The interior detail is amazing including a (I assume printed) round 1x1 tile for the thermometer, simply astonishing attention to detail when compared to recent efforts in the line.

Simply amazing and a must have. Stop making me spend money LEGO!

Definitely bucks the "Square Building Syndrome." I can't figure out what those dark blue pieces are on the rear windows, in the middle. Are they curved or is it just the light?

Great question! Looking at the side profile of the roof in this picture, most of the roof is made up of 1x3 and 1x4 curved slopes without studs and 1x1 tiles. I don't believe there is yet a 2x2 curved slope, but at 2:26 in the video, Jamie points to that area of the roof when mentioning the dark blue slopes and "bow slopes". However, he doesn't specifically mention it as a new piece in the set.

It's a stunning set, it really is. Very easy on the eyes and the interior is just fantastic, I love the details. The question that comes to my mind, though, is whether another building can be added to it without ruining the look of the balcony.

I'm making my way through the modular backlog - have the GE and FB so far, and must pick up the PS soon - the fact that it doesn't feature alongside the PC and TH in the description and box art doesn't fill me with confidence that I have too much longer to get it.

First Impressions on the Parisian Restaurant:
    Pros:
    -Display Value
    -Modular Buildings
    -Designed by Jamie Berard :)
    -Paris, France
    -Artist Studio
    -Ratatouille
    -Pavement is filled with details
    -New layout
    -Colour Scheme
    -Full interior with furnished flooring
    -Not a repetitive build
    -Printed Elements
    Cons:
    -Price should have been £120
  • LegoboyLegoboy Member Posts: 8,826
@Adzbadboy - How is it over priced? It's already cheaper per brick than other the last four modulars - the fourth being released 3.5 - 4 years ago!?

@Legoboy, I was expecting it to be £120 before the official unveiling but doesn't matter anyway, it looks as Lego is adding on extra money to these sets since the VIP program started.

This set is screaming to FB and GE: Retireeeee... due to the level of detail and quality of the build. Still love the older modulars and want to have them all.

    Something has to retire eventually...

No I need FB and GE to stay untill the end of 2014!
  • CircleKCircleK Member Posts: 1,055
^ I really wouldn't count on FB staying until the end of 2014. The writing is on the wall for that one and pretty much everyone agrees it will be history by the end of the year. I would grab it now if you want it.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see FB, GE, and PS all go in one fell swoop. Not saying I expect that... Just that I wouldn't be surprised. I do *expect* FB to go this year though.
  • coolpixcoolpix Member Posts: 357
I have FB already, but will get GE and PS for my birthday on 10/15 seizing double points and the free holiday set. Too many modulars out to risk waiting any longer.

I am really struggling with GE b/c I honestly don't like it. It doesn't appeal to me at all. The collector in me wants a complete collection though, so I'm constantly trying to convince myself to just go ahead on it.

I'm trying really hard not to be a completionist when it comes to the modulars though. Otherwise, I will end up with a GE that I hate, A CC that I have to BL or over pay for, and a TH and PC that I kind of like but don't really want. The GG and this new one (can we just call it PR yet?) are the only ones I really love, with FB and PS getting honorable mentions.
  • coolpixcoolpix Member Posts: 357
@CircleK Just get what you like. That is how I do. I know I will never have CC or GG so I just stick with what I like from the modulars, which are all of them but the Cinema that did not impressed me much. I did not liked FB before I bought but felt in love with it during the build, so you must take that into consideration too.
  • CircleKCircleK Member Posts: 1,055
^ That's what I'm doing for now... We'll see how strong my resolve is once I start seeing the "Retiring Soon" labels showing up. Then again, the lack of discounts on exclusives now should make it easier to just pass on anything that I'm not completely drooling over.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,764
I dunno the hoopla people have with getting things early. It is still the same price and will be when it is released. Now if they dropped it 10 bucks with the early release then I would be interested.
It is bad enough it will be very unlikely to see these on sale anymore, so that 160 does hurt a bit.
If anything I'll wait until the spring when I can get one with VIP Double points.

^ Are you standing on your head? I'm not sure you're listing them in the right order.

Two of them are unlikely to be around when you are hoping to pick them up.

Very nice model and good interior details. This is a "must have it" model for me.

@Legoboy, I will try to get them as soon as I can but that is all a can do as I don't earn and my parents pay for my Lego, if they get discontinued that's it. I cannot fork out £233 in one go. So I hope they do stay for a while.

That Parisian Restaurant #10243 is the best modular in my opinion and I cannot resist to wait. I will get it the first day it is released to Lego VIPs!

@coolpix Interesting quotes you picked out there. I'm thinking that this set must have been designed and in the production stream by July. So either our posters here have "little birds" or are just very intuitive in all things Lego ;-)

I'm not going to get into the ridiculousness of this post, or your thought pattern, but I did have a question. Why don't you earn? There are many ways to earn, at any age. Try it, it makes you feel really good about the things you do spend money on.

Right Adz, FB will be long gone by March next year, so get it as soon as you can. GE will be gone by Oct 14 (and maybe PS too - I just have a feeling), so get that in March next year if it's still around. Then get PR in Oct next year, because that won't be going anywhere.

