Bricklink isn't dead yet. Most of the PAB prices are high compared to BL. LEGO is good for bulk of uncommon parts or new parts, otherwise BL will still win for a while. Especially if you want the parts faster than 4-6 weeks.

I don’t see a decent amount of animals that were available before. They were in my cart when the site went down for this merge.

Saw the topic of VAT come up a couple of weeks ago and kept meaning to check. I looked at my receipts for my PaB and BnPs orders, going back a couple of years and they all have VAT charges. The orders ranged from less than $10 and up to $200. Just putting this out there in case anyone was wondering, so it isnt something new.

Never tried PAB before but I can see how it's going to draw alot more customers. Went thru all the animals just to see what was available, is there a way to save your favorites or compile a wishlist? Really don't want to have to go thru hundreds of pieces every time I'm thinking of making an order.

Looking at what’s labeled as a “best seller,” I’m inclined to believe these are parts that Billund had way too many of and they needed to offload them to Illinois to create more space.

Heck, if they want to spend a bit more to move them about 10-15 miles north, they can move them to my garage...

Right.... They'd instantly be "out of stock"...

Two of my BnP orders arrived today (yay). One of them had an extra bag of what I presume is someone else's order though only my order sheet was included. I contacted Customer Service by email to let them know as I'm too old to watch my life ebbing away while I'm on the phone. Some poor AFOL or probably Bricklink seller is missing 23 red squirrels, 10 red and 5 white kittens, and 11 Flame 4M w/3.2 holders.

Best sellers tend to be the basic palette of common parts that appear in many sets.

Finally was able to peruse the new site in US. I like it. I didn't think I would. But I like having the ability to go through everything by category like on PAB, which you couldn't do on BnP before. That helped really find a lot of pieces that weren't on my mind originally.

I don't love the increase in price on pretty much everything. The service fee won't matter since I always have a high enough order anyway. The only concern is if you really need something from both Best Seller and standard and then have 2 service fees where before you could order everything from BnP (standard) and call it good. So that will be the only struggle.

I heard back from Lego Customer Service about the extra bag of parts that were included in my BnP order. I get to keep all 23 red squirrels! Yay! Now they can join their 6 squirrel relatives frolicking in the trees in my Lego City. The 15 red and white kittens unfortunately have not yet found homes and are prowling around the city garbage cans.

That's nice they let you keep them. I've heard that a lot on this page and on Eurobricks. The last time I received someone else's pieces, I alerted LEGO and they sent me a postage paid envelope to mail them back to them...wasn't even an option for me to keep them. So looks like your experience is more positive than mine.
  • ryderfanryderfan Member Posts: 39
I believe it depends on the value of what you received by accident. One of my last orders included a bag of 200 brick yellow power shields. CS said I could keep them as it costs more to ship back than their worth.
  • Switchfoot55Switchfoot55 Member Posts: 3,276
Hmm...not finding a lot of parts that were previously on BnP.

In particular: Chopsticks (6361361), Sushi 1x1 Round Tile (6361438), Ox Lantern (63312377), Chinese Tiles (6331372/73/76/78), etc....

Is this the final version of the new site, or any word on things still being updated?

Nice to here some sort of confirmation that new pieces will become available to purchase within a specific time-frame.  I hope this is true.

Thanks for filling in those details, @NicksBricks! That will be useful to know moving forward.

...now my order that was ready moments before the system went down must wait another 1-2 months...

That certainly makes sense. I received 100 sand green tiles...I didn't find them to be that valuable, but I guess their customer service rep thought differently.
  • CymbelineCymbeline Member Posts: 554
Customer Service didn't even ask me what was in the bag that they sent by accident they just said to keep it. Too bad it wasn't 23 goats instead of red squirrels . . . sigh!

Sounds like when I was going to place an order for a house via Lego Factory, but it was discontinued literally the day I planned to place the order.

The representative told me that there was a new policy that novelty pieces would not be available to order until 3 months after the release to make sure they were stocked to be able to replace any broken or missing pieces.
That and it makes commercial sense to 'encourage/force' people to buy whole new sets if they want the latest pieces rather than just scooping them all up via bricks&pieces.

I just received my last "backlog" B&P order from the beginning of February.  I'm now all caught up on my orders from the good ol' glory days of B&P... lol

The changes made in policy to the new combined parts ordering site are definitely disheartening, but we shall see how it ends up going long term. The novel parts were always the draw for me.

^Very much agreed. I'm holding out hope that it'll still fall into place and work out. It's just a bummer to have been able to buy these parts for $.10-$.20/each just two weeks ago and now have them gone and be faced with much steeper prices on Bricklink. Wasn't LEGO trying to demonetize the evil after-market sellers or something along those lines?

