I was there with 2 other members of I LUG NY, and I know there were several other bricksetters who passed through sooner or later. I went Saturday to volunteer with the Master Builder event and help Dan build the Incredible Hulk! Spent a long day teaching kids of all ages to build big bricks out of little bricks and had a great time. I'll be doing more of the same with a lot more of I LUG NY this weekend at the Westchester store opening =-)

how long did the store opening sets last??
  • murphquakemurphquake Member Posts: 651
@bluedragon I was downstairs at the model build for the whole day, so i couldn't say for sure, but some ppl seemed to think they still had some at about noon (opened at 10)... I think now that they're not $200 on ebay/bl anymore the huge rush to get them is down, plus the buy-ins for the promos went up. Westchester opening is tomorrow, i'd imagine the shirts last a lot longer than the sets? We'll see

thanks @murphquake. I'd like one but won't be able to get to Westchester before 12ish. I guess I'll know tomorrow!

@clickdastardly @murphquake or anyone who has been to a recent grand opening, could you please comment on the timing of the promotions:

"During the grand opening celebration, be one of the first 300 people each day to make a qualifying purchase at the LEGO Store and you will receive one of these exclusive giveaways:

    • Friday: FREE Collectible LEGO T-Shirt with a $50 Purchase!

    • Saturday: FREE Limited-Edition LEGO Store Set with a $75 Purchase!

    • Sunday: Free Exclusive LEGO Minifigure Set with a $50 Purchase!"

It sounds like you are not able to get the Minifigure Set at the Westchester Grand Opening UNTIL Sunday, June 30th

Do they enforce that or are all 3 items available each day and the Minifigure set will be gone today? Thanks!

I just been to one if you want a store set better get there early in Saturday, the mini figure didnt seem as busy on Sunday

@legogregors you're correct, each of the 3 days there is only 1 of the promotional items available. Today westchester will have t-shirts, tomorrow store sets, sunday minifig sets. I'll be there all weekend, on metro north heading up now actually. Look for a guy with a green classic space logo button! -bill

Big fun in White Plains today! This was my first grand opening but I was impressed. I was surprised by a couple things but everything was very smooth and relaxed.

^1. The turnout, I arrived a little after 9am and was still 5th in line. When they opened the doors at 11am there were not more than 50 people in line.

    2. I thought 5th in line and 1st transaction would get a very low numbered minifigure set but they seemed to be random or possibly highest first. They were marked as 100th Lego Store which was nice and there were 400.

    3. One of the promotional items was a TC-14 from last year with $75 purchase but there was also a duplo R2D2 brick and at least 3 colors of 100th Store bricks!

    4. That it was not a complete madhouse, everything was quite orderly.

    5. I never enjoy paying to park to go shopping but that has nothing to do with the Grand Opening!

Have others had similar experiences, this was my first.

@legogregors, just that it was awesome. When I got there Sunday morning they asked me to work on the stage building with Master Builder Steve, so that was pretty sweet. I got to cap the 4' Artoo with one of the store staff since we finished it, and we also built the top for the 8' one and passed it up to Steve to place, at which point they shot confetti streamers all over us, it was a lot of fun. I'll put pictures up on flickr later.

@legogregors if you were sitting outside the store at 1030 or so you saw me walk in... after that i was on the stage helping build the double and quadruple size brick based R2-D2s until lunch. I got set #347, I'm pretty sure they just hand whichever one is closest, and they get shuffled around when they put them out and stage them for the customers.

@murphquake have you loaded the pictures somewhere? That is terrific that you got to do so much with the build! I must have seen you Sunday morning.