The other thing I'd say is don't click 'like' on this post and then ignore it. Summon some willpower and resist PR for a year until you've got the others. Either that or don't moan when both FB and GE go end-of-line before you've bought them.

Clearly he is young, how young we don't know, but we really don't need to make this personal, nor tell other members how much money they should or should not earn.

Lets keep it about the LEGO and not about people's personal lives, yes?

Yes. There may be a completely valid reason why he doesn't have an income, regardless - it's none of our business. Several of us pointed out the error in his logic regarding the order at which he was obtaining the modulars and that's where our place begins and ends.

Back to the PR. Who else bought a couple of S9 waiters in anticipation of this release? I even BL'ed a S2 Mime so he could entertain the outside diners.

I agree about personal stuff, and earnings, whatever. You're homeless? Awesome. You like goats? More power to you. But, when you are the one to bring such things directly into a discussion, as part of your debate defense, sorry, it's fair game. My particular point is that if you feel stifled by your finances, go mow some lawns and buy em all.

But isn't there an age limit for those posting in the forum?

I will say that unless you are working full time with a decent salary, you are likely not running around buying Mods. Additionally, now that they will likely not be found on sale it will be harder to get your hands on one for a good price, another casualty of the new LEGO policy.
I would say if you can get the FB now, because if you even think you want it, you better get it now or risk it being more expensive once it is EOL from LEGO (which sounds like most signs pointing to Dec this year)
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ Honestly though at this point FB will probably be the easiest (cheapest) to get after EOL since there are probably so many out there waiting to be resold.
  • CircleKCircleK Member Posts: 1,055
A while back, @LegoFanTexas was selling FB's for $130 shipped (US). If I still needed one that's where I would go. Who says you can't find discounts on exclusives anymore?!

So, I may hold off on buying this new one for about 5 years and then hit him up :)

    It is 150 right now.
I seriously doubt it is going to be cheaper than 150 USD when it is EOL. Since eBay is going to eat 15-20% I am guessing most are going to be listing for 175-200 at least and lord knows what sellers on Amazon are going to list for. I would not be surprised for it to hit near or 200 shortly after EOL on eBay. Even if it is 150-175, it will still be more beneficial buying it during double points and free shipping at LEGO.com (nevermind if you get that figure and the holiday set in the US you can sell those to 'discount' the set), than trying to get it on eBay for 150 plus shipping (which will likely not be free either, but around 20 dollars for a decently shipped item).

So, sure you can wait, but if money is already hard to come by for someone I think they are really rolling the dice to assume it will be this price forever.

Be careful. I waited the last minute to get the Maersk Train last year, was caught on a bad financial moment, and ended up loosing the opportunity to get that one, and it was on the top of my list after the Modulars.

To be honest, the lack of discounts on these was kinda of liberating to me. Now I know that "double points season" is the best time to get these, so no need to wait for Brick Friday, or the last minute before it EOLs to see if it gets clearance discounts, or even December 26th sale... I will just get what I like and my budget permits during these times. I am not a reseller (unfortunately, because I'd like to have the time and budget to be one), so one or two exclusive sets with no discounts will not hurt much. Trying to get them after they EOL, THAT would be a disaster, specially after they were available for such a long time.

Wasn't it? I began reading the thread from the beginning and could not believe. I believe the reason leans more towards the side of the posters intuition, or maybe a stream of consciousness caused by the "American in Paris" movie, but since I have not seen the movie, I can't tell for sure. Maybe the designer inspired himself on that very same movie.

If you remove the 'awesome' from being homeless and leave those poor goats alone, then I totally agree with you @tensor. Especially considering the fact that most teenagers living at home with their parents footing the bills would have a nice chunk of change to buy Lego with if they had just a modest part time job. When I was 15 I did babysitting on the weekends and I had more money than I knew what to do with. (Didn't know about Lego back then. :) )

Argh. Saw it in person at BrickCon. It's too awesome. I've been resisting buying any modulars but now I'm feeling powerful urges to grab the ones that are still widely available. Will work very hard to put out of my mind any thought of Bricklinking a CC.

Bad LEGO. Stop making great sets.

Yes, I wouldn't ascribe any of it to "little birds", being psychic, or the Lego designers taking ideas from here and would put it entirely down to the fact that like pretty much everyone else here, Lego designers are people, people who are bathed in the exact same western popular culture as everyone else in the west and so develop the same preconceived notions as to what a thing looks like.

Likely the guy that designed it has seen the same films and pictures as everyone else here that described what they think it would be like.

Yet another set where they throw away perfectly good food. We need some proper lego rubbish. Maybe fish bones since fish often seem to end up in the bins.

I believe you are right, it is a new 2x2 bow, joining the family of 11477 and 88930. Someone pointed out it seems to appear in tan also - the back of the chair in the apartment.

That seems to be correct, those aren't 1x2 bows.

This is a gorgeous set. It needs it though as it's quite a bit smaller than FB, GE and PS for the same price point. Despite this I'm sold. I'm sure I'll get it eventually in a few years.:D
