDonalds! I figured after their past cup scares they would make sure to use something safe.

Woah, I think you should report that. I wanted to get one of these cups, but knowing that they could be toxic, I don't really want to take any chances.

From some reading on Wikipedia, it looks as though the health concern with resin type seven is that it includes polycarbonate, which is sometimes made using Bisphenol A (BPA). Some governments have outlawed BPA in baby bottles or other things produced for infants, but very few have outlawed its use for food containers intended for children over three years of age. In any case, it's not certain that these cups contain BPA, but it's something that some people should perhaps be cautious about, since there are lots of studies of the effects of BPA that are contradictory or inconclusive.

These cups might not necessarily be the harmful polycarbonate mess everyone expects it to be. Type 7 plastic is the miscellaneous used for designating any plastic produced after 1987. I wouldn't put it past LEGO to use polycarbonate for these cups as they were most likely Chinese origin, one could hope it's polylactic plastic which is a renewable and Eco-friendly plastic.

I hope its polylactic plastic but wouldn't risk it just to be safe.

I just saw a news article saying the plastic drinking bottle/cup thing was a media scare - something to the effect of you having to drink over 1000 bottles a day to pose any kind of health risk - the particles are so minute in quantity - even lower from a drinking cup that won't be in liquid contact for weeks on end. But then again, it seems it is not always safe to trust Chinese production methods.... which means everything sold in the US it seems.
That being said, I just thought I'd weigh in on the movie sets - they are some of my favorite sets in quite some time. They just seem weird and creative to me. My only complaint is in the CMF series. I picked up 16 (after I told myself I would never do this again, as I am the proud owner of over 1 billion series 10 police officers after trying unsuccessfully to complete that series) and once again doubles, triples.... never again...again.

I don't know if anyone has seen this yet but here is a nice video showing how the lego movie was made, there are also some clear pictures in the video of the sea cow set :D http://www.dailymotion.com/embed/video/x1ag239 (The close ups of the sea cow ship appear at about 1:45 into the video)

I beleive it was confirmed by another LEGO Employee that it will be £170.
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
^ and ^^^, that seems a pretty fair exchange rate considering Lego's usual standard, $1.47 : £1 if $250 and £170 are confirmed.

Doesn't £170 usually mean $200? That's what it was with the Simpsons house at least.
  • khmellymelkhmellymel Member Posts: 1,313
^ In normal Lego pricing (to be fair, it's not just Lego, it's a lot of durable consumer goods), yes. In actual exchange rate terms, no.
  • binaryeyebinaryeye Member Posts: 1,831
The Simpsons House is actually £180/$200. But market likely plays an important part in pricing. LEGO probably expects to sell more of that set in the US.
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,169
Simpsons house is £180/$200 - a raw deal in the exchange rate for the UK ($1.11:£1), and not much better for the Eurozone. They should pick an exchange rate and stick to it from one month to the next. Makes me think that their pricing is based on an analysis of what the market will bear from set to set based on geographical popularity (or perceived) of the subject matter.

@Dougout I think its going to sell great! Who wouldn't wan't to buy a 2,741 piece Steampunk-ish pirate ship for $250? Great price per piece ratio and a great looking set imo.

I will probably be among the first day buyers of the ship and the constructo-mech. I really think both of those are awesome builds related to the movie.

I don't know, it just doesn't wow me like most of the big sets do, maybe if there were close up pics and a video of it I could make a better decision.

I can't believe LEGO hasn't done a formal reveal with high reps pics yet for the Sea Cow.

I'm with @Dougout. I have a hard time seeing value in something that looks like a general mishmash to begin with. If this didn't have the movie tie-in (which will fade relatively quickly), I can't see most people desiring this. $200 (or $250, whatever) is quite a bit to drop on something so out there.

To draw a comparison, the Imperial Flagship was $180 msrp.

me. the max I was willing to shell out is if it would of been pounds and dollars being the same number($170).

I wouldn't either. It looks stupid as a regular rather than imagination ship. It is as tall as it is long. As a parts pack to build another ship maybe, but to me it is overpriced for parts.

@CCC yes, it may look a little weird, but overpriced for parts? Definitely not! :o)
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
I don't know, I'll wait and see what the parts are.
  • rancorbaitrancorbait Member Posts: 1,842
2,741 is what I've heard, that could be wrong though...
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
It's not the number that counts for me, it is what the parts are.

  • swind15swind15 Member Posts: 12
I'm in no way buying the Seacow, but it's pretty clear that this movie is an instant classic already, so any build coming from this movie will be desirable in the future. Especially if the Seacow will be in the sequels.
  • BJ21BJ21 Member Posts: 32
Sorry if this is old news, but in Argos this morning I noticed that the product description for 70807 Metalbeard's Duel appeared to be a description of the Seacow, which I hadn't seen before. (Sorry for the blurry picture)
