I heard from my Wal-mart lady that it should be towards the end of this month. They are already getting things ready.

Last time I went to Walmart there were sections of lego that did look like they were clearing off room.

It wouldn't matter what my WM is doing with their layouts. They could pile all of the old sets in the middle of the parking lot and they would still be marked at full RRP!!! It drives me nuts!

My Walmart started red tagging some sets but what is funny is that the red tags still have the full retail price. I hope ppl aren't falling for it.

I have two walmarts in my town. One Walmart never marks down anything and them the other marks down twice a year. Doesn't make much sense.

When they are not already gone..
My guess is my area has employees that are AFOLs, or tell those when items are being marked on Clearance because either I see all available for RRP or they are long gone.

I have four Walmarts in the immediate 20 mi radius. One discounts EVERYTHING on a whim, One has all the stock and never discounts, One is the fairest of the bunch, and the last One is like gambling. That last one, you have to take any interested set to the scanner to see if there is any markdown. The employees never tag it.

It's defiantly a "YMMV" case. I've heard of people already finding uber good sales but zippo around me. There's 4 walmarts around us varying from a 20 minute drive to about 50 minutes(pending traffic) but the only lego clearance was either stuff that's been stuck at the same clearance price for over 3-4 weeks now, was random full price lego stuff stuck there, or it's just started on the clearance circuit.

My experience is that Walmart stores in small towns clearance Lego more often than large metro areas.

I just want to see set 4429 go on clearance. That set is not moving at all.
  • PoochyPoochy Member Posts: 479
^ Yep, that one and #60008.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I agree with the #4429 . I see stacks of them but they never seem to go on sale.
  • ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
No indications around my area yet but I haven't been able to talk to the toy dept manager at one of them yet.

I asked mine and got a vague "end of the summer" which in Arizona feels like will never come. I've got my eye on the 40 or so weathertop sets to complete my ringwraiths.
  • ecmo47ecmo47 Member Posts: 2,101
^ I picked up my stack of Weathertops in Jan. Hoping for Batman sets.

I looked back at last years records at it looks like my local stores started around 1 Aug.

That means it's overstock. I keep hoping for 50% sales, but all I've found in the last few months are a handful of 20-30% Monster Fighters and Friends. Come onnnnnnnn 50% off!

WM is airing "Clearance Event" commercials on the tv in my area.

I found a huge stack of #79003 An Unexpected Gathering marked down to $40 this weekend.

Visited one store that had red-tagged a few sets but I would not call it the classic clearence for shelf-reset. One set was Hulk Breakout which was $35.00. Other sets were red-tagged but still MSRP?!
  • legogallegogal Member Posts: 754
Have not seen any decent markdowns at nearby WM this past year. Clearance areas must have mostly overstock because it is full price when I have it scanned at checkout. If it is full price, will purchase only from our LEGO store. Not a fan of WM anyway and only browse there about once a month after visiting our bank next door.

Just traveled from NC to Alabama, traveling through Atlanta. Checked many Walmarts and found no clearance Lego. Attack on Weathertop, at full price, now has a sticker on the boxes that ask you to call WalMart if you find the item at "any other location" than WalMart. Hmm... They're smart to get the most they can from their merchandise, but dumb not to carry the new Lego lines. While holding fast to their Weathertops, at full price, they don't have room to offer the new City or Castle sets. They've got no Friends price-reductions at all, even though a new Friends wave is coming soon, and they have nowhere to put any of it. Of course they have no room to carry the new Star Wars sets. Something's gotta give!

With comic con prices going crazy. This is all I have to look forward to. I still haven't seen anything yet,

The only thing I've noticed in my primary Wal-mart is that there is now a cardboard Lego display near the actual Lego aisle that holds Castle, GS, TLR, and City sets.

Even a random sampling of sets mentioned in this thread shows no discounts as yet.

My main store has #79010 (LOTR Goblin King Battle) on sale for $90.00. This was the only set and just 10% off is new. Hoping this not a harbinger of future sales!

I saw all of the Superman sets red tagged, but at full price, in one Walmart yesterday. They also had a couple of the Hobbit sets red tagged as well, but again at full price. Hopefully this is an indication of what is being taken off the shelves with the upcoming reset and they will soon be discounted.

