Maybe I'm just envious, but you seem to have a permanent sale...

Found 2 Cargo Trains in local store, also got 2 7599 Garbage Trucks for 24 each after 25% off clearance and BOGO.

That's how you do it teal93mr2! Stack the sales to get the best possible offer!

For some reason or another there is quite often a sale here in America. I for one do not ever pay full price for any non essential item so the sales actually get me to shop!

That garbage truck really is a great set... I'm trying to decide if I need more than the one I already have...

The Yellow one. I definitely would have gotten the Red one, as that one and the Maersk are the only trains out right now that I do not have.

I went to my local TRU tonight looking to get a couple of the Jet Skis since they are a City set which is included in the BOGO sale. The girl rang up my purchase and gave me a total of $8 plus some change so I pointed out to her that they should have been less with the sale. She tells me that the ad states 'construction sets' which are the ones in boxes. She said that it was a 'corporate thing' and couldn't adjust it without getting in big trouble. I was half tempted to ask for a manager but I thought the 4-5 people in line behind me wouldn't appreciate it. I did not buy them on principle which was painful considering they had them behind the counter and told me they were the last two in the store. Anyone else heard of such a policy?

    No. I smell BS.

@jagdjh: The same thing happened to me a while ago when I was buying the Skeleton Chopper. You were supposed to get a free Ninjago card with ANY Ninjago purchase, but they fed me the same BS that they fed you: Polybags do not count as "Construction Sets". That was the first time I experienced that, but I have heard of other people getting around it. I guess it all really depends on how militant the cashier is.

I tried to buy green base plates and had the same problem, though I could see how they don't meet the definition of construction sets.

When TRU had the buy a Toy Story Construction set and get the Alien Ship poly bag, the manager explained to me the Green Army Men set was not a Toy Story Construction set... I simply came back the next day and had customer service reimburse the 3.99 :)

The baseplates wouldn't qualify as they're considered "Bricks and More." I am surprised, however, that none of the qualifying polybags seem to be registering the promotion online. Not only that, the Lego City Traveler (which isn't even a polybag) also doesn't seem to register the promotion. This is definitely something to keep an eye on for their sales going forward...

The registers at TRU are on some kind of automated update for sales. The sales are determined by LEGO and the cashier really has no control over what rings up as part of a BOGO and what doesn't. I've had several long conversations with TRU workers trying to understand how the whole process of BOGO sales work.

We went to one store that didn't even know they were have a sale! My wife and I filled up two carts and headed to the register. My wife asked if the sale was starting today and the cashier said "there is no sale on LEGO". We had to get the manager involved who called another TRU to see if they were having a sale. This whole process took about half an hour. In the end she just tried to ring up 2 of the same sets and sure enough they came up on sale.

I have always used the price check scanner (distributed throughout the stores) to verify these kind of sales and Kmart, Target, and TRU.

At TRU, I know that if you scan a product that qualifies for BOGO or another promotion, it will be displayed on the viewscreen. This is how I figured out that baseplates were eligible for the last TRU BOGO sale even though I wouldn't have considered them to be "construction sets."

If the machine approves it, it's good. If not, good luck!

But, the price checker isn't linked to the same system - or wasn't at one time: We scanned the Ferrari (I think it was), and it scanned at a price that was within DS's price range. When we got to the register, it rang up for ~$20 more. We complained, and the lower price was honored.

    Very interesting....

This is how you may still get the free Creator Lighthouse from last month (I tried it this week) - and still for free.
Most of the TRU stores now have a pile of the Creator Lighthouse that was supposed to be free in last month's BOGO sale, probably just dumped in a pile on a shelf in the LEGO section. Most stores didn't get them on time, if you recall, and so they gave out this poor Hero Factory promo pack (zero bricks!) I took the HF pack back with my receipts and asked if I could exchange them for the Lighthouses and they let me (the HF packs show as more expensive, which probably helped). So if you have those useless Hero packs from last month, go give it a shot. I got three.