No judgement passed yet. I shall wait patiently. We're only 8ish days from that 3 months mark on some of those new sets I've been picking through.

That was going to be my question. If it is 3 months from a set release (or in this special circumstance, is it 3 months from when the new system went live?). I guess I'll check back on some January sets to see if any are available in a few weeks.

The parts I inquired about were from a January release, so it's definitely been more than 90 days. I'm going to assume that was just a general placeholder and the mileage will vary based on popularity.
  • karritkarrit Member Posts: 907
By my calculations we are only 81 days into the new year so it definitely has not been more than 90 days since the official release of any January sets.  I wouldn't be expecting to see new parts from any of those sets to become available until some time after April 1st at the earliest.

'suppose'? :-) I do hope they don't do it in tranches. The worst case scenario is they group together all the sets from the first three months, then make the parts available on July 1st, then all the parts from April-June and have them included October 1st, etc etc. That would be pants.

I don’t care if I sound like a grumpy old git but it’s already pants !

I realise I have no patience but loads of the parts I bought in January from the January released sets have gone. I actually enjoyed sifting through set inventories to find parts I liked and ordering direct from Lego but it looks like that’ll stop. I’m not a big fan of Bricklink so I guess it’ll be hit and miss on Facebook sites from now on to source parts, especially all those lovely new animal molds :(

    Lego sucks, rant over !

P.S. I still love you Lego

After seeing both increased prices and parts being removed from the online system, Im glad I got most of my part buying, for at least half of the year, completed.

I doubt that there will be a hard and fast rule applied as to when parts appear. If there is, there will be complaints that such and such a part should be available when it isn't.

I also fully understand the price increases. When it was reasonably unknown, it was a great service for those that knew about it. You could buy parts in bulk not available in quantity elsewhere and exclusive/new parts where you didn't want the set. But as more people found out about it, it has slowed down terribly and they probably realise it does have an affect on sales, especially where exclusive parts (especially minifig parts) are sold reasonably cheaply. As more people know about it, there is larger demand and worse service, which will lead to more mistakes that need to be corrected at their cost and slower handling times which leads to inquiries that cost them money to answer.

In the "good old days" you could buy Dain's torso for 53p, short legs at 22p, a licensed head for 18p and then various beard / hair / helmet combinations for a quid or so. That is under £2 for a custom but licensed dwarf. You could do similar for elves depending on your choice of torso. When IDEAS Ghostbusters were out, you could buy complete figures for under a quid (they sold the torsos for 5p each!). Sabine Wren's helmet was 70p or so. That was not sustainable as more people knew about it. If they are going to have to devote more man-power to manually picking orders like a bricklink store then that has to be paid for.

^I wish I would have looked at licensed stuff more then. I was under the impression back then they didn't allow licensed sales so didn't even look them up. But I've been using Bricks and Pieces since 2012 or so. And yes otherwise a great unknown service. But it is super popular now, so that's how it goes.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
Yeah, loads of licensed stuff has slipped through over the years but normally not all the parts of a single figure. The 2015 Asajj Ventress was another memorable one, the whole figure was about £1.50. They did also have the train driver torso from the 2014 Inside Tour, back when this was rare and selling for £50 or more. But those orders got cancelled although since then loads have been found and sold to locals in Billund and hence the BL price has dropped.

I placed a big order on March 3 with separate carts in Pick a Brick and Bricks and Pieces. The PaB order came yesterday with the GWP, but it sounds like the BaP order will take a long time yet. I'm glad my apartment lease runs through the end of June, there's no way a BaP order will take four months, is there? But I better hold off on ordering a bunch of horses and soldiers to garrison 31120 until the first order comes and then probably wait until after I move, huh?
March 3 order shipped today, now we'll see when it is delivered.

Unfortunately, none of the parts I was after prior to the change have come back in stock. Kicking myself for not pushing the order through as it will end up costing me quite a bit in the end.

Jury is still out on the new setup, but it's definitely not leaning in a favorable direction...

That's the only good thing about orders taking so long right now. By the time they arrive, I have zero recollection of what I ordered so opening them is super exciting.

That happened to me with my last order a few months back because it took so long to get to me.  I was on a kick of taking classic 1980s sets that I always wanted as a kid, building them with current bricks, and ordering the pieces from BnP.  (Doors always required me to make some changes due to the change in height around 10 years ago.)  Anyway, I finally got the pieces for what I thought was a re-colored #560.  I started building it and was getting upset that Lego apparently forgot a few bricks.  Then I looked at the order sheet and saw I didn't order them.  After noticing a few bricks that clearly didn't belong to #560, I realized these weren't actually the pieces for that set...it was for my updated #6365.  Oops!

Just checked the BnP/PaB sit last night. I was marveling at how much was 'out of stock' right now.