I know a guy who works there that I have been bugging, he sent me a text saying some sets just went on rollback, but not on clearance. You think this is a good sign that stuff is about to go down. I will check tonight to see what sets, and how much.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I havent seen anything that says a sale is about to happen. I wish it would but I'm also glad it hasnt happened yet and I'm not sure my LEGO fund could survive it going on at the sametime as Targets clearance.
  • DoubleDDoubleD Member Posts: 488
That is funny cause sdcc was disappointing and my targets don't have anything really on clearance. So I have a full lego fund killing me to be spent on some sales.

I was at a WM a couple of hours away from where I live(visiting grandma) and she's got a smaller WM near here and they had already moved/rearranged a 1/2 of their toy aisles. Not sure when...but about 15-20 Lego sets were reg-tagged at full-price. Not sure on the larger sets...like I said...it's a smaller WM so they don't get the over $100 stuff and the aisles they moved the Legos too was too small so all of their $79-$99 Legos were on a shelve along the wall un-priced. This WM didn't carry Lone Ranger. Here's a portion of what I saw red-tagged:

    Ninjago #70504 Garmatron
    Ninjago #9447 Lasha's Bite Cycle
Super Heroes #76003 Battle of Smallville
    City #4201 Loader and Tipper
    City #4203 Excavator Transporter
    City #4427 Fire ATV
    City #60001 Fire Chief Car
    City #60003 Fire Emergency
    City #60004 Fire Station
    City #60007 High Speed Chase
    City #60016 Tanker Truck
    City #60018 Cement Truck
    Chima #70003 Eris' Eagle Interceptor
    Chima #70005 Lavals Royal Fighter

Thanks for your post. Just FYI; it seems a red tag used to mean that a clearance price was imminent, but not any more. Now it just means they won't be ordering any more, and even that is just "probably". The WalMarts in my area in NC have had Gandalf Arrives and Weathertop red-tagged for over 2 months, but they're still at full price with no price reduction. Makes me wonder whether the traditional after-Christmas markdowns at WalMart will even be the same this year. Shifting terrain...

The guy I know who works at Walmart said legos at his store should go on sale tomorrow in the afternoon. I will post more if they do
  • galahad2309galahad2309 Member Posts: 33
One guy just cleared out every single set that got marked down at my local Walmart. I walked up with my son to the toy section just as he was leaving with at least $500 worth of sets. (After markdown). I just wanted 1 Unexpected Gathering set but missed snagging one by 5 minutes...

^ That sucks. Well, you can get one later from that person on eBay! :-) Just joking. I feel your pain, I rarely find anything at a good mark down at any of the WM's in my area.
  • galahad2309galahad2309 Member Posts: 33
Hopefully Target will mark down that set soon and I'll still get a chance to get a deal.

The guy must have been a reselller. What does a person need 8 Unexpected Gatherings for at $49 per set? It's not even that great a price considering Walmart online is only $5 more.
  • DoubleDDoubleD Member Posts: 488
    Was everything mark on clearance
  • galahad2309galahad2309 Member Posts: 33
Mostly. Everything that was gone had a new shelf tag price so they were recently marked down. I bought an Old Republic fighter that wasn't properly marked down. That was about the only thing the guy left on the shelves.

@galahad2309 Have patience. One day he'll liquidate his hoard like this guy:

So has anyone compiled a list of what is on sale yet?

Unfortunately these sales are tied to:
    The region
    The individual store
    The management within that store
The pricing team in that store

No such list is possible except on a per-store basis.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
For the after Christmas sale there were certain sets that were on sale on a national level with each store having other sets added.
  • DoubleDDoubleD Member Posts: 488
Only one of three stores so far, they had all of the hobbit stuff on sale, but I really didnt look much at prices. I did see an unexpected gathering for 49

I guess I'll be making the rounds after work tomorrow.

What I remember off hand at mine was

    Unexpected gathering $49
    Goblin king $69
    Mirkwood spiders $21
Attack of wargs $35 (i think)
The geonosis, droid escape and desert skiff sets were all $13
Republic striker (dark red SW ship) was $25
2 or 3 of the spongebob ones on sale
The small yellow creator indy car was $11
The big tank thing with treads, red tank thing with rubber treads and the samauri mech of Ninjago were all on sale. Don't remember prices.
    The #9488 and #9489 were $9.
    #9471 Uruk-hai was $21.
